About
Gravity Ace is a 2D twin-stick where you fight gravity in space caves. It's a love letter to Thrust and Gravitar and all of the amazing games they inspired.
Descend into dark caverns, fly and blast your way past enemies, retrieve the reactor core and make your escape, all while fighting the deadly embrace of crushing gravity.
Do you have what it takes, pilot?
You are the Pilot, a volunteer in the United Earth Navy, assigned to the U.E.N. Hornet, a new ship with an experimental engine that allows it to warp behind enemy lines. Launching your small fighter craft from the Hornet, your mission is to sabo`e the enemy by raiding their bases and disrupting their power supply network made up of reactor cores connected through hyperspace.
There are plenty of enemies and they are out to get you. Fly, fight, and maneuver through dangerous enemy bases and intense gravitational fields. The core game includes a 24 mission single-player campaign and a level editor for creating your own scenarios.
Your ship is powerful but has a limited fuel supply. You'll need to scavenge fuel from the enemy to survive. Fuel management requires careful maneuvering and using momentum to conserve enough fuel to escape the gravity well.
Everything that moves is part of the physics simulation. Momentum and velocity can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Use your tractor beam to steal the reactor core, rescue astronauts, or hurl nearby asteroids!
Your ship is equipped with a powerful tractor beam for carrying large objects. The objective of each mission is to extract the enemy reactor core in one piece. Secondary objectives include destroying all enemy units and rescuing astronauts. Be careful -- the reactor core is heavy and fragile!
All of the levels included with Gravity Ace were made with the built-in level editor. You can make your own campaigns, stories, and challenges. And during Early Access, we're adding the ability to share levels with the community.

Gravity Ace includes an original soundtrack with 20 minutes of music.

A really well-polished arcade experience. Although you see a lot of the same enemies and obstacles as you progress, the level design and rapid gameplay loop keep you from ever getting tired playing. The bits of dialogue sprinkled throughout the levels help give the game a lot of character as well. There are occasional difficulty spikes, but they aren't ever really unfair. The game also has a simple but robust level editor that you can open up while playing any of the levels to make your own edits, or start a new level or campaign from scratch. The only feature I wish it had was an added "boost" button to give you some extra oomph at the cost of more fuel. It would have made some challenges I faced a little more fun to overcome and could make for interesting speed-runs as well. It is early access, so expect a few *extremely* minor bugs, but this is an extremely fun and well made game overall!
Gravity Ace is a colorful cross-stitch of retro twin-stick shooters with modern mechanics and level-design. Its polish is commendable, and its graphics, appealing. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing through Gravity Ace's winding, enemy-ridden, and (go figure) gravity-centered levels. Even though the core mechanics and goals are simple, their outworking in the actual game is fresh and engaging level by level. Some of the most fun I had was in puzzling my way through caverns or threading the needle through a rotating web of lasers. Though I also go to blow stuff up, and man, do my lasers look cool. All in all, this is a great pick-up. The levels are short enough (and difficult enough) that I can easily see this becoming a game in which my friends and I go around trying to beat each other's high scores. I look forward to new updates and levels!
Seriously amazing game! I just stumpled upon the game while being in a deep deep discovery queue and its one of those gems you're searching for. It's very polished, you feel its a labor of love and a lot of fun to play. I recommend!
Really fun retro style game with a lot of love and polish put into it. The pixel art is killer and the levels are challenging. Pro tip: Don't smash into the walls all the time like I do. If you smash into the walls, you're gonna have a bad time.
This game is a blast! So much juice in like this genre should be. Great vfx and sound!
Amazing game! Everything feels just right: the controls, the visuals, the sounds and the music, everything is so juicy. I'm enjoying just finishing the levels for now, but I'll come back to get a perfect score for sure! Having a level editor is also really cool, I can't wait to try more levels from the community.
Exactly what I wanted. Very Juicy.
beautifully done pixel shooter. lots of attention to detail. super fun and smooth. he has a whole series of devlogs about the development too.
cool new idea of space shooting and puzzle solving while fighting gravity it self. animations , art and music are cool
Notes: I was gifted a free key to play live on my game dev Stream. And I also use the Godot engine (same engine this game was made in) so this game has a certain soft place in my heart. The two best parts of this game: 1) The game feel. The developer nailed the feel and juice in the game. I find myself just enjoying flying around and in tense moments holding my breath trying to dodge a laser beams or a walls. There are also plenty of nice and juicy explosions, screen shake, and sound effects. John also does a great job of teaching you the game an then slowly ramping up the difficulty. 2) The player can pick how difficult the game is. The only real goal in each level is go get the reactor core. Everything else is optional difficultly. Which I think is genius. There is a grade system to try and get you to the hard stuff, but I don't have an ego and kept saying "C's get degree". As of writing this I've only completed the first act/campaign (2 total). And am excited to tackle the next campaign. There are a few random edge case bugs here and there, but nothing game breaking and out of the normal.
