GunnRunner has me hooked! It is both incredibly fun and challenging at the same time. The creativity of the game design and the fluid of the movements are out of this world. You can tell the game developer has an extensive knowledge of games and game making, with this you can see their love for what they do. I respect the work put into such an amazing game. This game is going to be a huge hit and I am so glad I found it when I did! If you haven’t already, BUY THE GAME! 10/10, 5 Stars, A++++, Keep up the good work pixelCast Games.
Found this gem at PAX East - wildly addicting with a great range of difficulty and mechanics in play Cannot pull myself away from leaderboard grinding A must-buy at this price point
This game is so fast and clean! GR is accessible to all platformer players, but designed with the needs of speedgamers in mind. If you have the fortitude to withstand a real challenge of acrobatic platforming, this is definitely a buy. Pros: +Blazing fast gameplay (no level reset time, quick movement options, does not waste time with slow tutorial) +Tons of unique and varied levels (some are mechanically educational, some are pure speed, some are puzzling, etc.) +No single solution (almost every level in the game seems to have several ways to beat it. One may be fastest, but others may be more feasible) +BOSS FIGHTS (truly unique, fun, and challenging bosses to take down) +Megaman-ish Chiptune OST (very nostalgic) +Diegetic UI design (gloves get red hot with gun, visor color reflects shield status, player flashes white when performing quick actions) +Fully fleshed global leaderboards, organized by season +Complete level editor (everything non-boss in the game is available in the editor) Cons: -Frustratingly difficult in the later levels. If you're a GODgamer, no issue for you. If you're a baddie, you'll have to play super slow and careful. -Insane achievements. You have to be like a pro speedrunner to "gild"(perfect) like 1/3 of these levels. The Verdict: If you enjoy platform shooters like megaman, this will be a super fun game for you. If you enjoy acrobatic platformers like meatboy, this will be a super fun game for you. If both of those games frustrate you to no end, you may still enjoy GR, but you won't likely get the most out of it. GunnRunner is a must-play for anyone whose library contains Meatboy, Celeste, The End is Nigh, N++, Dustforce, and the like.

GunnRunner an addictive action platformer with a classic retro feel. It's inclusion of leaderboards also reminds me of competing for arcade high score positions back in the early 90s. The games difficulty curves at a consistent rate with the earlier stages introducing you how the level mechanics works and the type of enemies you'll encounter. It's not just about shooting and running though as later levels do have a puzzle aspect which adds to the tension. The dev for this game is doing a fantastic job with feedback and even in Early Access this game is super solid. Looking forward to watching this one grow. GunnRunner is a retro style, platformer, run and gun game. There are many many levels that each require some extent of critical thinking to pass. This adds a fresh feel to each new level that you play. Overall pretty addictive and fun, I recommend.
A classic style pew pew game with a LOT of potential for level creation. It moves quickly and feels good! Don't expect to breeze through- you'll need good execution, a good plan, some puzzle solving abilities, and patience. If you're using an xbox controller and used to play halo with Bumper Jumper controls, try that control scheme in this game!
Really enjoying this, if super meat boy met mega man X is how I would probably describe this to people. The first boss fight really had me scratching my head for a bit until it clicked. Will keep grinding away at the levels, and excited to see what expert is like.
You know that familiar feeling when you get lost in an activity so much so that you lose track of (the interconnections of) time and self? Yeah, GunnRunner is unambiguously that familiar feeling (filled - no less - with fun, frantic, and friendly energy). I should note here that this feeling is necessarily the good kind of addiction, if such a kind exists, where it also adapts to different play styles. To be frank, while I have started to pick back up my deep (agape?) love for video games since the start of the pandemic, I have noticed a nostalgic difference with GunnRunner compared with the other games I have played - including, among other things, its absolute banger/bop of a soundtrack, colorful and inviting vibes, and immersive bits and pieces (e.g., the helmet color mapping that corresponds to your health)! Allow me to give more context. I am no speedrunner, and yet I nevertheless make paradoxically tepid and chaotic attempts at refining how I beat any given level in GunnRunner - from Sisyphean struggles of making the right dash or jump (see Tha Climb…) to more relaxed and methodical takedowns of the Assembled. Here is where C. Thi Nguyen's concept of striving play (hereafter 'SP') comes in handy. Nguyen defines SP as "Trying to win for the value of the struggle" (2020). Nguyen gives the example of rock climbing. If SP's telos (i.e., its 'purpose,' for simplicity) aimed at the means for the sake of the end, then rock climbing would be an irrational activity. After all, the end of rock climbing is to get to the top or to overcome some rocky obstacle, not to find the perfect combination of footing or what-have-you. Rock climbing - as an outsider - involves so much more than that. Instead, Nguyen argues that SP aims at the end for the sake of the means. What this means is that SP, unlike other kinds of play, embeds the player in what Nguyen calls agential fluidity where we meaningfully take on temporary ends as our own. Nguyen goes on to argue that SP, then, is a form of art. To jump ahead, GunnRunner embodies that form of art. The struggle that you - Astro - endure allows you - the player - the space to experiment, to perfect, and to craft new routes of action, both in and outside the game. Needless to say, I am excited to keep playing.
Found this game at Pax and had a great time with it, I bought a code from them there. This game is so solid. The controls feel so satisfying and the motions throughout the game are so fluid. The game, if you were to just play it for the game, is fun as it is. Worth the price and a lot of fun. But where this game shines for me is in the speedrunning aspect. With leaderboards and levels that some can take even less than a second, gunn runner offers an enjoyable casually competitive experience with minimal time commitment. The controls are so tight and fluid that it never feels like the game itself is against you, rather that it just takes skill and practice to shave off milliseconds from a 1 second level. The only real issue I have with this game is that it doesnt really feel like it has much of an artistic direction in the environments and sometimes the enemies feel a bit juxtaposed against the environment, but that hardly matters in the face of the gameplay, and at times can even make it a bit easier to go through the levels faster. 10/10 game tho super recommend,
