In Ghost Stories, it is your goal to survive an abandoned, haunted house and figure out what happened there. Figuring out the story shouldn't be that difficult, given that there are barely any notes laying around to provide a plot, but surviving is a whole problem in itself. Everything that happens in this house does so at specific set times, times that can be reached faster by using a grandfather clock to fast forward through the day. At around 9pm, a headless ghost named Max comes out to wander around and kill you if he sees you move. He goes back to bed at 9am, but within the 12 hour span there are multiple objectives to achieve. There are many problems with this game as a whole, and given that it's a Russian game filled with positive Russian reviews from people who received it for free, I'm honestly not even sure if the developer is looking for feedback at all. I got sent this game twice through Curator Connect, so in the rare event that this is a person who genuinely cares about putting out a good game, I will provide a bit of guidance. First of all, there needs to be more explanation in-game of what is happening. Without reading the store page first, players have no idea what's going on at all or how to play the game. There are only two notes explaining times that things happen; the note that tells that Max comes out at 9pm, and another note saying to meet someone in the bedroom at 4am. Hell, no one even knows who Max is without reading the store page because his name isn't actually mentioned anywhere in the actual game. Second, get rid of the awful free music that doesn't suit the mood of a horror release. Nothing in Ghost Stories comes across even remotely spooky with the music that is going on now; which is some kind of atmospheric "calm and relaxing" zen soundtrack. It's also extremely loud by default and takes over all of the sound effects. Third, and this might sound familiar, more notes. No one is going to stop at every hour's interval and survey the entire house again; it's just too boring and slow. For this type of gameplay, you're going to need to provide direction. In its current state, Ghost Stories is rather abysmal. It needs a lot of work in order for it to even be classified as a horror game, let alone something that should be purchased. There are some good ideas going on though, and subtle touches like the moving pictures is neat. However, there's nothing here that you should be spending your time on when there are so many better titles out there to take a look at.
Nice and short, but for the most part a well polished indie title. For a horror game Ghost Stories is pretty user friendly, being killed by the ghost Max only boots your progress back to the last achievement point and NOT the start of the game unlike so many other titles. The solid if dated visuals make up for the lacking audio quality and minor AI pathing issues. A fairly quick 100% with or without the posted guide, but probably not a game you'd play through again. My one gripe with GS would be in the latter half of the game where you're tasked with closing up the house. For whatever reason you must close up everything including cupboard doors left ajar - figuring this out gobbled up a ton of my overall play time and dinged this otherwise decent experience. Worth a buy on steep discount, but not full price.
A sort of horror meets hidden object adventure. You search a haunted house for items on a task list and try to get it all accomplished before the enemy AI 'Max' kills you. I found it to be fun for the price. Spoops weren't great, but the tension of the ticking clock is there where you know you need to hurry. If you're quick and lucky, you can knock this out in less than 30 minutes. For the price, it's not bad. Purchase at your own discretion, my darlings. <3
This game sucks. To summarize the game: this is only a fetch quest, you are in a little house and search for one item after another and the next item spawns only if you found the previous one, so every time you found an item, you basically have to scan the whole house again. And to make it even worse: there is a ghost hunting you, if he gets you, you are instantly dead and you spawn at the last check point. You get a check point every time you found an item. I probably died about 1000 times to this thing. (This is probably an exaggeration, but it felt like this.) Also the game is quite buggy and it has hardly any story. I also almost abandon this game, because I looked for 45 minutes and couldn't find the first item! This means I almost needed half of my play time only for the first item. They are so small and sometimes really hard to find. Not recommended at all.
The graphics are good but not special. I did get jump scared more than once but after I knew what he was going to do it was not very scary anymore, I also looked every where for that photo album and NEVER found it, I died multiple times but that did not bother me.
This game is pretty boring. It is an Item hunt, and believe me sometimes the damn items will be hard to spot. That coupled with almost no story, except for a few notes. And some headless guy that will hunt you down and kill you in one hit so you get back to the previous checkpoint. That is basically it, the optimization is poor. The map/house is small and you keep dying until you find the right item.
