Genius Calculator

Well, actually it's rather in-between review. You know, "genius calculator" isn't some fake shovelware without any gameplay interest or actual value. It's just... not quite well enough to give it a positive commentary. Obviously, Genius Calculator is a very plain minimalistic puzzle game, where you clicking the buttons and transforming one number into another, via 1-6 possible iterations and available buttons combinations. I'm not a math expert or something, but some calculations there are looking quite odd to me. Sure, it's some basic operations with the scientific calculator which everyone had to get familiar with in the schools at some point. However, I've tried to reproduce some level puzzles from this game in my scientific calculator... and the results of calculations were different! That means that while some levels you can do quite fast by actual calculating, with many other levels you just need to deal with random substitutions of options until one matches. In the end, it felt as a random button masher rather than a challenging puzzle game. Also, while the background music sounds not bad at first, it gets repetitive much faster than you'll finish even the first 10-20 levels (there are more than 100). But you can't disable the sound there! There Is a button in the menu, but it is not working. All in all, my mark is 4.5/10. Buy it only if you're in desperate need in some cheap, quick and easy to complete game.

As a math enthusiast I liked it quite a bit. [b]Note:[/b] [i]Game uses complex and uncommon math operators, and some of them in unusual ways. None of them are explained but rather just shown in action, which can be off-putting.[/i] Counter-intuitive (as compared to school) examples include: [list] [*]Integer division operator ÷ returns only the whole part of the division. E.g. 9 ÷ 2 = 4, not 4.5. [*]Remainder operator % returns the remainder of the division. E.g. 9 % 2 = 1 because 9 / 2 = 4 + [b]1[/b]/2) [/list] Maybe they should add some instructions so players wouldn't be so confused. They even use some weirder (probably invented) operators. Which is cool, because they make the puzzles more varied and interesting. [h1]100+ levels[/h1] The difficulty rating is all over the place, from utterly trivial to mindbogglingly difficult (just a couple of them though). Obviously that's just my biased opinion (full disclosure: I study physics). Towards the end I was solving a puzzle in a few seconds and thinking it'd end really soon, then ran into a puzzle that took me 20 minutes of essentially guesswork before realizing the answer. The questions sometimes have several solutions, sometimes only a carefully constructed single solution fits. Some of the puzzles felt like they were just fillers, not much thought put into their design (and I'm not talking about the obvious tutorial puzzles), while others were rough diamonds in toughness. While the former outnumbered the latter, the challenging puzzles were good enough to keep me entertained. [h1]Recommended for math puzzle enthusiasts![/h1] About 90 minutes in I had all the achievements and 100 levels beaten. Your mileage may vary depending on your math and logic skills. There were actually 104 levels. It's odd: The game abruptly ends just after introducing a new rule, like they suddenly run out of patience and just released the game. Honestly, they should have quit it at 100 and call it a day, since that would have looked more professional. For a $1 game it's good enough, as long as you like math puzzles and understand how they use math operators in this game. I had to ask for a refund for this product. Eveery other refund I've had from Steam has been for a game that wouldn't play on my OS. This was something else entirely. The math on this thing had 10% of 69 as 9? Not on my maths work it wasn't! If you're going to do a maths puzzle at least get the basics right. A waste of time.

Когда-то я любил поиграть с калькулятором. Игра заключалась в том, что я загадывал сколько знаков будет в числе или каких там будет больше цифр, а затем беспорядочно клацал по калькулятору какое-то время. Уже намного позже пошли темы в школе, которые были посвящены мини-калькулятору и как им пользоваться. Да, освоение чего-то с помощью метода научного тыка часто происходит до непосредственного обучения. Кстати, можно устроить прекрасную игру в той же школе, где с помощью калькулятора будут решаться головоломки, что в игре представлены. А что касается самой игры, то многие головоломки имеют вариативность в прохождении, ибо получить желаемое число можно, используя доступные нам действия в разной комбинации, при этом не всегда израсходуются все доступные для этого попытки. Предварительно, конечно, можно изучить что делает то или иное действие в калькуляторе, ибо предложат нам много всего, а можно и просто начать играть, обучившись в процессе, используя вышеупомянутый метод тыка. С удовольствием получил искомые числа в игре, использовав необходимые действия, пройдя все уровни и получив все достижения!

Each 10 levels a new operator type is been added, like square roots, logarithm or things you never seen before. Just play around and the solution will be near and probably an understanding what the formular does.
