Save your time; the plot and world seem to be completed, it's interesting to follow initially, but the combat, backtracking, menus, skill descriptions, items, mazes instead of a normal Gala town, abnormally fat HP bosses coming one after another, and after each turn you have to press wait/defence and choose direction.............AAAAAAAH
A very basic tactics game, almost felt like it was made in SRPG studio. Took me about 5 hrs to finish. Story isnt conveyed too well but there are a bunch of twists that come out of nowhere. There are also strong FF7 vibes: AMBUSH is basically AVALANCHE, you spend 90% of the game in a huge city like midgar, and the main character feels like cloud. But like I said, the story is chock full of random twists one after another which felt kinda funny. Gameplay is very barebones. There isn't much to explore outside of battles since the maps are extremely basic. The battles arent too engaging for the most part but towards the end you get a full party you can play around with, but I found that only 3 of the party members actually do anything meaningful in battles. The others just do minimal damage and act mostly as barricades to box the boss in so they cant escape. Yeah, by the end it was just 6-7 people beating up bosses for about 15 minutes each, sounds fun i know. Although I kinda liked how random the story was, I don't think this feeling will be shared by many others. Play it if you want to see for yourself, but just know what you are getting yourself into. It's a VERY basic game.
RPG Maker strikes again! "AMBUSH tactics Advanced" is yet another of literally hundreds, if not thousands of incredibly talentless, low effort pixelcrap RPG Maker asset flips. In their own words, "These easy to use tools are simple enough for a child". These are usually just stock assets and cringeworthy anime fan fiction writing. This is certainly some of the worst RPG Maker asset flippers have to offer... an incredibly basic RPG Maker asset flip focused mostly on the crap Final Fantasy 1 ripoff turn based RPG combat. But don't worry, the developer did include an incredibly cringey high school anime club dropout fan-fiction about himself and his imaginary anime girlfriends. The cringe is enough to make you throw up. As with all RPG Maker games, this is the result of a really bad game engine being misused. Like all RPG Maker "games", it looks bad in fullscreen and lacks HD support or graphics options. This is not acceptable for modern PC gamers. The argument must be made that construction kit toys like RPG Maker are intended for making small games, toys and demos to pass around with friends, and should never be used as a substitute for professional game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware, the game uses low quality 2D "retro" pixelcrap art and has bad gameplay. RPG Maker is garbage and never results in products with any real value as PC games. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. Let's talk about pricing and the actual value this has for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. This "free" game won't count toward your game collection count on your profile. With that in mind, is it something you should still download? Nope. This is just impossible to recommend to serious gamers. There's no up front price, but I still feel like I got ripped off.
