Good game! Not enough contents but what's there is enjoyable. You can turn while strafing and do all those Wipeout things.
I cannot recommend it as a full game. Only single player after 2 years, still no updates. Absolutely lacking content, it's only 3 tracks long. But what it does do is prove that you can have fast motion in a VR game without instant nausea. I don't know how they do it, My guess is the whole, "using your body like a control stick" somehow fools your inner ear. Or at least it fooled mine. So it still gets a thumbs up from me, but only if you go into it knowing what you're getting.
The tutorial was fun. but the game itself has NOTHING of what's promised here/ the tutorial, no charecters, the campaign doesn't actually work, and all the races are the same
Galaxy Race, developed and published by Magic VR, is a futuristic VR-exclusive racing title that places players on hoverboard-like vehicles known as GraviDecks and propels them through neon-lit tracks across an intergalactic setting. The concept is immediately appealing to fans of sci-fi and virtual reality, blending elements of high-speed racing with arcade-style chaos. With power-ups, traps, and fast maneuvering all forming core parts of the experience, Galaxy Race strives to deliver adrenaline-fueled competition in a genre that’s still relatively underrepresented in VR. However, its ambitions are not always matched by execution, and while there’s some enjoyment to be found, the game often stumbles in its delivery. From a visual standpoint, the game presents a serviceable—if not particularly groundbreaking—aesthetic. Tracks are vibrantly colored, with stylized sci-fi backdrops and flashing indicators that attempt to communicate speed and danger. The environments include space-themed corridors, planetary landscapes, and glowing tunnels that offer a decent sense of immersion. That said, the graphical fidelity doesn’t always meet the standard that many VR players might expect. Textures can appear flat, track design lacks detail in certain areas, and some effects feel a generation behind, even when judged against other budget VR titles. The game's sense of scale and motion works well in VR, and there are moments where flying around a corner or launching off a jump feels exhilarating, but these instances are somewhat undermined by the inconsistent visual polish. Gameplay centers around using motion controls to navigate the racing tracks while dodging obstacles, grabbing power-ups, and engaging with AI opponents. Steering is handled through what the developers call “GraviMotion,” which utilizes the player’s body movements to tilt, turn, and accelerate. It’s an ambitious system that can feel immersive in theory, but in practice it often feels finicky and unreliable. Tight turns, sharp movements, or quick reactions sometimes fail to register smoothly, and the precision required to execute clean racing lines is not always achievable with the current control scheme. As a result, races can quickly descend into chaotic flailing rather than strategic maneuvering, particularly for newer players or those with less-than-perfect VR tracking setups. Using power-ups—like throwing discs, dropping mines, or activating shields—also suffers from occasional detection issues, making what should be dynamic and engaging moments feel frustratingly inconsistent. Despite its issues, Galaxy Race does manage to provide a certain amount of fun, especially in short bursts. The inclusion of a variety of power-ups adds unpredictability to races, and the AI opponents—while not particularly intelligent—create enough resistance to keep things interesting during the early races. There’s an arcade sensibility to the game’s design, which is likely intentional, and it lends itself well to casual play. Unfortunately, the overall content offering is quite limited. There are only a handful of tracks, a modest selection of characters (or “Graviators”), and no real sense of progression beyond simply racing. There are no career modes, no unlockable vehicles or track variations, and no deep customization options to speak of. After a few play sessions, it’s likely that most players will have seen everything the game has to offer. One of the major downsides is the game’s longevity. While Galaxy Race might entertain for an hour or two, it lacks the depth or variety to keep players returning. There's no robust multiplayer system, which is a missed opportunity given the competitive nature of the racing genre. Additionally, the small player base means that even if online play were included or planned, finding matches would be a challenge. The absence of community features or content creation tools means that the game's shelf life is dictated solely by the small amount of preloaded content. Some users might find value in replaying tracks to beat their own times, but without leaderboards or incentives, the drive to improve fades quickly. Performance-wise, Galaxy Race fares relatively well, particularly considering its low price point. The game runs smoothly on mid-range VR systems and is lightweight enough to avoid major framerate issues, which is essential in maintaining VR comfort. However, motion sickness may still be a concern for players sensitive to rapid movement in virtual space, especially since the controls often require exaggerated motions to properly steer. The lack of comfort options like adjustable turning speeds, vignetting, or seated play may also limit its accessibility. That said, for experienced VR users with solid setups, the game delivers a decently responsive experience with relatively few bugs or crashes reported. At its current price, Galaxy Race is budget-friendly, and for that reason alone, it may appeal to VR enthusiasts looking for something new to toy around with. It's not trying to compete with AAA racing sims or polished indie darlings—it feels more like a proof-of-concept or a side project that found its way to market. There’s value in that kind of scrappy ambition, and for players who enjoy niche titles or who are willing to forgive rough edges in favor of novelty, the game might provide a few hours of chaotic enjoyment. However, it’s important to go in with realistic expectations. This is not a full-featured VR racer with depth and balance. It’s more of a lightweight, arcade-style distraction, with a few neat ideas wrapped in a somewhat clunky execution. In conclusion, Galaxy Race has its moments. The premise is strong, and the novelty of racing through space on a hoverboard using your own body to steer is inherently appealing. But the game’s minimal content, unreliable control scheme, dated visuals, and lack of progression systems hold it back from being anything more than a short-lived novelty. It might be worth trying for the curious or those seeking a quick VR thrill, but it’s unlikely to satisfy players looking for a refined, competitive, or long-lasting racing experience. There’s a foundation here that could be built into something more, but in its current form, Galaxy Race is a reminder that ambition alone isn’t enough—it also takes polish, depth, and clarity of vision to create something truly memorable in the VR space. Rating: 6/10
Game mechanics need polish to be playable. Good start if they can make controls more simple would be a fine game for some but mostly unplayable at this stage. Update needed!
