Review - Gluon
This review was brought you by Save Or Quit!, visit us! ===
Overview
Gluon is a space simulation sandbox game with management and building elements. This game is set in a rather distant future, where space colonization already took foot on many planets. One day, the Imperial forces, for reasons unknown, decide to attack Earth, manage to destroy its fleets and successively devastate the planet. You will impersonate Ares, the pilot of a modular transport which happened to not be near earth when the attack happened. Startled and confused by this sudden imperial attack, you will have to get your wits together and find a way to rescue people and then mount a counter-attack against the forces that destroyed your home planet. This game includes exploration, ship building and resource management elements, to create a feature-wise rather complete space sim, or at least this is what it seems. ===
Gameplay Analysis
General Gameplay Gluon's gameplay is divided mainly into three aspects, which are: Management: You will have to manage a variety of resources and people in order to accomplish your goals and build a fleet: mine asteroids to get metals and rare ores, make deals with space stations to settle your colonists on planets and produce food for the fleet, get mining licenses or you'll have troubles. There are honestly many aspects to manage about your ship and fleet, too bad all these management operations are run via a very badly designed user interfacem that will make even the most simple operation very clunky and unintuitive, it looks like in this aspect, the game is coming right out of 1998. Ship Building: Your ship is composed of modular sections of different types, each one can be modified to use a variety of tools, for example combat sections will be used to host various weapons, while engine ones will be used to, obviously move the ship. All sections are of cubical shape and will automatically snap to each other. Each section will have requirements in materials to be built and requirements of energy to work properly. All this is directed by your command module, an indipendent cube-ship that can detatch from your main vessel at any time and be indipendent, even if for a short time. what i noticed is that ship building is quite bugged especially when it comes to detatching the module, i personally had to replay seven times the tutorial sequence because each time i detatched my command module the ship exploded, because of bugs. This will happen more often than you think, just because the ship building system is bugged as hell. Combat: when in combat you have your ship's weapon and your fighter ships at your disposal. Your ship is the main firepower out there, and fighters will only be good to divert enemy attention from you while you fire at them. Your weapons are automated, as your fighters are, you just have to move the ship around and decide if or if not to retreat. You can select which target to hit but that's it. Generally i noticed the combat is quite slow and clunky and generally does not give out that involvement sense that should be there in space combat games. Combat System Read above Content There are not many planets to explore, all are already charted on your starmap so forget about the sense of discovery that is an important part of space exploration games. The campaign will put you through a series of objectives, and there are secondary missions given out at space stations to get some money or resources. Missions are of few types and become quite dull after not long. content wise this game is not very large, especially for being a space sim, honestly it gets uninteresting very soon, also because of its clunkyness. ===
Technical Analysis
Graphics Graphics are 3D, but terrible at that. Even at maximum settings, there is very noticeable aliasing, textures are low quality espexially on planets, art and color palettes are few and of forgettable quality or craftmanship. Space looks static and dead, no effects or particles to get you that "aliveness" that is typical of space in modern space sims. Not good. Sound Sufficent, when it does not bug and a sound loops indefinitely until you restart the game. And that happens quite a lot. Performance For the amount of polygons and textures we have in this game, it should run well even on old machines. Stability Crashes were a few, still a major issue for a NOT early access game. AI Very basic, will try to kill you but won't engage in complex fleet manouvers like you'd expect. Quality of Life Absolutely disastrous. An apocalypse. The interface and the way menus and actions are designed is awful. To do even the simpliest thing it will be an endless pressing fof buttons and menus, interface is unintuitive, unresponsive and just uncomfortable. Bugs / Other Issues English translation is terrible and probably was made with an automated program, i hope so at least. The storyline is a stereotype and very boring and uninteresting. The game is riddled with minor to medium severity bugs which take an heavy toll on experience enjoyment. There is no difficulty setting for AI. The game does not properly render 1920x1080 at fullscreen but will instead be an obscure resolution of like 1918x1060 or approximatley that, at least what resulted from screenshots was this. ===
FINAL RATING: 3.0 / 10
This is a space sim you should avoid. With a few very mediocre points at its favor and a massive quantity of points against it, this game should really be an early access title, or rather IT IS an early access in disguise. do not waste your money and time on this and move along to better space games, because there are a lot.
Took 3 days for it to even start! Had to send log files to the dev, which got returned to me! (bad email address?) Second or third patch got it to actually start. Finally starts, it didn't save, had to start over from the beginning, again, over and over. Now, it crashes in the exact same spot every time---the very first jump in the game. Repeatedly tried it (going through the whole intro each time), it repeatedly crashes. Seems like it's still in EA and definitely wasn't ready for release. My first refund ever! 'Might' revisit in 6-12 months.
Robust Space Sim with some interesting Drone gameplay. UI is fairly archaic but servicable. English translations could do with some work. Reasonable story takes you through the basics of the game. A really good buy at this price range. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwC94gv5AOg

DO NOT BOTHER IT SHOVEL WARE!!! RUN BECAUSE IT NOT BEEN UPDATED SENSE IT WAS RELEASED!!
I'm loving it.
