Glitch’s Trip ~~~~~~~~~ Welcome to Glitch’s trip; are your platforming skills honed to that of Ninja status? You shall soon find out in Glitch’s Trip. Join Glitch our protagonist as they run, jump, climb, shoot and use their ability to glitch between the foreground and background of the world. Just as you think you have mastered this adventure, the game ups the stakes, as progress for you also means more advanced enemies and terrain as you journey deeper and deeper into the game. Glitch’s Trip Released in Feb. 2018 by Ransacked Studios, LLC in Early Access Glitch’s Trip is a Hardcore 2D Action Indie Title that will test your platforming skills. Being an Early Access title the game is still growing, so you can expect a lot more features & levels as the developers work towards final release. They have a solid game in place now, with 2 worlds completed out of 4 planned, with a total of 50 levels currently in game. So get ready for an action-packed adventure - Good Luck and Happy Platforming! You begin your first level in a tutorial area to familiarize yourself with the controls of the game. As you progress, levels increase in difficulty in the ever-changing world in which you traverse. Use Glitch’s power to teleport from the foreground to the background and avoid bullets; this alters the 2D world to progress and protect yourself. The vibrant graphics, level design, and unique soundtrack have already shown that Ransacked Studios may be an upcoming Indie Developer in the ranks on Steam. We really have enjoyed Glitch’s Trip; as I was playing, one of my sons wanted to challenge me with his platformer skills. I do admit, it is harder these days to keep up with these young gamers. We had a riot competing for the fastest times! The game’s vibrant art style and 2D world are well designed with a soundtrack that doesn’t overpower the game. The game is fast, fun and full of action, with some levels being a little easier (just to drop you into the next), which leaves you wondering how Hardcore this can get as you master manipulating the game. Pro’s: +Vibrant Graphics +Steam Achievements +Challenging Gameplay +Fair Price Con’s -No Trading Cards -Only has 50 levels currently (More to Come :D) Score 8/10 Glitch’s Trip: A Vibrantly Stunning 2D Hardcore Platformer Experience! Really to hard even on easy difficulty because of lack of checkpoint, can't recommended at last for beginner ...
Glitch's Trip is a perfect mix between Super Meatboy and Geometry Wars. The constant visually pleasing effects and colors reminds me of the original Geometry Wars game I would play with my friends. Meanwhile the challenging levels of Glitch's Trip reminds me of Super Meatboy. Definitely a must buy for any fan of platformers!
Hard pass, and I have to disagree with velrin's review. I tried playing this between super meat boy sessions and just off the back of finishing DYE, and found this to be thoroughly unpleasant to play. This feels like neither SMB nor Geometry Wars. SMB is a precision platformer and true to its genre, it's tight and smooth and demands skillful execution (and more importantly: it's fun). Geometry Wars is a tightly crafted arcade bullet-hell-esque twin stick shooter. By contrast, this game is too floaty and slow. Rather than any kind of precision, you are given a button that just freezes you in place and makes you invincible, and you are expected to use this rather than, idk, time a jump or dodge bullets, and this mechanic is also forced onto these timed switches that you activate by freezing in them. You are also given the world's most out-of-place shooting ability, which is forced onto the right stick (and no simply having directional shooting on the right stick does not make a game a twin stick shooter, let alone a good one), and you have no option to move with the dpad, even though you can navigate the menu with the dpad just fine. The button placements are weird as hell. Jump on LT? Movement only on LS? You have four face buttons and a dpad. Use them. Frankly, regardless of what genre this game is attempting to be, it's not good. I wasn't expecting a precision platformer or a twin stick shooter. I brought that up more or less as a response to velrin's review because I felt the comparison was completely unwarranted. The crux is this: the game is not fun to play. I haven't even finished the first world and I already hate this game. Almost every single mechanic feels poorly thought out and it feels super clunky to play, and this is a big problem. I can excuse insane difficulty spikes (DYE wastes no time in dropping insanely difficult levels on you, and most IWBTG fangames are hard right off the bat with a mostly flat difficulty curve), but I cannot forgive bad controls. It feels like someone's newgrounds flash tech demo from 2012, not like a game that should be asking for $13. Tighten up the mechanics, polish the controls and remove that god awful shooting mechanic in favor of something more conducive to action platforming, and then we'll talk. I will attempt to finish the first world, but I doubt my opinion will change. Edit: I've finished world 1 and I hate it a little less, but it still feels like a chore to play. I feel bad being so negative about it when the dev clearly put a lot of content in it, but it's not fun. Everything feels like it takes too long. The boss was neat and the graphics are very pretty, but that can't hold up a game by itself. If this game played as good as it looks, it'd be a great game.
A great, challenging twin stick platformer with some interesting mechanics. Fast paced with great visuals and graphics. While its challenging, the game is very quick and fast paced so I never felt stuck, just right back into the action. Definitely recommend this game to anyone that likes platformers!
Genre: -Action Platformer Fit for me: -Great fit, top 5 fav genre Pros: -I was drawn in to the bright, colorful art design and the first world looks really good -Several powerups similar to Mario powerups spice up the levels -Good balance between shooting enemies, platforming sections, and avoiding environmental hazards Cons: -Very poor basic fundamentals. Your character feels very sluggish, and jumping between walls never feels smooth. Being that the platforming is such a prominent part of this game, the basic movement and jumping mechanics need to be really good, and they just aren't. -I didn't like the 360 degree shooting radius b/c it forces you to use a mouse and use the wasd to move. It takes way too long to rotate the mouse in a 360 degree motion and just isn't necessary. Most similar games offer 8 points for shooting (Hollow Knight comes to mind) so that you can use the up-down-left-right keys to move and use wasd to shoot. It works a lot better for combining shooting and jumping between platforms. -Very generic, mediocre soundtrack. The World 2 soundtrack sounded like carnival music. -The World 2 Carnival levels felt out of place artistically. I thought that the other 3 worlds made more sense aesthetically, and I really didn't enjoy the carnival levels. -3 bugs in my 3 hrs that caused the game to shut down (All 3 times were at the end of a level in World 2). -25 levels per world is an overkill and starts to feel repetitive. 15 would have been plenty imo. Thoughts: -I really liked the overall art design I saw in the trailer and that's why I bought this. World 1 wasn't perfect, but I found it enjoyable enough to continue on. Unfortunately, all of the problems I experienced amplified in world 2. The platforming became more challenging and demanded extra precision, and the jumping and platforming felt very sluggish. Combine that w/ a less enjoyable world aesthetically, and 3 game ending bugs, and I decided that I had enough near the 15th level. I don't think recommending a gamepad is a good reason to make unintuitive keyboard controls. W/ saying all of this, Glitch's Trip has the potential to be a solid game w/ a few changes. Eliminating the bugs is the most important for sure. Then changing the 360 degree shooting to a more traditional 8 point attack. It's possible w/ just those two changes, I would have had a much better experience. Consensus: -Bottom Shelf Game (Tier 5 and makes up 10% of my reviews). This game clearly wasn't for me. If you are a pc gamer that plays on a controller and can get past some of the games shortcomings, then maybe Glitch's Trip will be a good experience for you. But I found this game very frustrating, and I didn't enjoy my 3 hrs of playtime, so I won't be recommending this.
I really enjoyed playing this game, the art and music alone were enough to keep me interested. but the mechanics themselves were introduced at a great pace and had at lease one level dedicated to the new mechanic introduced. and things then ramped up from there. Looking forward to seeing what new additions are made to the game before release. Keep up the great work guys!
this is hard
Don't usually do early access, but the art style of the game appealed to me, so I gave it a go. All in all I'm satsified so far - there's still some work to be done in the game, but it's a lot of fun and there's a lot of visual polish for the game still being unreleased. If you like a challenge, game is definitely hard. Hoping devs add an easy mode to just play and enjoy the style of the game. Also, please add achievements and trading cards!
