I finished the game shortly after the release and REALLY liked it but I was too lazy to write a review back then. After finishing Broken Reality, I’ve been waiting for another game like that for SO long. And, to be honest, this one got kind of close, just not as strange as I wanted. Recently, I noticed there was a February update that added level selection which excited me to replay some of the levels and so... I ended up enjoying it A LOT all over again. Now I finally feel like talking about the game itself. The movement is the best part for sure. That bunny hop flow feels smooth as hell. Once you get going, just moving around is satisfying enough already. The visuals are super nice and the audio is wonderful - that is what pulled me in. I was really hoping for more weird surreal absurd stuff though. In addition, it would be perfect to have some achievements and secondary goals along with the main plot. But nah, that's okay anyway, really wish all the best to the developer and hope they will create an even better game in the future.
Now, first I want to speak on gameplay alone: This game feels like the logical extension of minecraft parkour. It's wonderful, beautiful, and probably some of the best jumpy gaming I've ever had. Now, for the everything else. Normally I would write complex list of things, but I think this is the second game I would ever fully consider as art. There's no objective things I can point to, I can only call it one very very good experience I will demand others experience for themselves. also its woke and gay official cynthia spreadsheet ranking 12/10
Peak bnuy girl and imp lady. Best girl friends. The music is honestly a sleeper hit. Cute and charming characters and simple but meaningful story. 10/10
It's a bnuy simulator! The soundtrack for the game is an actual hidden gem though. I had a lot of fun with the platforming with the hopping mechanic as it's easy to get under control. The aesthetic for all the stages are very groovy overall~ I loved it!
I want to say this as nicely as possible, this game genuinely hurts my eyes. The bloom in the starting area is VERY bright, and it gets even worse when bunny hopping, to the point that it's a flashbang every time you press E. It's also very slow, sometimes it felt like i was at 15FPS while playing, which I'm not sure is entirely the fault of my machine, since I can play other more demanding games just fine. This lag and extreme brightness doesn't help at all when you're asked to do precise platforming right from the get-go. Nonetheless, the two songs I've listened to from this game are really good, and the art direction does seem interesting (aside from the brightness problems).
Overall, I really enjoyed FUNKYHEART. This is a groovy 3D first-person platformer, with a neat bunny-hopping mechanic (you literally play as a bunny girl) that allows you to move faster, but you can't control your jumps. It's great for moving around quickly and jumping over bigger gaps. The dev's other game, Funky Panic Attack, is free, short, and it has the same mechanics, humour and vibes, so I recommend you playing it first, to see if you want to buy this one. But, before I explain why I liked this game, there are some flaws I want to get out of the way first: Most levels are very vast and empty, so it takes a while to get to any point of interest without bunny-hopping. Characters and platforming sections are often very spread out, and there isn't much of anything interesting to look at in between. The environment is often bland, uninteresting and made up of just random terrain and floating blocks. Some colours are quite ugly to look at too. A lot of the platforming is easy, but some sections are suddenly way more challenging, just for the next one to be easy again. Besides some extra levels and some hidden collectibles, there isn't much replayability to this short game. And the difficulty of some of these extra can be too funky for my heart. The sound mixing in this game is very bad. Some music and sounds feel normal, but others are very loud or quiet. Most dialogue is low volume, can barely be heard, but then, random sentences are loud as hell. This means that adjusting the settings sliders doesn't fix the issue, because the volume for each sound is so random. Besides, these sliders seem to reset all the time. I like recurring jokes, but some of this game's jokes feel a bit overused. I also wish that at least some of the NPC's would say something more interesting, instead of only nonsensical jokes.
But now, time for the good stuff:
Even if some of the jokes don't land at all, the humour is still great, overall. I like this random quirky ENA inspired kind of humour and vibes. Although some environments don't look good, the whole aesthetics and themes of the game are pretty neat. Your character's movement and controls are pretty groovy too. It's pretty fun to use the movement mechanics to get elsewhere quickly! There are some checkpoints spread around the levels, and most of them are pretty fair. Its story is interesting and kinda mysterious, and you get to learn bits of it throughout the campaign. Surprisingly, the ending is kinda uplifting and wholesome, especially considereing it takes obvious inspiration from that one
underwater horror game, with the saddest ending of any game ever
. The story happens in the same universe as Funky Panic Attack, which means you get to find some characters from that game too (like Luna!!). Most of these cheracters are quite fun, and I like most of their silly designs (specially when Bunn turns into a photorealistic bunny). Some dialogues are voice acted too, and I really like their voices, since they fit the characters pretty well (I just wish I could hear them better). Finally, there's the music. It's peak, I love it. The music in the game is bloody great! In conclusion, this game has a lot of flaws, and it's pretty short for its price. Does that mean I regret paying for it? Hell no. I love the world that the dev created, along with its characters, vibes and specially the music. This game has a lot of room for improvement, so I hope the dev can use the money to keep making even better games with these same amazing vibes!
ya i like thius game too just like i like othher games that i like i like the ribbit and the very fun play game i enjoy this game its good or more so it peak just i like the tall mountain in the games mountains have peaks becuaase you climb them and if they didnt then you would get tirrd and cant climb anymore becuase the mountain has no peak so there so stopping the climbing
I really wanted to like this, i found it through Nico Bellisario's song and thought the art style was very pretty, but the performance is absolutely atrocious for something in this scope, atleast give a video settings menu if you're not gonna do any optimization. I hope to be able to come back and play this someday when the performance is better.
very fun and good looking game. gameplay feels smooth, tho sometimes a little too smooth, like you run in buttershoes. music is FANTASTIC!!! really well done! the story... is interesting, but the ending was very cryptic which made it kinda unsatisfying. 7.5/10
i am in love with this game, it has so much charm and its really fun, but please, someone optimise this game
