Gambol
Gambol is a very hardcore platformer with some absolutely daredevil acrobatics involved. It isn't a platformer of the traditional order, no, because you do very little actual standing or walking on platforms. Instead in Gambol you will toss and slap your balls repeatedly into the walls and ceilings to progress. Now some of you may be saying "But Cue I don't have balls" and to that I say; Bollocks! in Gambol, everyone has balls. Some balls greater and more skilled than others, but balls nonetheless.
Gameplay
On a more serious note, this is an incredibly hard and addictive little physics platformer. And holy hell I wish it had some checkpoints, but I guess that's the point. It's kind of like Getting Over It in that way where you build yourself higher and higher both physically and mentally with hype, only to feel that gut wrenching pang of defeat on that one stupid little mistake that you know you could have done better. That's essentially what gaming was in a nutshell, in the good old days of palm-sweating focus and reflexive ability. Its pure, its distilled, there's nothing but the core of hand-eye coordination and reflex here. You get three consecutive mid-air jumps to link and three only, which sounds like a lot already but when you're faced with the sheer vertical-ity of some of Gambol's tougher courses of physics defying platform madness you'll wish you had more. Slapping yourself against a wall or touching a surface in general resets these jumps and is a mandatory tool in progressing the many hazards, but all forms of obstacles will make it anything but easy to make that perfect landing on a safe strip of landscape. Balls to the wall action at its best, it just feels exciting once you get the hang of it all to fly through the air at such breakneck speed while keeping the momentum going with every skillful tap and landing of a safe platform. The feats before you are always some meticulously plotted out gauntlet of seemingly impossible leaps and vertical climbs, but the mechanics make it rather easy in execution and incredibly good at making players of just about any skill level feel like a platforming badass.
Final Thought
Gambol is a perfect example of substance over style. Sure, it may look kinda like a flash game but the visuals are just a means to communicate the precise and fleshed out platforming. Its simplicity allows for some serious pinpoint accuracy in the movement of your ball and for some outrageous creativity in the actual designs of the levels. If you don't care too much for presentation, if you're in it for the pure speed running acrobatics don't look any further for your next fix; this is gravity defying fast platforming at its best and most distilled. An extremely addictive, wall-jumping game. The mechanics are so simple, but each new world brings surprises. Tons of levels, collectables, even a hard mode. For $10, you can't go wrong. Well worth it!
This is a super cute platforming game with fun music and graphics. Some of the levels are pretty challenging for me, but in a good way, so I definitely won't be finishing this game super fast. Great for when you want a fun platformer game with upbeat music to unwind.
Затянуло прям, не могу
Gambol is the most fluid platformer I’ve ever played. The controls are so floaty while at the same time tight, you always feel in control. If you like games like Celeste/Super Meat Boy, prepare to play the first game to dethrone them.
Gambol is a super responsive platformer with good, challenging levels and great music. Even on tougher levels, I found myself trying over and over again. The *pop* Orange makes when you launch him into a spike is satisfying. I could just spend all day killing the poor ball repeatedly. Definitely look out for the secret levels!
I met some of the team of Gambol at Momocon 2018. They were very nice and offered to let me try the game. I intially wasn't interested in playing the game but once I got started I was captivated. I purchased the game that day and have found myself being sucked into the game and enjoying the whole time! Give this game a try and then you will understand!
This is one of the most addicting and fun games I have played in a long time! With its tight controls and great mechanics, the game plays like a dream! Great design, catchy soundtrack, and a decent challenge! If you're a fan of Super Meat Boy, you definitely can't miss this game!
After about 2 hours of game play.... I'm really enjoying this game! Controls feel very natural, and responsive. Levels are fun and difficult at the same time. You should pick up this fun indie game!
