Not fan of helldivers and art is not to my taste, but it's really entertaining for 3-4 hours. 8/10
Fun simple run and gun. Could have been alot more. Defeated final boss 4 times but never got any completion due to game bug.
I will freely say: the little bits of story are pretty nice, infrequent as they are. The character and monster designs are appealing. I like the writing. And the final boss level is pretty cool, mostly. My gripes lie with the gameplay everywhere else. It's repeats of the same missions over and over again, with admittedly a few more new ones being introduced as you continue to progress, but they're generally all one of two camps: "Kill this one tanky enemy/crowd of fodder" or "Hit E once and run away". The exception is the sheep missions, but even those you don't really have to engage with - if the sheep die, you still win. You just get paid out less, I believe. Speaking of the payout, this game has a problem. You will almost certainly have more than enough money to buy literally everything available in the shop at any given time, and there's not a lot to buy in that regard either. Most of the weapons are simply "fun", but not necessarily "good", which is what's needed to beat the levels, so they end up getting relegated to the storage chamber only to ever be looked at in passing. The other thing you get, EXP... does nothing. Or at least not anything I could reasonably measure. It might give you more running stamina, I'm not sure, but that doesn't really help, because you can't shoot while running, and any time spent running means the mobs are spawning in more because you're not constantly thinning the herd. But shooting them doesn't work all the time, because they facetank for each other and you've not really got any recourse but to run or take the damage. And more EXP sure as hell isn't raising your damage, so it's not really making anything any easier. Every single map in the game, with a few exceptions, uses one of a handful of asset palettes, which while they do look fine, they do get old after the tenth time running through the same area of an allegedly entirely separate planet. There's no real distinction between most of them. Forest, desert, lava, the fourth one I can't remember, moon, beach episode... the one exception I can think of is the predestined "final boss" level, which has a whopping *two* themes! It's also one of the most immediately interesting levels... if only it didn't suffer from the same problems of tanky enemies in around literally every corner, even with the level-exclusive weapon. No matter what you're using, how you handle it, you are almost guaranteed to take at least one death in the final fight. Which, might I add, is also the only vaguely mechanically interesting fight in the game, everything else is just "shoot it until it dies", maybe with some occasional dodging of attacks, but the final boss avoids this in... certainly *a way*, by having invulnerability phases where she summons a ton of adds, and you have to handle those while she occasionally fires attacks at you. Certainly not the biggest departure, but it was okay. Oh right, speaking of things not getting easier: I don't think I noticed any difference from swapping between the different characters. They have unique blurbs, that vaguely imply they might have some stat differences, but gameplay-wise there's really no reason to bother spending the money aside from having them on the side of the screen while playing, because even without buying them you're able to view their outfits in the closet. Much like the levelling up, it's a mechanic that presents itself as having depth but doesn't actually have any real tangible effect. It doesn't even affect the end of level victory screen, because regardless of who you're playing as or who you have unlocked, it always just shows the normally accessible main 3 human characters, with the sole exception of the tutorial. It's a shame, because there really could have been a lot of cool stuff here, unique weapons, characters, more story beats, more interesting world design. But I can't really call it worth it. Which sucks, and I kinda do feel bad. But I have to get it out there.

Girldivers is a simple but decent shooter game. Do objectives, shoot bugs, occasionally get some sexy pictures. It succeeds at the basic goal. It has flaws, though: you can't run and shoot, making it hard to keep up with the killing while dodging shots. (Stupid purple enemies!) You don't have to guard objectives that don't involve killing, so they're just annoyances: activate and move on. There's only a couple guns that are actually improvements. That sort of thing. It was fun enough but repetitive. Is it worth it at its lowish price point, though? I recommend trying the demo first to figure that out for yourself. (It sort of reminds me of playing side-scrolling beat-'em-ups in the arcade: they were fun games, but was playing through the whole thing worth that many quarters?)
The game's actually pretty comical. The characters have pretty strong personalities and the sexy bits are fun. Mostly play for the little sprite animations heh.
Pretty good
