Information / Review English
GUTTER: The Cursed is a post-apocalyptic game developed by Asocial Guarantee.
Gameplay / Story
Have you always wanted to do whatever you want without having consequences for your actions? Then you should definitely read on and get to know the city of Gutter. Murderers, trade, slavery, human trafficking, attacks, different nations from all over the world, mafia, greased police are part of everyday life here and no one cares or cares about it. The game has a lot of dark humor and sarcasm. As an example: being locked in a room and surrounded by numerous traps is part of everyday life in Gutter. People watch you fight for your life, make bets on how long you can last and laugh. That's the reality in this game. You come into the city without thinking anything bad, the people are friendly, greet you, you barely turn around and you already have a knife in your back. Tensions rise as multiple factions of humans, demons and machines vie for control to rebuild society, but with evil intentions in mind. It's best to get your own idea of this horrible game, in the spirit of the game (sarcasm sends its regards).
Pro
+ disturbing aspects + gloomy scenario + matching/dark graphic style + scary music + good controls + suitable price/performance ratio + Achievements
Contra
- I find it sometimes too disturbing
Conclusion
GUTTER: The Cursed offers you a disturbing game that is convincing in all aspects. If you want to experience something new, definitely grab it.

Information / Review Deutsch
Pro
+ verstörende Aspekte + düsteres Szenario + passender/dunkler Grafikstil + schaurige Musik + gute Steuerung + passendes Preis/Leistungsverhältnis + Errungenschaften
Kontra
- finde es teils zu verstörend
Fazit
GUTTER: The Cursed bietet dir ein verstörendes Spiel, welches in allen Aspekten überzeugen kann. Wer mal was neues erleben möchte, unbedingt zugreifen. My Playtime: 12.6h (100% achievement, finished the game with all endings) Grindy Achievement(s): No. Optional Achievement(s): Yes (17 achievements, most of them are missable, some require backup saves). Difficult Achievement(s): No.
Intro
GUTTER: The Cursed is a game that is focused on exploration. It doesn't have an actual plot or objectives; you just need to explore everything at your own leisure to find the endings. You are free to do anything you want, including killing everyone for no reason. Pros: - 5 endings - A lot of quests to finish - Freedom to explore and finish quests in any order that you want Cons: - Enemies have too much HP - MP restorative items are scarce and money is limited Specs Intel Core i5-9300H 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
Should you buy this game?
Yes. If you enjoy quest-heavy games that offer a lot of freedom in your choices, feel free to buy this game.

In-Depth Review

Visuals
The game is very lazy with the maps. Most areas look the same with slight altercations. The game uses custom assets, but some default RTP assets are also mixed in, and they don't look well together most of the time. That being said, the areas in the game aesthetically look like a dump, which portrays exactly what the game wants it to be.
Story
If you are playing this game to find an in-depth story, you'll be disappointed. Dialogues in GUTTER: The Cursed mostly revolves around finishing quests, which will let you get an idea of the situation of the city. There are conflicts between gangs, addicts with their issues, prostitutes, killings, and many others - everything is normal here. You can find some stories about what is happening in this town, but that's not what the game is about.
The Game
Gameplay The game is focused on exploration. You somehow end up in Gutter, a place where almost everything unimaginable is treated as normal. The game doesn't tell you what you have to do - it doesn't even have any objectives. You just need to explore the whole area and talk to people. Most people in Gutter have their own agenda, so it doesn't take long until you get a bunch of quests to do, which causes another problem. You need to decide which quests to finish. I'm not talking about quests being optional - they already are, but what makes the quests in GUTTER: The Cursed different is that some quests might conflict with each other. The city of Gutter is full of conflicts and interests, and each faction wants to take its competitors out of the picture. You need to choose who you need to side with and do your job accordingly. Speaking of choosing, expect to get a lot of choices. Most quests offer more than one choices, which usually is decided with the response that you choose. You can try being friendly and negotiate for the other party's interest, or just kill whoever gets in your way. Yes, you can kill almost every NPC in this game, provided that you are strong and patient enough to do it. I like the freedom that the game gives. You are free to do whatever you want, explore any areas, and choose which quests to finish. The Gutter might be a vast place, but all areas can be explored in a few minutes if you know where everything is. Most areas are not locked behind progressions - the ones that are locked mostly require you to fight and/or related to the endings. There are 5 endings in total, and you can trigger them all in one run as long as you save in a separate slot before the point of no returns. Combat The combat in GUTTER: The Cursed is mostly optional, except with some that are tied to quests and endings. The maximum level is low, and it's easy to reach. Some areas have random encounters, but they are sparse enough - you don't have to worry about getting into fights. The combat system is also unique. Each character has different skill combos, which you can use in addition to your normal hit. The catch is that you need to remember the combinations, although it won't be an issue if you just stick to your favorite ones. Furthermore, the combo lists can always be reviewed in the skill menu, which is always available on your turn. Although enemies are easy to beat, combat still has issues. Casting combos use MP, and it's impossible to recover MP without items. The other option is to rest in bed, but it might not be accessible all the time. Money can only be obtained by doing quests, and quests are limited in nature. This means that you need to divide your spending between consumables and gears, and since you won't need MP recovery most of the time, it can be hard to justify such purchases. That being said, enemies are also too bulky. Fights tend to take a long time to finish because of that reason, and it just wasn't fun to keep doing the same thing over and over. Heck, even status ailments like burn and bleeding did more damage than the damage my party did in 1 turn. Length and Difficulty I finished the game in 8.6h and spent more time finding all endings in 4h (12.6h total). My in-game clock actually is listed in the ~4h mark, which I think portrays my playtime better than Steam. The discrepancy is mostly caused because I tend to run the game in the background while writing a guide, and RPG Maker VX, the engine that is used to make this game, doesn't count its playtime if it's being run in the background. The game is easy to beat. Some fights might seem impossible, but that just means that you need to gear up and come back to it later. The hardest part of the game is managing the order of the quests to finish and remembering the quests that are not listed in the key items. Yes, that's how difficult the game is going to be, which isn't saying much.
Conclusion
I like the approach that GUTTER: The Cursed takes. Unlike other games that focus on giving you objectives and/or in-depth stories, you get to explore in a limited area. As someone who likes quest-heavy games, it matches my taste very well. The quests are easy to track, and the areas are in the right size - it's not too big or too small to explore. Finding all of the endings blind might give another challenge to aim, although it should be easy to find most of them as long as you are attentive enough. The only downside is that the game looks rough around the edges and lacks polish. However, it can be cheap enough on a sale, which can justify the price. I could recommend the game to anyone that likes quest-heavy games, as long as they don't mind the low quality.
GUTTER: The Cursed

Amazing game and everyone should check it out. The sheer autism behind this passion project is beautiful enough to make a grown man cry. My first character met an unfortunate end between the jaws of a demon. Thankfully my second run has gone better, currently I am playing as a mentally underdeveloped man child named GLUE. He uses the skillful tactic of throwing Pocket Sand™ into the enemies eyes blinding them, then swinging in an autistic whirlwind with a flaming chainsaw. GLUE has trouble socializing, due to his learning disability but has his close friend SECURO 303. Who may or may not have stockholm syndrome. 10/10 Wonderful game. Plus I can murder all the children I want. Update (11/27): Needs more lolis

[th]🏆Verdict:[/th]

"GUTTER: The Cursed" was a surprising delight that exceeded my expectations. I initially thought it would be a simple RPG experience, but I was quickly drawn in by its depth, creativity, and engaging gameplay. The game has a unique charm that kept me hooked for hours, and I found myself spending far more time with it than anticipated. With its affordable price and free DLCs, it offers incredible value, making it hard to pass up for fans of quirky, dark RPGs. The game shines with its ability to immerse players in a brutal yet fascinating post-apocalyptic world, packed with meaningful choices and non-linear exploration. Its rich content and detailed questlines give it a special appeal, but some aspects, such as certain interactions (like scenes with NPCs or the transitions in events), could have been handled with a bit more finesse. A small narrative touch, like a message explaining what happened during certain actions, would have added more character without stepping into overly mature territory. That said, this is a minor critique in an otherwise stellar experience. For anyone intrigued by what this game offers, it would be a shame to overlook "GUTTER: The Cursed." With its engaging gameplay, intriguing world, and an unbeatable price point, this RPG has all the ingredients to make it a special and memorable adventure. Add in the two free DLCs, and it becomes an easy recommendation for anyone who enjoys freedom of choice, dark humor, and immersive storytelling. Alright. GUTTER: The Cursed is done and dusted. This was a crazy RPG Maker game that feasts on violence and depravity. And yet somehow manages to keep it just within the realm of acceptability by taking a kind of B movie approach with campy humor and almost comically exaggerated callousness. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3171973917 It’s clear the developers are fans of Fallout 1/2, and I’d daresay Streets of Rogue is an influence as well. This is a game that does have what seems to be a canon ending to go along with several other endings. And it is a game that takes choice and consequence very seriously. Almost everything you do will shape the world and the story wrap up. And you can act in whatever fashion you see fit within the scope of what the game provides. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3171973991 The city, Gutter, is divided into small districts. Some are controlled by gangs, others by whim, and one is even controlled by the undead. There are demons, who enjoy consuming people. However, some are able to keep their propensity for feasting on humans closer to the vest and walk among people. Although at least one seems to have forsaken the consumption of people in favor of running of restaurant lol. The game is quest driven rather than story driven. However, through the course of completing or failing to complete quests, you move towards several possible story outcomes. There is a level cap for your party members, and where you start out frail as a feather, you will definitely become OP pretty quickly. The leveling up itself is of the automatic JRPG variety, where you have no hand in it. What you do control is the gear you carry, the abilities you gain from gear, and what spells and skills you might find or purchase. The graphics are ideal for the setting. Grimy, often bloody, and very muted. The sprites were surprisingly detailed. It's not a graphical powerhouse, but it does what it needs to do. I can't say the audio really stood out to me. It neither impressed nor annoyed. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3171973825 It is important to note that this game doesn’t really do much to teach you about the game. There is a brief tutorial which ends in your death each time, after which you would be well advised to skip the tutorial and dive right into making your character. However, from that point forward, your only clear goal is to earn enough cash to be able to purchase an undisclosed secret from your beginning of the game benefactor. Beyond that, you’re on your own to figure out where to go and what to do. This can and almost certainly will feel daunting to new players. If this is describing your experience, don’t hesitate to make use of the excellent guide that is published in the game’s forum. At least long enough to push you in a direction. I played this on the Steam Deck. While it is definitely Deck compatible, you will need to make some adjustments to the recommended controller settings. My advice would be to set WASD to L1/2 and R1/2, and to set the D pad to ‘joystick’. Battery life was around four hours for me. I received the license for this game through my Robilar’s Reviews curator program. Anyway, the barrier to entry notwithstanding I thought it was a pretty fun game, and cost vs value is definitely there.
