This animated short is about the same quality as Google's Spotlight Stories Shorts that we no longer get on Steam. That is to say good quality animation and sound. The story is emotional and tugs at you, especially if you have children, but also if you think of your parents. It is somewhat strange and has sci-fi elements. I always said I would be willing to pay for the Spotlight shorts and here is the chance to pay for something similar and support this DEV. It is worth the full price, IMO. Make sure to switch the language to the one you want before starting, because it is default on Korean. Recommend 9/10
Experienced on the Oculus Rift
This is a 13 minute long, purely cinematic experience. You only need motion controllers at the start, to change language from Korean to English and press start or quit (although it quits automatically at the end so it's strange that it's there). It's running on the Unreal Engine and it is voiced in English. This is a weird sci-fi story. The visuals are absolutely amazing. It's a mix of cartoon-type models, mixed with almost realistic backdrops & 3D models and environments. Visually, this is triple A quality stuff. Seeing the cartoony-looking characters mixed with the realistic looking environments is odd though. The scales are off in some of the scenes though (characters are way too big or 3D models are way too small relative to the surroundings). The story was just okay for me. It's not the quality of Google story-telling. I just found it plain weird and the ending was like WTF to me. The voice acting was nice, nothing special. I think the story was too short and it just didn't allow for the needed depth to this sci-fi mystical tale. Due to a scene involving death, I'm not sure this is appropriate for little kids. Overall, I do think this is overpriced for what it is. Almost $7 USD for almost 13 minutes of entertainment. Gloomy Eyes was $9 USD, but it's 30 minutes long. However, I got this on sale for $3.49 USD and that seems like a justifiable price (although still on the high side). Ideally, it would only be normal price of $2-3 max. This is a better value proposition (and higher production values too IMO) though than Follow The Rabbit, which is by the same dev! Rate 5.5/10. Nice overall, just too expensive IMO.
Enjoyed and recommend. Bought on sale for $2.79, great price. I think the $7 full price tag is reasonable if you're not strapped for cash, just understand it's a short film (~12 minutes). The developers/storytellers clearly have experience telling stories in VR. This story is short and sweet, but what really brings it to life is the creative visual storytelling utilizing the VR medium. It's very well done, with beautiful and interesting and fun visual moments that are synthesized with the story. The english voice acting is a little dull, but not bad, and it does its job. I actually liked this enough that I watched it twice in a row (back to back), first in English then in Korean (which I do not understand) to hear it in its original language. I expected to just watch the first minute to get a sense of how it sounds in Korean, but ended up watching the whole thing over. I'm sure I'm not the best judge since I don't speak/understand Korean, but it seemed to me the Korean voice acting was more organic and emotive, so for my fellow non-Korean-speakers, I do recommend watching it again in Korean after you've watched it in English! I also suspect the last lines work better in Korean than in the English translation, which comes off a bit sideways. Lovely experience.
Nice short story, beautiful visuals.
