What bothers me the most about this game is if you take your time to get it right. You will never be able to accomplish your goals. You will always be in debt. There are also items that do not seem to attract any players. You lose money, because the object in question is useless, but you absolutely need it to advance in your goals. I believe this game has potential, but it doesn't feel complete.
So, right off the bat - the title is a bit of a misnomer. Grand Casino Tycoon is a good game, but it's a good -puzzle- game. The game features great artwork, a charming aesthetic and some really spectacular voice acting. Austin Powders in particular had me smiling all through the first mission. The background noise of casino goers also helps set a great mood for the game itself. The gameplay, as it stands, should be viewed as a puzzle. This has both good and bad to it, but I thoroughly enjoyed the puzzle aspect and am a little biased towards this game due to the sheer level of charm. THE GOOD -- Separating guests into specific typings and giving them a routine is something you don't see a lot of in management games and was very refreshing for my first playthrough. Unique challenges in each casino also keep it fresh for that first playthrough as you'll always be tweaking your designs to match each new map. THE BAD -- Replayability takes a hard hit. The routine system has the downside of removing a lot of the unpredictability and freedom in construction -- this will really piss you off if you bought into the game expecting something more in line with titles like SimCasino and RollerCoaster Tycoon, where guests use a traditional array of randomly assigned "need" values to fulfill. The deviation is minimal and often caused by the "flow" of guests as manipulated by objects that match routines, which ultimately weakens the challenge and makes a second playthrough a matter of "I wonder if we're getting any DLC or big content patches?" I have high hopes for this game and enjoyed it. Would love to see the addition of a more traditional tycoon play mode as well as some more fine-tuning to the routine system.
Played this game for a while at first I didn't understand that I need to separate the players by the routine and therefore I was stuck with low popularity. After that 9 hours passed in a blink of an eye... I like the humor of the players and the easter eggs in the game (American beer) :) Feature request: Want to move multiple items at once please
Grand Casino Tycoon is a cinical reminder on why the house always wins. It's not a free-building tycoon where you can place objects as you wish expecting that "it'll work out" - as in the real casino there is an intention behind each zone and object. After finishing a few levels I've got a strong Theme Hospital + Evil Genius vibe with a strong emphasis on proper placement of objects and an additional layer of management to ensure the satisfaction of all customers. Luckily you're not managing separate employees and adverts as your only concern here is to figure out the most efficient layout of the casino itself. I've especially enjoyed A/B testing feature and how you can see ROI of each object. I've barely got out of my own casino - it's as addictive as it should be. Some minor bugs could be encountered, but you can report everything to devs on Discord and we should see it fixed soon after the release. I was surprised to see it trending on "New and Upcoming" tab in Steam and then only a handful of positive reviews on release. An underrated game so far!
My intension to get the game was to try a new management simulation game and the idea of planning/constructing a casino with all the entertaining requirements for the guests was the selling point for me. My first interactions with the game weren´t as good as I hoped, because I had some issues starting it on my end and it took me some time to get used to the user interface. After those initials obstacles I was surprised by the gameplay, and it made a lot of fun to build the casino and keep all the guests happy. As the game progresses it gets way harder and with more guest types it also becomes a challenge to keep most of them entertained.
