*Disable Steam Overlay for this game is a must and check In the first 1.5 hours of playing my game crashed 3 times, and went through different settings and things trying to figure out what was going on, and barely even got to race in that time, as the game/driver kept crashing when I would try to race. I realized the Steam was crashing as well when the crashes would happen, and would have to restart Steam every time I went to relaunch FM. So, I disabled the Steam overlay, and after that I played for another 1.5hrs problem free. Hope disabling the overlay fixed the major issue that was causing crashes. Will report back if it doesn't. Update: I have had only 1 crash in the last 14 hours of play, so a lot better, and it was a soft crash, not a full system lock up and driver crash. The games performance has been good with the overlay being disabled. *IF FPS is stuck at half your monitors refresh rate, go into "Advanced Video" settings, and go down to "Performance Target", then select "Unlocked". I then went into my AMD Adrenaline software and turned on Enhanced Sync with both options in Chill set to 144FPS. After that, and tuning some graphics settings down from ultra to high, I get a pretty consistent 143FPS in game. Been playing Forza since the original on the OG Xbox. Missed out on 7, and heard it was the best in the series. Played FM on Xbox Gamepass long ago when it first released (73hours), and it wasn't in the best shape, but it was fun. Swore I would never purchase another game through Xbox, and finally decided to get it on Steam on the 50% off sale. I thought I would be starting again from scratch, but I was pleasantly surprised that my progress from playing through Gamepass carried over through to the purchase of the Steam version. 10/10 WORST AI DRIVERS I have ever experienced in a racing game. Ai could certainly use a rework, as they feel very robotic like they are driving on rails, and will do everything they can to keep to that line. Even if that means completely wiping you out, or sticking to you while your driving sideways down a straight. They just completely ignore your presence. That's a good and bad thing, as it makes them predictable, but boring, and extremely frustrating at times. The AI will stick to you like a magnet if you touch them. Great game to play using a controller, and found the Xbox controller really does provide the best feedback in the triggers for feeling your traction and brakes. Also a great game on a sim rig setup. I run Fanatec specifically, and feedback feels great after a little tweaking.
Overall I think this is a good racing simulation game. There are pitfalls and negatives about the game that I will discuss below but it's still a good (not the greatest) car racing game for the PC. I would say this is a modern day PC equivalent to the Gran Turismo series that will likely stay a PlayStation console exclusive. The car selection is big enough but wished there were some more cars that weren't included. The modeling of the each car is not 100% accurate in some cases to the real life counter-parts but that's me nitpicking. Some things you would notice is, for example, the 1970 Z28 Camaro's factory wheel size looks a little too big. Or maybe on a different car the interior is not the one for that model year but they modeled it after that because it's "close enough". Another thing that bugged me is some cars they didn't model the engine bay or trunk to be opened up when you're viewing the car. Only the doors open for the interior. I don't know if it was a budget or time issues where they couldn't find enough information or see a real car in-person to model it after. As for the actual racing mechanics, I think it's a good simulation. I played mostly with the interior first-person driving view. It's fun to drive cars that you would never get a chance to in real life through this game. Like driving a dream car like an imported Nissan Skyline R34 or a classic muscle car from the early 70s. The driving itself with those cars seems to be realistic. For example, driving the stock 70' Camaro it only has 4-speed and that's how it was in real life. The interior point of view driving is very immersive that after a while you think you're really in the car and start moving your body to anticipate the force going through a corner. Another thing is there aren't that many race series to compete in for Career mode. I don't really want to do Free Play (that's racing on any track with any car you own) for some of the cars I have brought in the game. One example is they don't have a general muscle car race series since I wanted to race the 70' Camaro in career mode. Or maybe I haven't looked hard enough at the locked races but didn't see any that would allow that car. Another example is to have a racing series for low powered 4 cylinder cars and not just restrict it to only Hatchbacks. Other reviews have mentioned connection issues and that even for Career mode (single player) you need to be connected to the Xbox cloud for it. Those I've experienced as well but not that much. Since this is a Xbox game it's mandatory to create a PC Xbox account to even get to the main menu of this game. That's one negative. I played and tested the game on two different PCs. One high-end PC and then an entry-level PC that doesn't "officially" meet the minimum CPU requirements. The graphics are stunning if you have a high-end PC with a mid-range or high-end GPU. With maxed out raytracing settings the car models look super realistic. Now for the entry-level PC that was hooked up to a 4K TV, the game makes it mandatory to have a CPU with 6 cores or more. This other PC I have has a 4-core CPU and I continually get the popup saying my CPU is unsupported. However, the game does run and launch without any issue on that 4-core CPU computer so I think it's not good they put a blanket requirement that anything below 6-cores is unsupported. The loading times are slow but once it loads there's steady and stable gameplay. I ran it with medium/default settings locked to 60FPS and used DLSS to upscale to 4K on the entry-level PC. Ran perfectly fine and stable but the graphics quality at this point is comparable to playing on the console. Maybe slightly worst but I don't have an Xbox to test against.
