Greed

Greed is bad, Greed is NoT good... BUt the game is a decent time killer!

"Greed" is a student project from the Objectif 3D academy in France and this year I have to say the students get a pass. This is a top down/iso 3D action game with lightweight RPG elements and a few novel game mechanics, making it a bit more of a "me too" concept and something that gamers could enjoy playing for an hour or so. That's sort of all you get, being a student project. But, when reviewing games, what always matters is the value it represents for gamers, and while this has a couple of shortfalls, they can be overlooked due to the agreeable price point, and a couple of hours worth of enjoyable gaming for the price of zero dollars should be compelling enough. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. Here, we get a reasonable balance of both. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Yes, believe it or not. While this is far from a perfect game, the deficiencies and drawbacks can be overlooked due to the zero up front price and the value you get out of it. It's greater than the sum of its parts, and worth downloading if you're a fan of this kind of gaming experience. If you're a gamer on a budget or you just like trying out indie/student games, this is one of the least offensive ones. Congratulations to the students, hopefully they've all gone on to contribute to the AAA gaming industry.
