I really liked the first Goetia, but this sequel is honestly just a mess. Poor writing, obtuse puzzle design and riddled with bugs, some of them gamebreaking, making it possible to get stuck with no way of progress quite a long way into the game. Sad to say this is a waste of time, as I was hoping for something of similar quality as the original game.
I finished the game after 25 hours playing it! I needed to replay it almost complete, because found salt before compass and that made me a glitch. Game is beautiful, and I thanks Moeity to correct the bugs. I love the story, but we have a glimpse of it, after you play half of the game. I truly recommend it!
Quite a disappointment after the excellent first game, so don't get this just because you liked that one. Goetia 2 is horrible at communicating what it actually wants and what you can do or where you should go at any given time. The puzzles are strangely as obtuse as they are simple and pretty often don't make a lot of sense or feel like busywork. Haven't had that little fun with a game in quite some time. Even the story is a boring mess and never made me care in the slightest about the two characters I supposedly want to save from their situation. Neither did it get me interested even remotely in what the antagonist (?) was all about.
A very good attempt at recreating the original Goetia. A+ for effort. However, it ultimately just feels like a pale imitation of Goetia 1. It lacks the incredible atmosphere and mystery the first game had. I complained about the super cryptic nature of the original, however this game is too straight forward, especially in comparison. It can be completed using the tried and true point and click strategy of rubbing all items and locations together. It's been awhile but I remember the original game's puzzles being much different and requiring almost superhuman logic (or the use of a guide). And although the obtuse nature of its difficulty was one of its flaws, it was also part of it's charm and personality. In addition, Goetia 2 has this nagging problem that makes it very difficult to click on things while possessing an object. It's as if the object itself covers the area meant to be clicked on, so you have to move away and then move the mouse back to the spot, hoping you click fast enough before the possessed object catches up with the cursor and covers the spot you're trying to click on. A very obnoxious flaw and hard to believe it was overlooked and made it into the final product.
On the surface this game looks very nice, it's pretty and runs smoothly. But it still has multiple game-breaking bugs that have never been fixed. This includes key items necessary for progression completely disappearing. The story isn't terrible although it is a downgrade from the original game. But since there's a possibility of getting stuck and having to completely restart the game (only to encounter the bug again!) I wouldn't recommend purchasing this game until it is fixed.
Beautiful sceneries & sinister moments, loved the atmosphere. Some puzzles were hard for me cuz of the really open nature in the locations, items & puzzles, but manageable still. I was afraid to try it, but lucklily at the moment I haven't found most of the bugs mentioned, maybe thanks to the recent patches & fixes.
TLDR A disappointment compared to the previous game in every way. I recommend it for hardcore puzzle enthusiasts but if you, like me, were a fan of the previous game, you'll be disappointed. Unsure how to feel about this game. I felt kinda meh about a lot of it, mainly because it overstays it's welcome quite a bit.Especially the last hour or so of gameplay I was just ready for it to be over and I was trying to get to the ending ASAP. I really enjoyed the previous game, it was hard as balls and there was a lot of backtracking, but a lot of it was fairly intuitive and the game was pretty good at giving you direction in the way the areas became accessible over time. While Goetia 2 does part of this as well, with the new areas that unlock over time, there's a lot of back and forth and there's basically no direction whatsoever on what to do and where to go. While the first game had a fairly good flow, not sure what to call it, Goetia 2 comes to a screeching halt every time you collect a new item for the ritual. Especially the final part of the game, my map bugged out. There's supposed to be question marks to mark all areas you haven't accessed yet, but mine disappeared from my map which caused me to have absolutely no idea where the newly accessible areas were. There were a lot of other bugs too, like puzzles not detecting the correct solution and having to exit out of the game and load back in, in order to complete the puzzle and proceed to the next step. I think the first game was just better in every way, better story, better characters, better direction, better gameplay flow. I wish I could give a neutral review but I can't. I'm also kinda bummed there are no steam achievements for this game, so I can't get that 100% completion. It seems the devs have completely abandoned this game so I doubt they're ever going to add them.
