Windows 98

Skipped all the hype about these games so.. Really it is more of a demo, too short to be truly enjoyed. Nevertheless, nice experience worthy of 20 minutes due to such a low price.
Sadly, very generic and has done what dozens of other games have done as well. There's no buildup in the game, the entire story is less than three paragraphs (although, I guess you can take it as the author's own commentary at the 'checklist' section noting that the story wasn't done). If you've heard of any creepypasta or horror game with the concept of 'haunted PC game with spooky developers', you'll know this game. It isn't helped by the game forcing itself to be set in 1999 - and using having late 2010s-early 2020s lingo, or a meta shoutout to the music in the game...who is an artist from the late 2010s. I feel bad giving a negative review for what's a new (and apparently young) developer's game but it really doesn't feel finished.
It looks promising but.... all these files, and programs, they literally lead nowhere. They're broken, or corrupted with no actual way to repair them, or hack into them or anything. I beat this game in half an hour. If you're thinking, like I did, that there might be layers of secrets or a cool story to unravel, don't make my mistake and find something else to play. It's way more bare bones than it's trying to appear. What you see is way less than what you get.
Short and sweet. Kind of disappointing considering how much work was clearly put into it. I think the puzzle could've been much improved if it incorporated more of the features that were already in the game. Spoilers:
The music is never used beyond characterizing Oliver, and same with the message history. The font previewer serves no purpose except to garnish the setting as a windows 98 computer. I'm not too bothered by them being red herrings, but the system feels so developed and clean! It's a shame to not see it used as a part of the game.
I think the game could be much improved with little more feature development, just by more fully incorporating the features you already have into the puzzle. I would love to see and play a sequel that does exactly that, even with very little featural improvement. It would be nice to see the paintbox be usable tho :3
Fun little game. I have to be honest that I was stuck for a while and in the end I had a hard time finding what I was looking for (not spoiling anything).
A fun little game. I was a bit disappointed that it ended so quickly as it seemed there would be a bit more to it.
