I picked up this game because I'm a helpless frog lover and I fell for the art style of this game at first sight, and even bought other copies for my friend. Unfortunately after actually playing it, it feels like yet another beautiful but useless game. Typical case of gorgeous art doing most of the marketing, specifically baiting frog lovers into buying it, while the actual game underneath just isn't very good. Despite being a game about frogs and creature collecting, progression is tied to minigames and quests, and the guidance is vague and unclear enough that it's very easy to get stuck even at the beginning. For me the most ridiculous example is the bug-catching mechanic. It uses the familiar setup of a cursor, a meter, and a green success zone, with different bugs having green zones of different sizes and positions. So when you see a minigame like this, how do you assume it works? A. Click once to make the cursor start moving, then click again when it reaches the green zone. Success! B. Keep the cursor inside the green zone for a certain amount of time until a meter fills up, like fishing in Stardew Valley. The answer is Neither. Instead you have to start dragging the cursor from the far left and essentially race against the moving indicator, releasing it inside the green zone to succeed, which means that if your gaming intuition tells you that it works like option A, then you literally cannot catch anything, because clicking already ends the attempt. You have to drag. If my explanation sounds confusing, then well yeah, because I didn't understand what the hell I was supposed to be doing either. If the dev says no it's not like that, then that's exactly why I say the guidance is vague and unclear. And considering this is a frog-raising game where catching bugs is presumably going to be a frequent activity throughout the entire game, having to perform this extra cumbersome input every single time feels awful. And then another example is that, when frogs visit your forest and leave gifts behind, you'd naturally assume those gifts would appear somewhere in the actual game world, probably near the places where the frogs were just hanging out. But actually they're in the menu! Even finding the menu itself isn't particularly intuitive, and the quest doesn't give you any obvious highlight or indication of where to look. That's quite strange that you just had an interaction with a frog inside the game world, yet the gift it left behind stored inside something that very obviously belongs to the software interface, rather than the world itself? Beyond whether the minigames, quest guidance, or main story are individually well designed, I honestly have a more basic question: Do they even need to exist in this game in the first place? Surely you don't actually think people are coming here because they're fascinated by your minigames, your background lore, or your linear story progression? No. They're here because the art is cute and the theme is frogs. That's it. The creature-collecting aspect would honestly work better if the game leaned much more toward an idle or low-pressure structure. Players who want to leave the game open and take photos could do that. And those who want to check in occasionally, collect gifts from frogs, decorate a bit, and leave again could do that too. While playing Frog Island, I was already getting annoyed at the very beginning listening to the character ramble about the backstory. I just wanted the dialogue to end fast so I could finally see the frogs. To be honest, there are far too many indie devs these days who don't seem to understand what their own game's actual appeal is. They may not be especially good at designing gameplay or creating stories, but still seem convinced that their game is full of brilliant ideas. They attract players through good art and a very specific aesthetic or theme, only to put it behind progression systems, achievements, minigames, and mandatory sequences. Of course I prefer better gameplay, yet game design is not something that can be learned or fixed overnight, so at this point I think the better approach would simply be to reduce the burden on the player. If frogs are the reason people came here, then just don't put that much unnecessary obstacles between the player and the frogs. Under the game's current framework, the easiest change that would most significantly improve the experience would be adding an option in the settings to allow players to skip all minigames with one toggle.

Overall this is a very cute game. I love the little froggies and the cute little atmosphere. I do, however, wish they had more accessibility settings. I have severe arthritis in my hands and joints, and many of the minigames as it stands are completely inaccessible to me with no ability for me to actually turn off some of these things. I wish they had the option like Core Keeper or Celeste. So for that reason, I can't say that I'd fully recommend it. :\
I've been waiting for this game's release for a long, long time- and I was very honored to help with beta testing the game. I've been waiting since then to be able to leave a review for the full release- and I'm very excited to finally be able to do so. That aside- Frog Island is genuinely a gorgeous game, with a lot of visible love and care put into it. I know the word "cozy game" is often over used when talking about games, but Frog Island is genuinely one that fits that category and does it well. The music is soothing, and while there are certainly some challenging puzzles and minigames, the gameplay itself is really calming. It delivers on its premise perfectly- Frog Island is a cozy game about befriending frogs on an island. It contains a lot of the staples of games like it- farming, fishing, cooking, etc- while it isn't a game just about these things, they're there. It's also got a very cute decorating system! That was a highlight for me at least. The frogs themselves also have fun minigames to bond with them too! And the story is very charming, though I did admittedly cry at some parts. This game means a lot to me, but even beyond the biased feelings I have towards it, it's a beautiful game, and if you want something for under ten dollars (USD at least) to enjoy, it's well worth the price- I hope you'll fall in love with it too. If I could buy a copy for myself instead of being given one I'd gladly do so- guess I'll just have to buy a friend a copy, instead. Enjoy your adventure out there, guys :]
DO NOT BUY *if you have tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, etc. This game is non stop clicking! Click bushes and trees to shake them, snails like five times to pick them up, shells to collect them. Click every frog once to go into their menu, once to chat, several times in each mini-game. Navigating through the seed bag menu is more unnecessary clicking.. Click click click!!! I wish there was an accessibility option or the ability to bind some of the left click interactions to a key on my keyboard. As it stands, it really isn't a game I can play as it starts flaring my RSI up within the first few minutes because of the frequency of clicking. Very sad as the game is super cute...
A game you’ll want to “hop” into for some relaxing, cozy downtime. Care for all the cute frogs, decorate their home, cook, fish, explore and so much more.
Gameplay & Settings
🐸Accessibility options added! Assisted minigames, reduce motion, colorblind settings, and dialogue speed. Hit “customize” under assisted minigames to make fishing, bug catching, cooking and frog care a lot easier. 🐸 Contiue to play once the main story is done! Endless playtime to collect all the frogs, fish and bugs as well as get those last achievements. 🐸To save your game you must go to bed (return to home). The game updates and saves when you rest. Once you’ve slept and it rolls over to the next day you can exit safely. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3794877950 Settings & extras include; language selection, hud (on or off), zoom speed, camera sensitivity, audio controls, display mode, cursor style and size, resolution and accessibility options.
The Visuals & Audio
This game is too cute. Adorable artwork, colorful areas and cute animations. The music is relaxing and as you progress the story you will see some animated cutscenes. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3794878008
Overall Experience
I love this game and am totally addicted to it. I take credit for getting a few friends addicted too. It is so cozy and cute. There is so much to do in the game. I finished the story campaign after almost 30 hours. I admit I love to fish in-game and experiment with cooking. How much time you spend doing each activity is up to you. Once you feel you’ve completed your day just head home and sleep to save your progress. There are plenty of guides to help you with various parts of the game if you get stuck. I highly recommend this game. A wholesome, enjoyable experience for everyone. 💚

Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one. had the honor of playtesting this game, and in my opinion its one of the best games in its genre. interacting with frogs is fun, gameplay loop satisfying with well-designed minigames, visuals and vibe very cozy, and music is great. the main story and frog dialogue is also well-written and enjoyable. it's been a treat to watch this game grow, thank you devfrog!

First ... Okay I'll do an actual review, sorry.
Frog island is the best creature collector game I have ever played
Admittedly I have played very few, however I have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences in this game's community and while playtesting the game (Yeah, maybe take my review with a grain of salt).
Pros
The gameplay is very varied! To do things like cook, fish or catch bugs, you have to complete minigames, I've found these minigames to be quite unique when compared to each other and I've also found them all to be quite satisfying. Especially the fishing minigame! There are so many little things to do that I wouldn't be surprised if I missed one in my playthrough. The frogs are cute! This kind of goes without saying but the frogs, being the main focus of FROG island, are very fun to interact with, there are lots of ways to interact with the frogs that can pop up (Cleaning and feeding as two examples). And the amount of frogs that can visit your decorated area and befriend you is large enough to keep you busy filling out your compendium for quite a while. Another thing to keep you busy is all the decorations and toys that are available! It's so much fun creating environments for all the froggos to visit with all the different items you can put on the island :D My decorations bring all the frogs to the island.
Con (Just the one)
I wish there was more space that frogs can visit, as of now it's just the forest clearing, you can also decorate the farm area where the player lives but frogs don't visit there. And you can't decorate the other areas. I do think that's enough but it would be a nice bonus to be able to have frogs able to visit other areas too!
Final Notes
I'd recommend Frog Island to players who enjoy cozy games, creature collection games, simple farming games etc etc, the list goes on! Honestly, as long as you don't exclusively play Call of Duty, Resident Evil and GTA, I think you'll like this a little bit at the very least.
frog island is one of the best frog games i have ever found. i have been waiting for this game to be released for so long. i played through the demo. this game has a interesting story line. the main play of the game is very fun and chill but there is always lots to do. it will keep you very busy. you get to clean and feed the frogs. dress em up in little outfits. you get to fish and explore the island and unlock new parts of it. thank you to the creators who have made this amazing game.
