About
What's that sound coming from the basement....?
is the new fever dream of a game by Sad Mask Party, the twisted brains behind Mango and The Lotus Holidays. It is a surreal, elusive, highly immersive and just slightly distorted tale of mystery, friendship, romance, solitude, trying and failing, overcoming obstacles, and all around, love.
It is presented as a first person adventure, featuring atmospheric exploration, puzzles, some fun action sequences and fights, interactive dialogue, deconstructed psychology, dreamy psychedelia, a big variety of off-beat characters, terminally weird vibes and an equal mixture of horror(ish) and humorous elements. The graphics are PS1-inspired, but with a healthy dose of surrealism and liminality.
The story starts through a dream where you meet Glitch Daddy, a strange creature informing you about the world's end coming really, really soon. You go on to wake up, and embark on a wild journey where the truth will be revealed, through a series of weird, unexpected twists and turns.
Drenched in a thick vibe of nostalgia, Glitch Daddy seamlessly jumps from the memories of an idealized childhood, to a complicated adulthood, and the cosmic, deconstructed dreamscapes of a timeless oblivion.
Also, you get to kill monsters and pet doggos. ;)

its culty and cvnty at the same time
Glitch Daddy is not for those who care about gameplay, it's for people who agree with the statement that games can be art. And that's exactly what it is. It really feels like the game portion was created solely to justify the existence of the intensely creative set pieces. They're wild, colorful, surreal and the main thing that makes the experience enjoyable.
Mmmm nice... Τhat was a real glitchy experience:P Sad Mask Party keep up the good work. What's next? Maybe sth dreamier? -Sad Mask Party: "Say no more"!
I bought your entire collection of games because I liked the "The Liquid Jet" demo so much. Kind of annoyed that I had it sitting in my cart for a day as I was looking to pick up a few extra things, but then the price of the bundle randomly increased by like 8-9 dollars before the end of the Spring sale, something which normally would have felt like a big enough of an "eff ewe" to the customer for me to remove it from my cart entirely, but I guess I decided it wasn't that big enough of a deal-breaker for a bundle of games like this which are all so much different from the average fare out there. Not sure how far I am into "Glitch Daddy", but 2.2 hours in and I'm liking it a lot so far, except for the fact that I just went through a mildly tedious cave section with a lot of running back and a forth and looking for switches to hit and after finally getting through it I lasered a giant fish's bullseyes to death and then dropped down through the hole it left behind, but ended up getting softlocked by the geometry of some wires that I landed on. Couldn't get out of their grasp no matter how much I wiggled, so I had to hit the "reset level" button and sent me all the way back to the beginning of the tedious cave section before even fighting the fish so now I'm taking a break. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this game is very janky, but very weird and interesting enough for me to still give it a recommendation even though I came across a BS softlock in a somewhat annoying area and the overall price of the package increased on me randomly before the sale period was even supposed to be over. It's rare that I will still like something after coming up against such annoyances, but I really think that this dev (is it a single person or a team?) makes games that deserve to be played and deserve to be experienced despite frustrations.
I've only played the intro and one level so far and I can already tell you, if you love trippy games that you can smoke a blunt and get weirded out too, this is for you! It's a walking sim sorta game with slight "puzzles" which are more just very easy tasks you have to complete in order to advance to the next level, BUT it is also a "Choices Matter" type game as well...as you will be presented with options to do the 'right' thing or not and whatever you choose will have a different effect on how the level plays out. The visuals are insane! The colors are bright and vibrant, the glitches and running pixels are crazy trippy and there are even some kinda freaky parts in this game as well. When it first started, there was actually a moment where I questioned if it was a horror game but once you get through the intro, you can tell it's more of just a very trippy and surreal experience, whether it freaks you out or makes you laugh. The character design is great...they look like those Christmas Nutcracker things. Some characters are cool looking, some are plain looking, some are trippy looking, some are funny looking but it never gets boring finding and meeting new characters and it keeps me wanting to play more JUST to see how crazier the character and level designs get. Overall, so far it's been a fun, funny, weird, trippy and surreal experience and I literally just started the game. May give a 2nd review once finished but I DO recommend...especially for the price!
There is nothing else quite like this one! It's a long game for what it is and the thought and effort behind this is incredible.
this is so funny & bizarre omg so its a liminal exploration game with small puzzles once in awhile, but just when you start to relax the game throws something new and weird your way LOL it kept my attention so well! Really fun and trippy even though I have no idea whats going on in the story 10/10
