[th] Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. [/th]
Is this game a masterpiece? Nope, it is a frantic, button-mashing action game (not a turn-based game as I first thought). It is similar to One Step From Eden, EndCycle VS or Mega Man Battle Network. The action takes place on a field (called grid), divided in the middle. Your character moves around on the left side, your opponents on the right. Shoot them with all you have got, defend and avoid their attacks. Switch between your characters on the fly (foes have special weaknesses and you heroes have specialisations), you start with a party of 4 fighters and soon gain a few more. Once you have killed all enemies, you move to the next fight. Character developement comes between the combat, where you can equip masks and upgrade the powers of your heroines. The story is strange, your main character begins the game with total amnesia, but your friends tell you the beckground as you move on. You are the Champions of Clea, fighting for a goddess against monsters, robots and other Champions, talking and making decisions between the fights. Gamepad works fine. Conclusion: Little action game with flashy visuals and a complex story.
Never have I been so conflicted on a game. On one hand, game is quite pretty, love all the concepts at play, gameplay feels pretty good for the most part. On the other hand, this is not ready for launch. Simply put. A lot of bugs, (Don't even bother using the 2nd mask you get, good chance it doesn't work, or softlocks the game), typos, and the most absurd difficulty arrangement I have ever seen. Did you guys actually play through the silver mines? I don't believe it, not without some absurd amount of grinding. Enemies seemingly just randomly reflect stuff by the mid game, with no rhyme, reason, or tell as to why. Everything one shots your characters by the aforementioned point in the game, even accounting for elemental resistances, and being about as leveled as seems reasonable. There is a good game here, I can see it, and feel it. But it isn't there yet. I will (see below)recommend, for now, for the sake of looking fine enough for steam review score, but it will change if enough time has passed and the bugs are still there. Perhaps the difficulty is intended, but when One Step From Eden looks like child's play compared to this, perhaps one might consider if it might be a bit much, at least with no difficulty options. Maybe its the sigil distribution feeling stingy, I did see stats move a whole lot when I could get a full sequence done for levelling up another character. EDIT: (removed as it has been in some amount addressed, point was silver mines was the hardest part of the game, and softlocking repeatedly as I try to beat it.) EDIT2: Very fast turnaround on fixing stuff! I am sure there will still be more to find, but seems good thus far! It pained me to put a not recommended for any amount of time, but multiple softlocks for a simple action like using a mask is kind of a launch delaying problem, I would think. Updating back to positive, and I hope all goes well in the future!
I came back 2-3 months after release, as I said I would do. Couldn't even get passed 3rd Biome. Pros :
[* ]Art. The art is fantastic.
The game play (when it works) is very cool.
Did I mention the artstyle?
Cons :

Everything else. The game constantly crashes, constantly slows down - how are there still bugs after being in development for years..
The story. I see people hating on it for LGBTQ story line, this is a non-sequitur for me. The story itself is just.. inane. Some characters have absolutely no reason to be there, no point.
Want to unlock characters? Good luck! You make choices which you have NO Idea what the outcome will be and have to restart ( and hopefully not run into any bugs )
Want to finish the game in a clean run? Nope. Still not there. This game was supposed to release in March 2022. It's still not at a point where I can recommend it.
Enemy buffs that aren't explained, skills that aren't explained. Sometimes an enemy will just start to regenerate HP completely, won't shoot at you or anything, can't cancel it out. Game doesn't tell you how to deal with that. Just figure it out.
Hit Boxes are not accurate, enemy projectiles will register even if it doesn't hit your character.
The Price ...30$CAD for this ? Get One Step From Eden or Endcycle VS or Endlanders : First Encounter before this. It pains me to say but this game is a complete fluke.
Grid ARPG + various characters + hip graphics/music = Fast paced bullet hell style battles on different sized grids. Swap between characters and blast away. Classy comic book style story. Ok, so I haven't played this game for very long yet but I am excited to play more when I can! The gameplay is fun so far and it looks like there is a lot of content in the game which is pretty exciting. The music has been good and I really enjoy the manga style story panels. I am interested to see if the developers plan to keep updating and potentially adding content to the game over time or if they stick to small things like bug fixes and what-not. All that to say I recommend it. It's fun!
Overall I think it’s a really fun addicting game. The combat is similar to the megaman battle network game but also has a really good story/lore base similar to how the old final fantasy games used to be, but without all of the annoying side quest. I haven’t quite finished yet but there is a lot of content other than the main story, and so far I’m really loving the small details and the character development along the way. Currently doing a masochistic level 1 only run with my favourite characters and its really fun and challenging, and can’t wait to go back to unlock all of the characters. There are a few bugs but the dev team are so helpful, if you go into discord and tell them about the bug they usually respond within hours (UK time) and start working on a fix which is very impressive. I definitely recommend playing, I myself have a short attention span but have been enjoying this game very much. ---{Story}--- ☐ Doesnt have ☐ Not greatly told ☐ Average ☐ Good ☑️ Lovely ☑️ Will make you cry or smile a lot ---{Gameplay}--- ☑️ Try not to get addicted ☐ Very good ☐ Good ☐ Nothing special ☐ Bad ---{ Grind }--- ☐ Nothing ☐ Isn’t necessary to progress ☑️ Average grind level ☐ Too much grind ☐ Insanity ---{Graphics}--- ☐ Masterpiece ☐ Beautiful ☑️ Good and Hand drawn ☐ Decent ☐ Will do ☐ Bad ---{Audio}--- ☑️ Very good ☐ Good ☐ Decent ☐ Not too bad ☐ Bad ---{Audience}--- ☐ Kids ☑️ Teens ☑️ Adults ☐ Everyone ---{PC Requirements}--- ☑️ Potato ☐ Decent ☐ Fast ---{Difficulity}--- ☐ Just press a bunch of buttons ☐ Easy ☐ Significant brain usage ☑️Easy to learn / Hard to master ☐ Not so easy ☐ Difficult ☐ Dark Souls ---{Game Time}--- ☐ Long enough for a cup of tea ☐ Short ☐ Average ☐ Long ☑️ Depends on you – The base story of it takes maybe 10-15 hours if you’re already incredibly good at the game and don’t want to go back for extra secret characters or level up your characters with new builds. The voice was calling you by a number at first but decided to name you Donna as she felt that this time around, your journey would be different. It’s the voice of Clea, the creator of the Gora world, and she needs you to defeat her sisters so the world can be saved. Unfortunately, she is becoming increasingly weak, and there is no time to waste. Will you save the world of Gora once and for all, or will it reset itself again? The Journey of Grid Force - Mask Of The Goddess is about to start. Grid Force - Mask Of The Goddess, is an action/bullet hell game presented as a confined platformer with grids developed and self-published by Dreamnauts Studios on the 15th of September 2022 on the Steam platform. The game consists of 7 worlds, including a tutorial. This game is very interesting as it combines a couple of different genres of games. It is mostly a fast-paced bullet hell game set on grids, but it also has a choice-matter aspect that will affect some of your characters and different paths within each of the worlds. The story is quite complex and will keep you guessing about who is pulling the strings for a while. You have some fascinating manga (Japanese comic book) illustrations after every few battles, giving more substance to the main characters as you go along. Donna, the character you’ll play in this game, will be joined by another three female protagonists pretty much straight away, and the story will evolve around them. However, as you progress throughout the game, you’ll meet other ladies. There are another 20-plus characters to unlock. You’ll be prompted to either accept them to join or not join your party. And you can also swap characters when eliminating all the enemy waves from a grid. Allow me to elaborate a little bit in that regard. Each world has a certain number of levels. However, depending on the choices you made in your first playthrough, you may miss some stages within the levels as well as some of the characters to unlock. The good news is that you return to a world anytime (as long as you have already conquered it) to replay it and unlock new characters. The path you initially chose will be highlighted in pink, and the ones you have missed out on are in grey. So, the game has a bit of replayability, which is welcome. Each characters has 6 attacks to unlock; to unlock them, you have to upgrade their skills tree. The skills are Power, Luck, Speed, Defence, Health and Force. Each of these skills can be upgraded up to 10 times. The interesting aspect is that you must unlock stars to unlock a new attack. For instance, the third attack for each of the characters can be unlocked when you reach the fourth star. To unlock a star, you have to upgrade six skills. They can be any skills you like, but if you manage to upgrade the same skill 2 or 3 times in a row, your character will receive extra benefits for that specific skill. The gameplay is actually very refined due to the exquisite controls. It is fast and fluid, and I must say that I really enjoyed it. But there is one particular bug that damaged my experience; believe it or not, it has to do with the controls, the gamepad in particular. This bug occurred when I loaded the game for a save. I could not move my character on the grid; she was stuck. But what I found really strange was that I could use my gamepad in the main menu, but as soon as I loaded the game, it was stuck again. Press the button to return to the main menu, and it works again on the main menu. Load my previous saved same, and you guessed it, stuck again. I tried to activate all gamepad options from Steam properties options and verify all files. Nope, it didn’t fix it. Then I decided to restart the battle from the world map, as you can choose to replay the world you unlock and even choose which battle you want to restart. And Eureka, the control worked! Very strange. Anyway, this stupid and frustrating bug cost the game a couple of points in regards to the final score. Graphically, the game looks good, and the story is interesting. Apart from the weird control issue I encountered while loading a saved game, the fluidity of the gameplay in battle is excellent. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Good graphics and Japanese comic book illustrations throughout the game + Fun, easy to play and addictive. + Up to 30 characters to unlock + Interesting story + Controls (gamepad) are really good in battle + Achievements Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - No trading cards as yet - Strange controls bug after reloading a saved game. Grid Force - Mask Of The Goddess is full of action, addictive and easy to play with an interesting story. Unfortunately for me, an odd frustrating control bug undermined my experience. 6/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own! I followed this game for a long time and it's finally out so I needed to write something about it! I think I just passed half of the game and I simply love the variety of characters that you can recruit! The game is not too grindy as you can progress without going back and grind, but it allows you to do that. As someone that loves to grind, the fact that you have to level up stats with the respective element, instead of just raising levels of a char is very refreshing! This is a heavily story-driven game and there's a lot of dialogues, while I like story-driven games I also like the fact that I could skip it when I wanted to try another path of the story. I enjoyed the art-stile and the different environments, the comics as cut scenes are definitely a good addition. If you like MMBN you will probably enjoy this title even thought it's definitely more bullet hellish, at least at the part I'm currently at. This is a very fast paced game and so far it was lots of fun and it got me hooked on the story, hopefully I'll like it until the end of it.
Game is an incomplete mess overcharged with LGBT ideology stuff. -Lots of bugs, game breaking bugs... specially a lot of those. Interface its a disaster, works slow and sometimes freezes. -They story is a lame attempt to make something interesting but you wont understand a thing because the game haves so many flaws that at ending you get the game wont take in count anything you have done in the whole run. Only reason i finished this game is because i didn't want to feel i wasted money on it but i really did. -Prepare for a lot of boring grinding and lot of crashes that happen when you finish a hard area or boss fight, forcing you to replay the whole thing (great!). -Block system its a joke, sometimes you die because the game wants; nothing hits you and your main or even your whole party dies because reasons. Highlight of the game was the credits rolling before the ending and getting stuck with 2 giant logos disrupting the screen making the last part of the game a complete mess. Last quarter of the game is clearly rushed and they didn't care anymore, "just throw some cheap fights and end with it". -Don't even consider if you don't own a game pad, i tried keyboard and its unplayable. Follow my advise, don't waste your money! Get "One Step From Eden" instead, its 100 times better than this. Got this one thinking it was something similar to it and got clearly disappointed.
