In my opinion, the best GTA title—and Rockstar's storytelling masterpiece—is *GTA IV*. If you play games just to cause chaos, this one might not be for you; the tone is too serious—even in the *The Ballad of Gay Tony* (TBoGT) DLC—making it feel less than ideal for casual, carefree fun. It is a game driven by a strong, philosophical narrative. While other GTA titles let you live the fantasy of a criminal striking it rich, *GTA IV* exposes the dark, grueling reality of that life. Every choice you make carries consequences; Rockstar essentially puts your morality to the test through the decisions presented to you (unless you opt for a purely pragmatic approach). In *The Lost and Damned* (TLAD), Johnny belongs to a biker gang he knows is doomed to fail sooner or later, yet he stays the course because it is his life. Then there is *The Ballad of Gay Tony*, which serves as a respite from the grim criminal underworld, offering a glimpse into the nightlife scene—even though Luis Lopez is a reformed criminal who finds himself with no choice but to dip back into that world. It is the storytelling masterpiece of the GTA series, even if it isn't the kind of game you play solely for mindless fun. The downside is that this game is too demanding; I have a mid-range laptop, and even with the settings turned all the way down, it's still heavy.
