Reviews
It's difficult to find good interactive fiction with positive reviews, but Fool deserves more notice. The skill system is new and interesting- your aptitude determines success or failure, but more generally your mood determines the overall outcome- if your attitude doesn't align, it'll color the action and could swing negative even if you had the skill. This creates interesting situations where based on how you've played, you may want to take riskier decisions just because they are "in-character" and therefore more likely to succeed. That's something I haven't seen before, and I love it. The setting and focus is also refreshing- I think it's one of two stage-oriented stories on Steam. A good use of two and a half hours for a first play, and well worth the money. There is definitely enough branching for additional plays although achieving specific outcomes may take some thinking.
Wonderfully written. The medieval dialect is a little hard to understand sometimes, but it's not too distracting and really helps with immersion. Speaking of immersion, sometimes this game feels... painfully real. Like even when I try my best and I am making people laugh, sometimes I still get thrown into a vat of alcohol because some duke thought it might be funny, or I lose a fight to a puppet. There's also times when I'm well over 60% on a relationship meter with a character, so I'm under the impression that we're at least friends now... and then they send me to the whipping post for trying to help with last night's performance. Granted, I did make things worse by trying to help, but... 1.) The option in the game did not hint that it would fail horribly, especially when the game said I could pull it off if I was "wise enough", when wisdom was my best stat. 2.) It was literally an accident, and the whipping post actually lowered my physical performance stat. Aaand that was the moment I stopped trusting other characters. Basically, I'm saying the game can be kind of pessimistic, but that just makes it feel even better every time you succeed at something big. If you think you might like this game, go for it. It's definitely worth the price, and... see how I spent almost 9 hours on this game? That was my first playthrough. It gave me that many hours of fun on my first playthrough. Get the game.
one of the best choice of games stories i've played
This game has actually been really inspiring! I´ve been trying to write a book about a jester for three years now and there was nothing I could actually point to and say “Yeah, I want my story to be a little like that!” Now I have that and it´s wonderful <3 In my defence, it´s hard not to be inspired when the game is this good. There´s so many paths you can take, the story is consistently funny and I have very rarely seen tension executed so well. My only critique is that the text itself is quite hard to understand at times- for a non-native English speaker. I´m familiar with using a dictionary with anything I read but that won´t help me with understanding what the sentence itself is trying to communicate. Thankfully, the game has been quite forgiving so far. It really helps that it´s just extremely well written. It always makes me giddy when I look at a paragraph and see no sentence that I would cut for brevity. Everything has a purpose and the story respects the players time. Wonderful! I have so much respect for the writers/writer. If I could force people to buy it on mass, I would. Great game, I recommend it wholeheartedly <3
One of the weaker ones...At what I thought would be about halfway is the ending. Generally speaking the whole thing is...fine. I'd say even $5 is a bit rich considering that;s the same cost as something new like Whiskey Four....
Loved the writing and style of this, definitely a top tier choice of game.
This game was an absolute delete. Loved the humour, loved the characters and the performances. Most of all I love my monkey. 9/10
The writing is really good, and the story (as much as I saw of it before my poor Venois was murdered) is full of fun interactions and charming characters! Highly reccomended! I will be replaying this many times over! Luckily, my second fool Liliwyn is doing far better than the first one! Edit: Well... He was doing better!
Oddly charming
Prima Avventura.
