Really a well written story, voted a well deserved 9/10 : The Origin of a Bipolar (trust me you will understand what I mean by playing the game ;) young Fool and his ascension to court Jester of the King (in few years, from his work on the family farm to the court of a Duke with fellows performers to his encounter with his chimp/simian companion (either he will love you or hate you) to being sent to Royal Court in service to the crown and "duel" other jesters) Feel like the words used catch very well the Medieval setting also Love the dialog with really funny quips and entertaining antics by the main PC. Highly suggest to try this game.
I've never been more delighted and addicted by a Choice of Games game! If this is your first one, I advise you to go check out Choice of Romance or another earlier one -- they're a little easier to track and balance (though Choice of Romance in particular is really compelling and by no means short or simple). Otherwise, I am on my knees begging you to get this game, especially if you're a fan of the mythos of the fool and various fools of legend. Tip for your first run:
Increase Melancholy and Phlegm over half to pass the skill check that best impresses the Duke's company when you first meet them!
Please, Choice of Games, give us some way to track which game was authored by whom! I'd love to see more from Ben Rovik.
Glad I picked this up!! Good pacing, diverse set of characters, choices and consequences felt real, a unique story, and the writing was well-fit for the story and insightful.
i got a pet ape 10/10 would recommend
Well the fact my review is missing from this game is proof for myself that steam is pulling reviews. Why is anyone's guess But since i distinctly disliked this game Ill repost a negative review for it. Im quiet certain I wont remember everything I said in my first review (and i'll not even try), but Ill not allow the rating system to be abused by knowingly allowing it to pull my negative reviews.
You would be a fool not to like this. 9.5 My monkey moo-ed to me.
Super fun game. Takes a bit to get used to the writing style, but it's well written. I felt really satisfied with my ending even though I failed to seduce anyone. Even my failures felt like a part of my character's story and growth.
It's extremely fun. Wish the author didn't include so much writing about the ape, though. That thing's gonna rip my face off, don't make me hug it.
I enjoyed the writing, it felt like the author had skill and was willing to take their own writing seriously. The choices felt impactful. I played it a while ago but still have a positive impression of my time spent playing.
was looking to become a funny little jester and got a monkey companion along the way, destiny truly is unpredictable!! some pros: - Very interesting story!! The fool is constantly on the move (whether for better or for worse) so if you love text-based games and dynamic stories definitely give this a try!! - You can try to romance and befriend a lot of folks and that's all my little gay heart needed <3 Some characters have more spotlight and leave the scene faster than others, the story is about the fool's path to greatness, so if you want to romance someone you can't waste time ;) (and you gotta trust in your choices) - There really is a lot of choices. Like oh my god. There's a lot of possibilities for different playthroughs and it really makes you wonder about the things you could have done differently. This is definitely the type of game you can keep playing over and over and still find new routes, interactions and outcomes!! :DD some cons: - The old english may be off putting at times, i feel like if english isn't your native language you'll have more trouble understanding what's happening (personally i had to look up words more often than i would have wanted). - At times the stat system can be... confusing? unpredictable? You can't know what options are good or bad for each stat, you can just cross your fingers, hope that the option you chose has to do with one of your higher stats, and pray that you don't ♥♥♥♥ up horribly. Usually it's easy to tell but... the outcome may not go as you expect. - There's no save system. Personally i dont think this is bad nor it messes with how much you can enjoy the game generally speaking, but it definitely does make decisions and endings screw you over a lot more. You can be having a good playthrough that you're happy with and then just die, or destroy a relationship with a character you like. Again, you can't really know the consequences of your choices until you choose them, the only thing you can do if you really dislike an outcome is start over. OR you can just "♥♥♥♥ it we ball" your way out of any destroyed relationship. overall it's cool!! if you're not sure about it you could get it at a discount or something :)
