At the turn of the century, Fritz fascinated the chess world with victories over Garry Kasparov and then-reigning World Champion Vladimir Kramnik. The "most popular chess program" offers you everything you will need as a dedicated chess enthusiast.

This is a stripped down version down to being barely usable. Good: It's a strong chess engine that adapts to play and gives you opportunities. Bad: If you hope to play a game and then get fritz to analyze the game and help you improve, forget it. Unless you want to restart the game in a dedicated analyze mode, it wont help you. The whole analysis tab is simply reoved from the user interface. You can try to reach bits and pieces of the analysis by right click menus here and there that they forgot to remove. You can save the game and reload it as a historical game to be analyzed, but it's blatantly clear that they want to penalize you for having bought the cheaper steam version.
Archaic program with an UI from before 2010 I am a novice chess player who likes to toy with chess computers, hold databases and unleash analyses on my played games. Fritz 17 doesn't do this better than Chessmaster 9000 did fifteen years before it. I barely see any improvement over it, so this must be all about the power of the Fritz computer, and that is not enough for me. There is no integration with any chess site to automatically upload your games, and the one site that is included doesn't work via the Steam edition. An absolete program. I don't play online so none of those features matter to me. However I do not recommend this version. It does NOT have full gpu support as it's missing a critical feature for raytracing. DX12 Raytracing has been inexplicably left out. The full versions that you can buy at the chessbase store, have this. Whether or not this is a mistake or intentional, as to not give you the full experience, is beyond me. I have a powerful rig. With an 11gb 2080ti and 10 core CPU. Meaning you cannot, I repeat, cannot use an RTX gpu with this. Instead you're forced to raytrace with intel graphics. It lags horrifically. What?! How chessbase can ship this version without such a critical feature is insane. But back to my point, I think this was done on purpose, to push you into buying the real version from their store.
This sucks - you cannot play it offline. Once I found this out after playing for a total of 45 minutes (or so) I asked for a refund. The refund was refused because I was over some two week limit. DO NOT BUT THIS IF YOU NEED TO PLAY CHESS OFFLINE.
This is an excellent learning tool, I am not that great a chess player, and personally can't get close to beating Fritz, even when I cheat I can't win. But if I want to know a good move from any position, Fritz seems always to give me the best move, (not that I would know) but best move I can come up with for sure.
This is a really good, professional tool for those who know how to use professional chess software. I am sure that the majority of those who wrote bad reviews for this game did not read the manual for this game even once. This version has the main features of the full version, but costs almost 5 times less and sometimes even has a discount! Also, this release of the program works very stably; after 100 hours of use, no lags, freezes or glitches were noticed.
Para quem gosta de Xadrez... Muito fino
Excellent chess game. Use daily to progress. Don't forget to activate the advanced options.
