This is by far the best goalie VR training simulator that I've played, and while that is a very small pool, it legitimately helps improve your game. I try and play a quick round before any game and it provides a noticeable improvement in hand-eye coordination and movement. There's a good variety of drills with a ton of customisation options. It's an easy recommendation for anyone looking to improve their position. The only drill that doesn't work properly unfortunately is the mode that simulates players, the players always freeze after one or two shots, and since it hasn't been updated in over a year I don't expect that to change. But for a free game you can't really complain, easy recommendation for anyone looking to improve their position.

The Good: -Free -Lots of customization -Leader-boards -Progress tracking -Customization Bad: -Rumble on my index controllers felt WAY too aggressive(which not only is a bit annoying is also bad for the battery-life) -Physics felt a bit off
Very Cool Concept for VR
Goalienator is a free VR hockey goaltending training game. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played good, sounded ok. You have training mode with multiple training games, some have a twist from hockey. You have a catchers mitt and hockey stick to use to block shots but no body or leg pads, so good training for your hand / eye coordination. You can try to get better scores than other player on the leaderboard. Provides feedback on your performance. Has 10 steam achievements. You can tweak the training settings to fit your skill level. Get this, if you play ice hockey and wanna train for goaltender position or just need hand / eye coordination training.

"Goalienator" is a godawful VR tech demo where you pretend to be an ice hockey goalkeeper... yep, that's all there is to it. Amazing what people will burn $100 to publish through Steam Direct, isn't it? What do you do in the game? Very, very little. VR goalkeeping, the end. Ok, so there's more than one game mode, but they're all bad. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
the game plays great and is a lot more responsive than what i expected for it being free. only issue ive had so far is i feel like a giant but aside from that its great!
Before I played Goalienator, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
