Scavengers deep is an underwater 3rd person action roguelike game, with an emphasis on player movement for traversing the game world and encounters. The player character is among the poorer inhabitants of a flooded future earth and is looking to join the upper class. On one fateful day, Damien heard a rumour about a legendary treasure with untold riches however, a monster lies in the depths. Damien equips his high-power diving suit along with his water booster and dives into the depths to begin his journey. The high-power diving suit allows Damien Jones to descend to the deepest parts of the ocean. The suit is equipped with aqua jets which allows for better mobility underwater to assist against unwanted predators. Damien also carries his knife and harpoon gun to aid against hostile marine life. Scavenger’s Deep is an action game with a system of permanent death and a loss of items, making the player start the game again with nothing. Belonging to the beat-em’ up or brawler subgenre, the game uses hordes of enemies to give the player multiple targets resulting in an intense, almost overwhelming combat experience. The roguelike elements exist in the form of a “permanent” death system. This means that in each playthrough or “run” of the game, if the player is defeated (health reaches zero), they will have to begin again from the first level. Upon dying, the player also loses all items and increases to stats they had obtained over the course of that run.

"Scavenger's Deep" is a contentless (all procgen algorithms) barebones ripoff of Risk of Rain 2 but without any of the polish, nuance, proper progression, and with a scuba diving theme that nobody was really asking for. It was a huge failure on Steam Direct. What do you do in the game? Third person exploration of procgen environments, some fighting/boss battles, and annoying die-and-reset pain. Although playing the game is painful enough to deter everyone. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lot less work. As a result of this poor decision, the game gets tired and repetitive almost immediately. Developers must learn that procgen is a terrible substitute for creating real content. It should not be used as "ez-mode" for content creation, as the developer tried to do here. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? This is a "nope". While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher quality alternatives on Steam. There are over 140,000 games on Steam, not every one of them is a hidden gem. I'm here to help gamers find the ones that actually matter in that sea of Steam Direct self-published mess. If you don't agree with my findings in this review, you should definitely download it and play it to see for yourself. I'm happy to have helped you make an informed choice, regardless of the outcome. You deserve the best.
its a fun game mouse is a bit touchy and some cliffs you get stuck on when jumping , the bosses are cool names and designs i quite like it the kraken was my fave timing and jumps was a good change , running with the harpoon looks little weird but the rest of the animations are nice and well done

Yeah, this didn't really work for me. The game somewhat works but is very barebones. I do like the general style and graphics but otherwise it is lacking. Attacking is very slow, if you dash to the enemy you take a lot of damage still, I couldn't heal and eventually just died. If you like the looks of it, it's probably still worth giving it a try, it's free and you won't loose anything but a little time.

Finally! An underwater souls-like! [not really, but kinda] You're an old-timey diver on a mission! DEFEAT ALL FISH! You have two main weapons, Trident and Speargun...and 2 sub weapons, but I never used the subs at all, and mostly just used the speargun...up until the final boss, where the trident was much better. There's a good variety of fish to fight, most of them take 1 to 3 hits. The swordfish were particularly annoying tho, as their charge attack seems to hit you no matter what. Each level had a neat giant boss with fun mechanics. Besides all the sealife trying to kill you, you have to watch your air tanks, as they deplete quickly. As you kill fish, they drop scales which you can exchange in the shop for more air/health/powerups. You'll get way more scales than you reasonably need. The graphics are cartoony and fun, not trying for realism here. Love the goofy run-cycle, and how the speargun shoots. I had a lot of fun, but have a few gripes: 1: The trident's hit detection is weird...s'why I didn't use it much. 2: You have two types of dash, but neither of them like to work, you don't really NEED them tho. 3:If the tutorial mentioned the shop anywhere, I missed it...so I was playing on only my default air/health for several attempts...Shop is TAB btw...Once I found it, the game went from super hard, to pretty easy. Anyway, don't let these^ deter you, this was a blast! Bonking Fishies was surprisingly therapeutic. The game is only three levels, and they go by quickly. Can you think of another game where you fight a Sperm Whale who shoots lime jello orbs of of it's noggin like a volcano? No? Then suit up, and take a dip! These fish ain't gonna fry themselves!
Before I played Scavenger's Deep, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
