This is another one of those short walking simulator games. (2.2 hours) For those days where you just feel like kicking back and chilling out to a good story, and enjoy the view of your surroundings. Achievements are straight forward and easy to get just play through the entire and you'll get them all.
I loved everything about this one except the mind numbing repetitive slog to hear each piece of poetry. I began to hate this game by chapter 5, I qave up in disgust by chapter 7.
Bought this game as soon as it came out. Hit a snag in chapter 2 that caused me to drop it for a while. Picked it up again the other day, finished all the way until the end. Game was tedious at times and too wordy, but I remembered the excerpts from the classic 'Drizzlepath: Genie'. Was also entranced by some of the visuals this time -- places worth exploring. Wish Chapter 9 was a whole game by itself, a few others. Look forward to other titles by this same author, games do surprise me.
nice game
After completing Genie, I can say I have played every game Tonguc Bodur has put out. Every. Last One. I'm pretty sure I haven't given a single other one of his games a negative review, but I cannot recommend this one. The music, environments, and voice acting are all great. But the gameplay loop...gets repetitive and uninteresting after a couple of chapters, and there are 15 chapters. The fact that this loop involves looking into a blinding white light, a light that made me physically look away every time, was utterly terrible. I muted the game audio and watched a movie while trying to earn the achievements (I had to stop because somehow one of the chapter's game audio was playing despite the master volume and all other volumes being muted). I might have actually read more of the poems if the pacing was not so slow, and if the whole poem appeared at once like most of Tonguc's games. The story was just not engaging enough to warrant the tediousness and slow pacing. I got this on sale for $0.99 and I still feel like it wasn't worth it. The story was drug out far longer than it needed to be, and not in a meaningful or engaging way like most of Tonguc's games. Get it on sale if you decide to get it at all. Honestly, just check out some of Tonguc's other games, as many of them are actually really great. Just not this one.
I really prefered the previous version so drizzlepath-genie. There the story was a journey, here it seemed more like a slideshow. There you walk a long path here you run in circles on 15 different maps. The poems were OK but they are exactly the same as in the 2016 version. Graphics was OK but not as captivating as the previous one. In other words I am not fun of this one.
First, I'm a fan of this dev's games and have played and enjoyed many of them. Genie, as with all of Bodur's games, is filled with beautiful environments to explore. And as described on the game's store page, Genie is 15 chapters of traveling through different environments, collecting shards and then locating platforms where you stand and listen to the story in poetry form. Rinse, repeat … 15 times. The dev does give you the option to fast forward through the narration and by about midway I was thankful for that option. If you haven’t tried any of Bodur’s games, I would recommend most of them if you’re a fan of the walking sim genre and if you enjoy taking screenshots; Bodur’s games are filled with lots of excellent opportunities to capture some nice shots. However, there are better options from this dev than Genie.
