Forbidden Solitaire

Forbidden Solitaire is a horror card game built around uncovering a strange 1995 CD-ROM that probably should have stayed forgotten. You play through solitaire-style battles while exploring its dungeon, unlocking upgrades, and digging further into the story surrounding the game itself. Pros ✔️ It nails the 90s game aesthetic - The old CD-ROM look, FMV, music, and grimy retro visuals get that era down SO well without just feeling like a cheap nostalgia filter. ✔️ Simple gameplay with some neat mechanics - The solitaire itself is easy to understand, but Jokers, upgrades, cursed cards, and enemies messing with the board give you more to think about as you get deeper. ✔️ The story pulled me in- What starts as playing an old weird card game slowly gives you more to uncover about where it came and with a satisfactory amount of da F***. Cons ❌ Shorter than I wanted - I WANTED MORE. I got to the end still wanting another chunk of game to dig through. ❌ A free-play mode would have been neat - I liked the card game enough that being able to just jump back in and play without worrying about the story would have given me more reason to stick around and some replay value. ❌ The price may put some people off - For the amount of gameplay you get, I can see the price being a harder sell for someone who is not already into this kind of unique take on a horror game. Conclusion I think Forbidden Solitaire is a bit of a hidden gem and I highly recommend giving it a shot. It takes a really simple card game, makes it weird and unsettling, and put a spin on solitaire I didn't expect to like so much. Score 11/13 Cards in the Tableau - I probably should have uninstalled it, but I was having too much fun.
