A solid action-tower defense game in the vein of Sanctum or Iron Brigade. The RPG elements are light but addicting and the gameplay is simple and easy to pick up for quick multiplayer. It may not be the best in the genre but it's a great entry point or just fun for those looking for something new.

Fortified feels like someone watched every cheesy 1950s alien invasion movie imaginable and then decided to turn it into a co-op tower defense shooter. Honestly? That alone already gives it more personality than a lot of games in the genre. The first thing that grabbed me was the presentation. The retro comic-book art style, dramatic announcer voice, old-school sci-fi atmosphere, giant robots marching through cities while heroes yell corny one-liners — the game absolutely commits to the bit. It knows exactly what kind of game it wants to be. Gameplay-wise, it’s basically Orcs Must Die mixed with a third-person shooter. You place turrets, traps, electric fences, squads of soldiers, then run around unloading rockets and laser weapons into giant waves of alien machines. It gets chaotic fast, especially in co-op. What I liked most is that the game doesn’t rely purely on towers doing all the work. You actually have to participate. You’re constantly running between lanes, repairing mistakes, selling and repositioning defenses, using abilities at the right moment, and panic-shooting enemies that somehow slipped through your setup. That said, the game definitely has issues. The maps start feeling repetitive after a while, some balancing decisions are questionable, and solo play can become frustrating once enemies start attacking from multiple directions. A few mechanics also feel underdeveloped compared to genre giants like Orcs Must Die or Dungeon Defenders. You can tell this was made with co-op in mind first. Still, I ended up enjoying it far more than I expected. There’s just something charming about its low-budget ambition. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s one of those games where you can feel the developers genuinely cared about the theme and atmosphere they were creating. If you have friends and enjoy tower defense games with nonstop action, explosions, and campy sci-fi energy, Fortified is honestly worth trying — especially on sale. It’s janky, repetitive, and occasionally rough around the edges. But it’s also surprisingly fun. 7/10
