Same maps over and over with scaling enemies (also always the same). Awful pacing, awful ui (lack of info on cards) weird bugs. Just no.
The story although basic as a surprising amount of though put into the characters, although the cut scenes stop having sound effects midway through. the combat was enjoyable on easy, but i can see not being able to grind freely being a issue on higher difficulties.
I was curious how a concept of combining deckbuilding with turn based tactical combat would feel, now I know it's not particularly enjoyable at least for me. A case where innovating too much in the core mechanics did more harm than good. Really hard to play strategically and tactically when the randomness of your card decks really limits your options. This game might play better as a pure deck building card game while removing the tactical aspect to feel more enjoyable. In the end it might just turn off both the deckbuilding audience as well as the turn based tactical audience. It's a shame, since otherwise the art and presentation isn't so bad and I'm a big fan of most turn based tactical games such as Fire Emblem and X-Com.

Meh. The game is not good, but for $3 I was entertained enough; allbeit that I relegated the game to a two monitor activity while watching YouTube videos. I've basically committed myself to finishing the game out of stubbornness. The combat is shallow. Having your character's abilities be random based off of card drawing is a bad decision. Better to have the randomness be whether or not your attacks hit, how much they hit for, etc. Instead your abilities are random but their effects are obvious. The story makes me curious, even though the characters are childish. Meh.
Lots of bugs. It could have been a fun game, but as it is its a difficult experience to play through, as you frequently need to exit the game and re-launch. Missing a lot of polish overall. The default controller set is a mess, with some buttons doing two actions (like the acknowledge button zooms in, the cancel button zooms out). The UI overall is very rough. Almost impossible to see the blue cursor on the blue backgrounds, so you always have to guess where your cursor is. If you use all your cards, you can only access the fixed ability using the mouse. Left/Right Trigger rotates the screen, but not spells, so you have to remap the Trigger keys to Q/E for them to work properly. Overall the UI seems to have been an afterthought. Renaming a deck creates a new spell book. Plus no way to delete decks. So you end up having a bunch of extra garbage decks cluttering up your UI as well. The game could be really good if they had paid attention to the UI.
I really wanted to like this game. I'm a big tactical RPG fan and I love card games. But the game is just meh. Not horrible, but meh. The story is fine, the characters are fine, the plot seems fine, the graphics are pretty fair. But the real problem here is combat just isn't any fun. I couldn't tell you why exactly, it just lacks any real interest or creativity and feels like a slog every time. The card mechanic is supposed to add individuality and some randomness but ends up feeling annoying more than anything else. These are not the kinds of issues you can fix with a patch. I'm sad to say it but I just wouldn't recommend the game.
I have put in about 6 hours of gameplay (though the tracker says 7). I am writing this review both as a player and through the lens of an indie developer, as I myself am a programmer and have worked on software and game design in the past. The review is a bit wordy but worth it, as it describes in full why I don' t recommend this game as of the time of this writing, and there is a TL;DR version at the bottom if you'd rather skip the details. I have requested a refund for this game and no longer wish to play it at this time. Here is what I typed into the help request when I asked for the refund: There are several bugs and flaws in the game, and it has been five months since production release. Yet after research on the internet, the developer seems to care more about updating art than fixing bugs. The final straw was when I was mid-battle, maneuvered my units a certain way, and an ability on one of the characters absolutely failed to have its described effect on an enemy unit, causing subsequent unit death for one of my own units. I can handle typos. I can handle poor grammar and misspellings. I can handle graphical glitches like a unit continuing to run in place for several turns when they aren't moving... and this game had all of these already. But for an important, intended game mechanic to be broken, and they're five months into release? It's just not acceptable. The visuals and art look really good, and their advertising material does a good job of portraying the story and the gameplay. For what was advertised, I'd have gladly paid $20. But I will not pay $20 for a buggy, unpolished mess. On top of this: I will say here that I had read many reviews for this game before deciding to purchase, because I try to be very careful about where and on what I spend my money. I legitimately WANT to like this game. I legitimately WANT to play this game. But the negative reviews are not only mostly true, but there are also apparently game breaking bugs STILL in this game as of the time of this writing. I myself am an indie game developer, and an avid RPG and particularly SRPG / TRPG enthusiast. I'll say that the developer's hearts are in the right place on this one, but not enough work was actually done on the product to ensure it worked the way it was supposed to. Maybe one day after the developer has done a THOROUGH and RIGOROUS round of bugfixes, QA tests and play tests to ensure quality, I'd consider purchasing again. Hell, if I were guaranteed a patch with fixes today, and it were guaranteed, I'd not even request the refund. But that's not happening. I'll happily spend my $20 somewhere else in the meantime until the game has its proverbial head on straight. The specific problem I had that was the last straw for me was when I had used one of the main character's abilities with the Taunt feature. The field was positioned in such a way that I had done it deliberately in order to goad a specific melee unit into attacking her instead of another unit I planned to move into the spot next to my target. In this game, 1 space adjacent means all 8 squares surrounding a unit, not just the 4 spaces 1 tile in any direction. Instead of the Taunted target attacking my tank, the main character, it attacked the unit that I'd moved into position next to it. There is not a clear definition of Taunt anywhere in-game, but in most other games I've played, including this one up to this point, the (correct) assumption I had was that unless otherwise described, a taunted target will focus all attacks on the unit that taunted it. Instead, this game's AI somehow backfired, and I'm assuming it has to do with a weighted aggro system that somehow even the taunt-based ability was not able to overcome. IMHO, this is a load of crap. Until I experienced this anomaly, all the Taunt abilities worked 100% to draw 100% of all attacks from the taunted target to my tank. So a sudden and unexpected event like this is, to me, too game breaking to continue playing it. I'm not going to waste my time building decks / playing with abilities if I cannot depend on them to work as described or as I am LED TO BELIEVE they are intended. TL;DR: The game has nice art, nice graphics, decent animations, and good music and sound effects. The story, though delivered in a bit of a ham-fisted fashion, also seemed decent despite some obvious writing flaws/inconsistencies (example, an allegedly blind NPC comments on how pretty a main character is barely 4 or 5 of his dialog boxes after announcing he cannot see). However, despite the creative gameplay mechanics and other enjoyable parts, the game has bugs ranging from minor / annoying, up to and including what I would consider "Major" if I were to rate it as a developer submitting it to a bug tracking system. I would recommend this game if it were not for the major bug I discovered which ruined the gameplay for me. If the characters' ability descriptions cannot be trusted to work as implied or described, then in my opinion, the game is not yet of a playable quality. If you feel you absolutely must play this game or desire to try it, wait until it goes on sale. I wouldn't recommend spending more than $5 on this game in the state it is currently in, and if/when the dev fixes the bugs and adds the polish it's missing, I'd happily agree it'd be worth $20. Just not until things are fixed. Thanks for reading.
Game is playable and enjoyable. Yes there are UI bugs but if you can get this on a discount then why not. Story is great but ending seems rushed and it looked like they planned to add content or continue it on a 2nd game at some point, we will never know until there is news sadly.
If it's on sale and you don't have any other games to play, this one is good enough to keep you occupied if you like tactical rpg genre. the game VERY simple, low complicity and not very detailed. After a while the game is very repetitive. Limited leveling system make it so that IF you change character to play (limited to 3 per fight) your main character may be under leveled. Game description is not very clear For example :Some cards have condition base on amount of "common" and "rare" card, but no information on which card is common or rare. Card system is very mediocre I would DEFINITELY recommend Gordian Quest, same type of game, MUCH MUCH better mechanic and details.
