A fast-paced, Egyptian-themed jousting tournament recalls 1980's classic arcade action. Glypha is a rewrite of the classic shareware game from the early B&W Macintosh days. Smoother, faster, and harder than you remember.

Best version of Glypha of all time. The fluid movement of modern machines takes it to the level it has always deserved, ever since it appeared on our Mac screens in 1990.
This is a fast action Joust style arcade game with a unique visual style that brings me back to the black and white Mac Plus days! It's a fantastic tribute to a timeless genre that will have you hooked from the first clash of lances!
To be honest, this isn't my favorite game from John Calhoun, but after booting it up I reawakened childhood memories of playing this from a 600-in-one shareware disc, so I probably owe John the $4 from that.
The port is well done, so I'll just talk about the negatives so it can be fixed. -Resolution: There is only way to leave it in full screen or windowed, but there is no way to change the default resolution (my monitor is 1920x1080, and it seems that the game is a lower resolution). -There is no way to choose the amount of lives, whereas in Mac's Glypha you could. -The help function turned black after playing a few times. https://youtu.be/jDDp9XNYmIU ---------- Extras that could have: -Workshop (map creation); -Leaderboard online; - Character customization. Those would be ideas, but I also think it might change the idea of keeping the original game. ------------------- In general, it's really worth it.
Best Joust clone ever, now no longer confined to classic Macs, though I don't remember it being this hard! Pretty much a perfect port, but one suggestion: ditch the ugly bilinear filter for nearest neighbor, or integer; the blur does a disservice to the pixel art.
Lots of fun! I never played the original back in the day, but I played the heck out of one of the authors other games: Glider. Glypha has been re-imagined several times over the years, but this feels just like the original monochrome Mac game. The game play mechanic is very simple but hard to master. The animation and sound is great, and I love the vintage Mac feel! Great for players of all ages. Glypha is an arcade style game that was originally released (as I understand it) on the classic monochrome Macintosh back in the mid 1980s. The goal is simple, you have to hit the enemy while your lance is higher than theirs. This is tricky because the birds never fly in a straight line, they are always either falling or rising, so it's easy to mess up and hit an enemy when their lance is higher by accident, which kills the player. When you kill an enemy, they drop an egg that gives you extra points if you can claim it before it disappears. There are platforms to land on, but the floor itself is deadly. There are only 3 controls: the left and right arrow keys for direction and the spacebar to flap your wings and increase your altitude.
Love it... I'm so happy to see a classic Mac game on Steam. This version is very smooth and effectively conjures up the memories.
The fact that I can enjoy this game while being godawful at it is great. Runs really smooth and is just pure chaotic arcade fun.
Great update of the shareware game which was a unique take on the arcade game Joust
I am long time fan of Soft Dorothy Software games, so when I heard that Glypha was being released for modern machines I could not wait to play it. If anything, the new game takes the foundation laid with the original and improved it with faster gameplay and more responsive action. Keeping the B&W aesthetic of the original game was a bold choice, but it absolutely serves the game well with an extra hit of nostalgia.
