If I understood the story correctly, this game's story is a little bit genius. But, it's a little confusing, and it's possible I'm interpreting it completely wrong. The gameplay is not groundbreaking, it is more like a story-driven JRPG boss-rush game; there are no random encounters, no repeatable fights, just a couple dozen-ish (20-24) mandatory encounters and a few optional ones. I like the gothic lovecraftian setting, depressing atmosphere, and there's a couple great, moving musical pieces in it as well. It's a novelty to have such a strange protagonist, and it's hard to describe anything about the story without ruining some aspect of it. I enjoyed it, and do recommend it, although, I'm not sure many people would enjoy it.
This might be the only RPG Maker game that I fully recommend even though I can't finish it! I find this game to be really awesome, a mix of deep story, good character development, amazing artwork and music, and a creepiness you can't really find replicated. The battle system has some interesting ins and outs, and I found myself really thinking about character leveling and balancing equipment with needs. That being said, I can't finish the game because it's too hard. I made the mistake of picking Challenge Mode first thing, and I don't think it's possible to finish it without having a New Game+ or two under your belt. The final few battles are, frankly, an impossible step up in difficulty, and as I had rarely needed to use items during the game I assumed it was okay to focus on equipment and have a few of each item on hand just in case. Still, if you just have patience and play the game normally at least once or twice so you have 30+ of the HP/MP/KO restoration items, I imagine it should be doable. Especially since you can max out all the characters in one go in Challenge Mode. I just don't have the willpower to go back to an earlier save before the gauntlet of tough fights just to buy more medicine and less clothing. Maybe I'll revisit this at some point down the road, once I feel like giving this a shot again. In the meantime, I guess I'll never know the ending. Thanks anyway, awesome game that I fully recommend despite the deeply unbalanced finale. Edit like thirty minutes later: In true me fashion, I got lucky and managed to kill off the final boss. The ending is just as beautiful as the rest of the game. Fully-fully recommended.
pretty fun and interesting story
Linear, but captivating!

I played the game for 9 hours straight, and was up for nearly 24 hours solely to beat the game in one session. I plan to play through the game again. I love the aesthetic, the music is stellar, and I enjoyed the story. The puzzle-like combats are cool and engaging, though the game is not particularly difficult (and I was playing on the highest difficulty). Honestly, I don't really have any complaints or gripes with the game... Well, there was that one fight where my entire party got stunlocked, but it didn't really bother me lol Little warning for anyone on the fence about buying it, Frail Hearts is pretty much a visual novel with rpg mechanics. Personally I loved that, but it probably isn't for everyone.
I don't understand the intro, much more the storyline.
