A great game in the netting of space, with fascinating gameplay and good graphics, just as there are levels of difficulty in the game, which also adds intteres.
My first impressions here https://youtu.be/KErWxLurD2M I love the arcade feel of the game. You got the power up and the health. The tons of waves of enemies and bosses. Graphics look damn good and clean. Music isn't trash at all. Personally this is a huge improvement to Space Pirate Trainer. It's more colourful, more fun, cooler and graphically superior in every way. Many difficulty levels to keep it hard. More modes coming like endless and co-op. And when these arrive they will be free I believe. The price is on the high side and is my only negative. I can recommend this at a sale price now, but would love to see a reasonable price.
Galactic Rangers VR is an exciting VR first-person shooter where you will find yourself in space as a galactic Ranger who sweeps away everything and everyone on his way! Gameplay at a high level: a variety of locations and weapons (from missiles to lasers!) will not let you get bored! The game is very dynamic and interesting, so I recommend it to buy all owners of VR-helmets!
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program to review this game You can view my gameplay & initial impressions review of the Pre-Release version here (game has been updated since and my review below mentions those differences): https://youtu.be/7ffa3FEgJlI I cannot recommend this game at the currently listed price. It's not a bad game per se, however, there are much better SPT clones out there, also the original Space Pirate Trainer (which is better in every way than this game). There's this reviewer featured on the store page that says this game is a combination of SPT & Beat Saber ... this game is NOT a combination of SPT and Beat Saber as it has nothing to do with a music rhythm game or any gameplay from Beat Saber. It is simply a SPT clone that isn't as good as the original. It doesn't have to be better. I could totally go for a more arcade version of SPT. This game has a nice start. This honestly feels like an Alpha Build where more content is planned to be added in the future ... but the content that is there right now doesn't justify the current asking price. You're on a moving platform. You dodge, block, or shoot enemy projectiles. There are a few different types of enemies. You can shoot certain enemies to get upgrades. You start out with handguns and can shoot upgrades for a faster repeating shot, lasers, shotguns, missiles (looks better on update), or health / shields. As you go along things get more frantic until you get to the final boss fight. I finished the main game on normal in 23 minutes. In my video, I experienced frame rate drops, but that seems to have patched and I didn't experience that on my playthrough today with the updated game. However, there's still just one episode. The listed episodes 2 and 3 are not available. They did add a defense mode. The defense mode is basically a 180 wave shooter where all the same enemies come at you from a single location. No more moving platform. There is no boss fight. Just the same mini-boss fight that you saw several times in the normal episode 1 campaign. Rate 4.5/10. The price is just way too high. If this were priced lower, I would give it a barely positive review. In my opinion, this game only has like $5 worth of content if I'm being generous. I think the devs plan to add future content, but I have to review the game at the current price with the current content available.
Can Galactic Ranger stand out from the sometimes confusing pile of wave shooters and even compete with the king of the genre Space Pirate Trainer? Well, Galactic Rangers does kind of feel like a throwback to the early days of VR. It's just a pretty typical wave shooter. We're standing on a platform are equipped with two multi-purpose weapons that can turn into shields when needed. (A bit awkward with the index controllers). Now, of course, it's a matter of dodging waves of enemies, deflecting their shots with the shields, and eliminating them impressively. Those familiar with King will quickly find their way around Galactic Ranger VR. The big difference from Space Pirate Trainer, and actually most wave shooters, is that in Galactic Rangers the platform we stand on and shoot is more like a skyboard. We are standing firmly on the platform, but on it we fly through a huge space battle or around larger ships and space debris while shooting at nasty space pirates who even try to board our skyboard in melee combat.... This works really well and is immersive, you feel like you are in the middle of a huge battle. This all happens in the story mode, which unfortunately doesn't seem to be quite finished yet. The variety in the levels pushes the story forward and really enhances the otherwise boring genre and makes the game much more lively and dynamic. As in other wave shooters, there are goodies to collect, such as weapon updates or slowmo etc.. This is achieved by simply shooting the icons dropped by the enemy. The biggest drawback, which can spoil the gameplay a bit, is the poor tracking. My left hand often drifted away and I could only bring it back by using the trigger several times. In combat, this is sometimes a bit awkward. For example, you shoot blindly in one direction, then move the shooting hand in another direction without looking. The hand does not follow and shoots at the old target. If you move the weapons quickly, there can also be delays, or when you try to activate the shields. The activation of the shields is controlled by the grip key, which is very badly solved in Knuckles. If you want to grab your weapon properly, you automatically activate the shield. Index owners will probably have to shoot with flying hands. Graphically, Galactic Rangers VR isn't the best either, but the levels are very detailed and there are some great effects to admire, although everything looks a bit blurry. There are also no settings in the game to improve the graphics. All in all, Galacitic Rangers VR is fun, but the story is quickly played through and the way it is presented makes it stand out in the genre. After that, not much new. 👀Fly with me through the wormhole to my Curator page.
Really, really, like this game. It's the perfect game for VR, makes you feel like you've been pulled inside an 80's arcade game. Playing on the Quest via Oculus Link, it freezes a lot (total loss of data between headset and pc, game continues to play, so it's just too much data for the cable I believe) and I have a substantial rig that can handle anything. Playing via wireless (Virtual Desktop) no freezes, but there is lag when the screen gets real busy. Overall, it's one of the best games I've played in VR.
1st Impressions Video with Commentary // Oculus Rift S // GTX 1060 (6GB): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RceqDbSx0w I want to recommend this but, not at this price! (The developer has responded so I will change this to positive if they deliver) My Initial Impressions: I enjoyed it but just saw the price! - I mention in my video that I would pay £1 to play this in the arcades, so unless this is the type of game you are going to play numerous times, I would not recommend the game at this price. It looks like the game is going to be episodic and you current only get 1 Episode (4 levels + Boss) If you are going to get Episodes 2 and 3 for the initial price, then I would consider this a thumbs up. Its a very competent shooter and very similar to Space Pirate Trainer, it has great action and some spectacular backdrops.
pro's - music - more diversified than space pirate trainer con's - motion sickness due to platform moving and turning - not always clear what you have to do (yes shoot but where, why?) - bosses sometimes seem to shoot but nothing "comes out" - the shields activate when pressing the index handle, that is confusing, most of the time the pop up when not wanted, and sometimes they don when needed - lasers can slice huge asteroids, but not ninja's? overall for me space pirate trainer is more engaging, better workout (needs more dodging)
Galactic Rangers VR.
