You have to download Rockstar's launcher and create an account and permanently link that account to your Steam account. Just to play this old ass game offline. Getting real tired of this...
Before anything else: if you're planning on playing this, definitely install Fusion Fix. It's practically essential if you want the best experience, as the PC port still has its fair share of issues. I'd also highly recommend restoring the removed radio stations, they're such an important part of the experience, that the game simply doesn't feel complete without them. I'm currently doing a full playthrough of every GTA game in anticipation of GTA VI, and out of all of them, GTA IV was the one I was looking forward to revisiting the most. I had already poured more than 200 hours into it back in 2008, but somehow I never came back to it after that. The day GTA IV launched is still burned into my memory... I remember sitting in school, debating whether I should stay for the rest of the day or head home after the very first class. It didn't take long to make up my mind. I slipped out of school like it was a side mission straight out of Bully, caught the bus home, and couldn't stop thinking about the adventure that was waiting for me in Liberty City. Whatever punishment I was going to get later felt completely worth it. Coming back all these years later reminded me why this game left such a lasting impression. It's funny to call GTA IV "underrated" considering it has a Metacritic score of 98, but I genuinely think it doesn't get nearly enough appreciation today. Whenever people discuss Rockstar's greatest achievements, GTA IV often ends up overshadowed by some of their other titles. I feell like that's a shame, because this game is one of the clearest examples of why Rockstar became the benchmark for open world games. The level of detail is astonishing. During one mission you're tailing someone when your phone rings. If you let it ring, the target hears it, gets suspicious, and starts running. Put your phone on silent beforehand, and he never notices, you can simply hang up and continue following him. Friends and acquaintances react to how you drive. Some enjoy reckless speeding, others prefer you obey traffic laws. Some even have favorite radio stations, and playing the music they like actually improves your relationship with them. These aren't features the game constantly points out. They're simply there, quietly making the world feel believable. They even created a fully functional in game internet packed with thousands of browseable pages, making Liberty City feel incredibly alive. Rockstar have always been masters at integrating the internet and social media into their worlds, and it makes me even more excited to see what they'll do with GTA VI. And that's what GTA IV does better than almost any other open-world game. Liberty City doesn't just feel alive, it feels like a character of its own. People jog through the parks. A lone saxophone player fills the streets with music. Shuttle buses and taxis carry travelers to the airport terminals. Every neighborhood feels inhabited by people living their own lives. It's a city that's constantly moving, yet somehow feels suffocating. Glamour is replaced by grime. It's cold, cynical, and yet so unforgettable. The story is really exceptional. The main character Niko Bellic is a departure from previous protagonist in the series, he isn't a flashy action hero. He's a man haunted by his past, a war veteran who seemingly could do no right, trying to wash away blood with more blood. His search for a better life slowly becomes yet another cycle of violence, betrayal, and regret. Rockstar wasn't afraid to explore dark themes, and because of that, it feels like every major story beat has certain weight attached to it. Death has consequences. Loss lingers. Even just cruising past Liberty City without a cause makes you feel just how lonely Niko really is. To this day, I still consider it one of Rockstar's finest stories. Important to say that this game also received two single player DLC's and The Ballad of Gay Tony deserves special mention. Even after all these years, it's still one of the best single-player expansions I've ever played, offering the perfect contrast to the darker tone of the main game. GTA IV isn't just another open world crime game. It's a time capsule of 2008. A technical marvel for its era. A masterclass in environmental storytelling and world building. Nearly two decades later, Liberty City still feels more believable than many open worlds released today. Some games age, but GTA IV....GTA IV simply waits for you to come back.

Grand Theft Auto IV is one of my favorite games of the Grand Theft Auto series, especially story-wise. However this remaster is horrendous, one of the worst I've played with too much issues, including poor optimization. Note that I am not recommending it because there's no in-between option that would better describe my experience: mixed feelings.
My second favorite GTA after San Andreas from PS2. Also for good experience i recommed to instal Fusion Fix mod
♥♥♥♥ ROCKSTAR LAUNCHER I HATE IT MORE THAN ANYTHING STOP GIVING ME SLOP LAUNCHER WITH YOUR GAMES. 10/10 game btw.
need an internet connection to play a 20 year old game, god save us
My rockstar account was hacked for gta5, and this makes it impossible to play gta4, as the launchers are connected. Please fix.
Grand Theft Auto 4! It's a return to the dark and grimy Liberty City. Except it's expanded A LOT! The city truly does feel alive everywhere you go, like a city that never sleeps. The only downside is that the open-nes from games like San Andreas and 5 aren't there. Sometimes you can feel a little claustrophobic in the city. The map is pretty bland and very gray. Which, while it does fit the theme, I feel like it could've been more interesting. For a game from 2009 though, it's not bad! The story is pretty good, although a little slow and the missions are a bit repetitive. 90% of them are: go here, start cutscene, drive to the other end of the map during dialogue and shoot these people, and drive back. I feel like there could've been a lot more interesting missions to make with the setting, which Rockstar does do with in the DLC. Niko might've become my new favorite GTA protagonist. He's blunt, ruthless and doesn't take any ♥♥♥♥, nor let anyone get in his way of his personal vendetta. At the same time, he does have good morals. For example, most of the time, he tries to solve things by talking it out first and only taking shots as a last resort. He stands up for ALL of his friends, especially his cousin, no matter how weird or annoying they might be. Speaking of friends, the friendship system in this game is.... okay. It's a little difficult trying to keep the relationship up between upwards of 5 different people. It's more annoying and chore-like than fun. However, they do unlock certain perks when you have high friendship with them. Most notably (and, imo, the only useful one) is Little Jacob and his discounted guns. The girlfriend system is very similar with 3 girls have different perks at a high like percentage. I'd say stick to ones you find the most useful and feel free to ignore the others. It's not worth the hassle most of the time (except for some nice extra dialogue) The game does have some other flaws here and there but there's 2 that annoyed me the most: - Bugs. Even with mods that help alleviate some bugs, there's still plenty. In my case, I got a bug where I couldn't hang out with Dwayne because my email inbox was full. Even after deleting emails, I got new ones, but none from him. Locked out of a whole friend and perk because of that. - Lack of checkpoints in the middle of missions. Yes, you can retry the mission immediately from your phone if you die or fail, but then you have to do the looooong drives to the actual destination. Only upside is that there's "new" dialogue when you fail a mission so it keeps it SOMEWHAT interesting. This game is different from 3, SA and VC in that the map is a LOT bigger, and the missions are A LOT longer. So, restarting a mission is way more of a hassle versus those games. THANKFULLY, they've "fixed" this in the DLC and did add checkpoints during missions. So if you fail, you don't have to start from the very beginning. And that's about it for the base game! I don't have too much to say about the DLC... The Lost and The Damned: While cool to have a biker-themed crime story, it felt pretty boring and all the missions were very similar to the main game. Drive here, talk, shoot, drive back. The story itself was pretty predictable and pretty meh. The Ballad of Gay Tony: I actually liked this DLC more than the main game. And for one MAJOR reason: The variety of missions. Yes, there is still drive-talk-shoot missions, but there are A LOT that feel more "GTA". A lot of helicopter-oriented parts (which are great, but the controls are TERRIBLE with KB+M, I hope you have a controller on hand), hijacking, theft, making things explode.. it's great! It doesn't feel repetitive in the slightest AND the story is very good and ties up some loose ends from the main game. All-in-all, it's a good, fun Rockstar game with a great story. Pretty much like all their other games as you would expect of R*
One of those true OG games that never gets old. The dark atmosphere, the story, the physics, and the vibe of Liberty City still hits different even years later. Every mission brings back memories of staying up late causing chaos with friends and cruising around listening to the radio. Niko Bellic is still one of the best GTA protagonists ever made. This game aged like fine wine and proves why old Rockstar games were built different. Absolute classic.
Not the best one but still pretty good, especially dlcs. People love gta 4 driving physics but imo - it's annoying. Main story is okay, dlcs story is better and more fun. Overall it's a great game. Can't wait for the 6 Zavtra na4nem igrat dermak 3 dikij gon
