About
You are a Living Spark surviving inside fragile wooden vessels that splinter, collapse, and catch fire. When your vessel breaks, the Spark escapes. Death is just a change of scenery.
Ride a cursed elevator into shifting underground ruins with your crew. Smash furniture for resources or feed them into the Grinder for gold. If everyone breaks, your loot is lost.
Trolling can become your friend’s demise. Dropkick enemies or “accidentally” launch your ally’s Spark out of their vessel. Block them in a monster-infested corridor or get stuck in the crossfire. Will your group handle the chaos you created yourselves?
The deeper you go, the worse the Rot becomes. Bodies warp. Voices distort. Emotes become…worse. Or possibly better?
The Deep Layers are filled with Corrupted vessels, reacting to sound, movement, and each other in ways that are impossible to predict. Fight. Build. Run. Panic.
When your vessel breaks, you stay in the run as a Spark. Guide your team through the dark and search for another host with a new set of abilities. Force your way back in before you fade out completely.
Everything you haul back rebuilds your Outpost. Unlock interactive furniture, stat upgrades, rescued survivors, and stranger ways to survive the next descent. The stronger the outpost becomes, the deeper you can afford to go.
Go deeper. Extract more. Leave someone behind. Make it back and build together.
Or don’t come back at all.

This game is the definition of "I've already played this." Mind you, I don't think it's* bad*.* It has its own presentation, visuals, and vibe. However, a lot of aspects are lesser copies of other Friendslop games. To the point that I'd ask myself: "why aren't I just playing ___?" In terms of the general gameplay loop, it's a slightly modified Repo. In terms of enemy variety, most of the monsters are just clones of or slightly modified reskins of Repo and Lethal Company enemies. I understand creating new content in the sea of copycat ideas that is the Friendslop genre is hard, but there could have been much more effort from the devs. In terms of difficulty, this game is piss easy, with a majority of deaths among my friends coming from early runs where we didn't have good enough weapons to properly fend off the larger enemies (mainly that giant with a club). There's VERY little pressure from the monsters, and the maps are a watered-down version of the manor from Repo. Again, it's not *bad,* just severely undercooked. As for the "horror" side of things... this game isn't scary, let alone intimidating. I can tell a true spook-type game wasn't the intention; however, that's a double-edged sword. The half-committed presentation and originality of the "horror" areas only further reinforce the idea that the devs saw other, more successful games in the genre and thought, "let's do that!" Despite me saying that, there are also clear displays of originality and passion from the devs sprinkled throughout the game. Grain Rot feels like it wants to be its own thing, but is too afraid to expand outward from the concepts of more successful games. It isn't simply a case of "oh, this is kinda similar," it's a case of "oh, this is just ___?" And that leads back to the question of "why aren't I just playing ___ ?" Now, despite that all sounding rather negative, I still found the unique concepts of this game fun. I enjoy the body swap mechanics and think it makes for a unique hide-and-run loop that isn't just "hide behind/under prop." I like that we can take the little animal bodies and keep them in the elevator as a pseudo second life. I thought the way you go about upgrading your characters through fixing the hotel was cool even if it was a little bland. The ability to scrap objects for parts rather than just money was also a fun twist, even if the mechanic's uses in the "horror" segments are practically non-existent. I also just generally like the looks of the player characters. They were clearly inspired by the movie "9" and I find their designs charming and less "forced-goofy" than games like yapyap, gamble with your friends, and prat fall, which clearly designed their characters with the intent of "we must be goofy and weird so people clip our funny faces," rather than games like Repo, Lethal Company, and Peak, which designed good characters with the fun side effect of possibly being goofy. This is all to say that Grain Rot's character design is more thoughtful and creative than it is sloppy and silly-baity. At the end of the day, this game is somewhat enjoyable for a few hours with your friends, but leaves me wanting to play the games it takes inspiration from rather than itself. I wouldn't call it bad, but I don't feel any draw to keep playing, nor do I suspect I'll be thinking about this game after I'm done writing this review. In a way I suppose that's fine. The game was cheap, it gave me a few hours of fun, and that's it. I'm not going to give it a thumbs down, as I don't think it's deserving of a negative rating. But if Valve were to implement a "meh" option between good and bad, I'd probably give it that.
Despite it being ,,sort of unfinished,, its incredibly fun to play. The next floor will be available soon from what we know. The hunt for valuable items to get currency, the progression through your own base, stacking up all your found stuff and upgrading them aswell, upgrading your own base which has a purpose even... all of that together is just very fun. Unlike many other hub's which is just there for you to sit around and wait for the round to start, here you have something else to do outside of the spoopy rounds. If you wanna try something similar to Repo but in different, check this one out for sure!
Super fun and actual progression unlike other Social Construct games. I highly recommend this one. I prefer this to Repo.
