This is a really fun Tetris Attack clone. If they ever thought about making a sequel, the only real change I would make is giving this game a retro aesthetic and make the story more involved because everything else about this game is absolutely spot on. The gameplay is as good as Tetris Attack and with the different modes all included in the campaign, more varied than Tetris Attack. Even though there is plenty of content and it's cheap, I would always be down for more. I loved this game - highly recommended.
I am not familiar with the genre, so I tried to give the game a chance on its own. I should have listened to the reviews from genre fans pointing out the flaws. The fact that you cannot move blocks into where you just cleared is very unsatisfying, like you're constantly making small disjointed moves instead of a flowing chain of moves. The campaign is not very interesting. Some stages are so easy that they are completely pointless. For example there was one that I think was supposed to teach me about the speed up mechanic and combo multiplier, but I cleared it in 3 seconds just dragging the first things I saw. Maybe there is something there for experienced players in other game modes, but I don't really feel like fighting my boredom to find out (or be disappointed). Wish I'd tried it when I bought it so I could refund.
Scratches the itch for Pokemon Puzzle League/Panel de Pon well enough, but not being able to move blocks while the others are falling to continue a chain brings the game flow to a screeching halt. Since this is the closest thing to the aforementioned games on here, I would recommend it based on that especially if you have a handheld way to play it a la Steam Deck.
I've been looking for a modern replacement to Puzzle League and I'm happy to have finally found a good one!! The addition of powers is a fun extra.
GOOD
With some asterisks, i'd recommend it. It's Panel, with some light changes. Variable well size, etc. The singleplayer makes you do every game mode (solve in x, get x points, etc) and unfortunately, RARELY a cpu VS match, which is the most fun you can have. They are all mandatory though, and i'm stuck on one that's a full screen clear i have to do with some stipulations, and i just wanna fight the computer. It's lame. Edit, i was stupid. There are no full screen clears required. I did it, and failed the challenge lol. It just wanted some 5combos, 4combos and x number of regular clears. They're the least fun parts of the game but it's not that bad. I went back and beat the campaign. Final boss was a little tough, but the game is a little on the easy side. But, it's panel, and it's fun, so like, you know. Check it out maybe.
https://youtu.be/EPaKvLArr0c Definitely a match three game that allows players to match three but not much other depth than that is provided.
Small-ish little Puzzle League (et al.) type game...If you like Puzzle League (et al.) you will be at least reasonably happy. The multiplayer is local only, but when things like Remote Play/Parsec exist it doesn't really seem worth acting like that counts as a problem. It does seem a little rough around the edges, but I got it for only 2 dollars (and it's normally only 4), so I'm not going to complain about anything. Most of the bugs I noticed were minor annoyances at worst anyway. (One was a seemingly entirely visual glitch with there sometimes being a couple blocks stuck floating in midair, and another was sometimes when I tabbed out of the game while in windowed mode it would reset my window's resolution to 1920x1080 even though I was playing in a smaller window than that.) One bug did seem to be quite dire for a game like this though, which was that at time of writing, the game doesn't seem to be saving high scores correctly? I've played Score Attack a few times now while trying for achievements, but the menu always says my high score is 0. This seems like it might only be a recent issue though? I could only find one other person who also had this issue. It seems like the developers updated the game as recently as last year though (which was already several years into the game's life), so I will hope that there's still a chance they could fix this...!
