Go Quirk! is a cute, single player card game where you collect cute beasties called Quirks to add to your sticker book while you test your memory and skills. Settings include; audio controls and difficulty settings. If you wish to put your game into windowed mode, put -screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080 (or a resolution of your choice) under properties in the games Steam library page under launch options and relaunch the game. Then after relaunch just hit alt+enter for it to resize.
Gameplay
This game is similar to the card game “Go Fish”. As you win hands you collect cute little beasties or Quirks that you add to your sticker book. If you get duplicates they just go to upgrade your stickers automatically from bronze, to silver and to ultimately gold. You start off being able to access one of four decks (with the other three becoming unlocked as you complete your Quirk collection in each one). You start off with the Forest deck. Others include Castle, Night and Beach decks with different quirks in each deck or realm to collect that are unique to each one. The goal of each game is to win the most quirks at the end. A “Quirk” is three of the same character card. Like in “Go Fish” you ask your opponent if they have the card you desire, if they do you collect it. There are also steal cards and block cards in the deck. There is a full tutorial you can view first before jumping into the game that is very well laid out and explanatory.
Visuals & Audio
The artwork is adorable and hand-drawn. Probably aimed more at younger gamers with the bright colors and palette but we young-at-hearts can really enjoy it too :) I love the addition of the sticker book. The goal of collecting all the stickers is fun. Your opponents will say little cute little things now and then like “Go Quirk” or make a cute little laugh when they steal a card from you. The music is fun and relaxing. A nice score to accompany the game.
Overall Experience
A wholesome game that is fun for the whole family with cute Quirks to collect for your sticker album. It would be fun to be able to play co-op against your friends but the AI opponents can be challenging, especially if you only need one or two quirks left to complete your deck. 🌟 The Butterfly Effects wishes to thank Emmerse Studios Ltd for providing a free review copy for this game. Super cute, super simple family card game based on Go Fish! with added action cards, and its pretty fun and pretty addictive too. The other main difference is that you only get one move per turn, even it you 'catch' a Quirk. The addition of tiered progress where you collect each animal set (suit book equivalent) to earn the next set of different animal cards, really adds to the moreish feeling, like collecting Pokemon. But it wont stay moreish forever once you catch 'em all and the main reason for that is.... no multiplayer. It strikes me that a multiplayer option of this could really add to the longevity and appeal of this game, and with Steam Families just released into the wild this would be an absolutely perfect candidate. Instead, I'm afraid you're stuck with just CPUs (3 difficulty levels) to play against. Although the game is very simple, I like the art style and production values, the UI is simple as is the tutorial. I've noticed a couple of bugs and oversights though: the game can terminally freeze from time to time requiring a restart (there's no mid-game save state) and the CPUs can play their steal protection card when they don't have the asked-for card, effectively a bluff. You, the player cannot do that - if you don't have the requested card you can only tell the CPU to 'go Quirk' - that's an asymmetry which needs urgent correction IMO. So, kids will love to learn and play this game as will chill, cosy adults who like a card or board game, but it misses some obvious wins by lacking multiplayer and a little bit of polish
So much fun, and easy to see that the physical game would be even better. Hilarious sound effects and some very Quirky characters, 10/10
Great little game for the family. Cosy way to pass the time.
A delightful card game full of personality, it's fun to collect characters but it feels even better to steal them!
Go Quirk by Emmerse Studios is a digital adaptation of a card game that aims to provide a playful twist on the classic "Go Fish" formula. Designed for a younger audience, this single-player game with three opponents offers simple gameplay mechanics and colorful visuals but ultimately lacks depth and variety. The main objective of Go Quirk is to collect sets of three cards with the same character. Unlike traditional "Go Fish," players can steal cards from their opponents, adding a unique strategic element to the game. This gameplay mechanic makes Go Quirk somewhat more engaging than its classic counterpart, as it requires players to plan their moves carefully. One notable feature of Go Quirk is the ability to change player colors, which adds a small degree of personalization to the game. The three difficulty levels – Easy, Medium, and Hard – provide some variety, but the difference between them is not particularly significant. As players collect sets, they are rewarded with stamps for each of the four game areas, giving them a sense of progression. Despite its attempts to innovate, Go Quirk suffers from some limitations. The absence of a window mode may be inconvenient for players who prefer not to play in full-screen mode. Additionally, the game's focus on a younger audience may deter older players from giving it a chance. Finally, the lack of online multiplayer support means that players are limited to competing against AI opponents, which can become repetitive over time. In conclusion, Go Quirk presents a mildly entertaining card game experience that introduces some new mechanics to the classic "Go Fish" formula. The price is perfect, however, its repetitive gameplay, limited features, and narrow target audience may struggle to keep players engaged for extended periods. As a casual, family-friendly game, Go Quirk might provide some short-term fun but is unlikely to become a long-lasting favorite.
