Great indie game. Dialogues are fun and graphics are one of a kind
Half-Life if it was French, in space and was janky as heck. I deem it Snail-jank, even with it's shortcomings it has a lot of heart behind it.
I'm usually the first person to complain when a game sucks or is too difficult, but I genuinely did not come across any of the issues listed in the negative reviews: - saving & loading worked perfectly fine for me (although when loading a save it would always spawn a random NPC near me? I thought that was a bug at first, but I'm pretty sure it summons one just in case you softlock yourself by running out of ammo and finding yourself among a ton of enemies) - I did not fall through the map or get stuck at any point. It's definitely possible to get stuck at the very end of the last Early Access level among all the wreckage, but if you stay on the visible path it's not a problem. I did manage to launch an enemy through a wall with the car/buggy, from which point on he was effectively invincible and kept shooting at me, but that was more funny than annoying - the car definitely doesn't handle very well, but it drives a lot better on the roads you come across later on. I think the level where the car is introduced is actually the worst part about it, but then it becomes more pleasant to use later on - I saw someone in the reviews mention that "an enemy threw themselves on the ground" and they thought they were dead because of "lack of visual clarity". The enemies do that all the time and that action is very obviously them dodging or trying to evade a grenade, it's incredibly easy to tell when they're actually dead (and they also always play a sound of some kind upon death) - performance was good all throughout, however the SMG causes HEAVY lag spikes at times. I'm not exactly sure what causes it, but it felt like whenever I was to close on an enemy and going full-auto on them, everything became very choppy for a second or two I'm guessing since the game has been out for a month now, the patches released since have fixed most of those issues and that's why I never came across any. However, one point of criticism I 100% agree with is the fact that the SMG is complete garbage. You can essentially only kill one enemy with an entire magazine if you're standing a few feet away from them, and MAYBE kill two if you're standing directly in front of them, but that's it. The shotgun kills almost everything in one hit, provided you're standing close enough. The harpoon gun one-shots EVERYTHING and is often provided in areas with very tanky enemies, probably also to prevent softlocking. The grenades are so-so, I think it's interesting that you can choose how far to throw them, but they usually bounce a little further than you want them to either way, and the blast radius isn't that great. It is definitely possible to get stuck if you run out of ammo or lose too much health, but I never had to save scum anywhere. I was admittedly not playing overtly aggressive and being resourceful with my ammo though, mostly via trying to use the melee attack as much as possible (which you can essentially only do if you catch a lone enemy by himself) Ammo IS scarce and some guns DO suck, but even if it's not intentional, I thought it played into the worldbuilding well. The invading alien force is essentially a broke, Section 8 version of Half-Life's Combine or Quake 4's Strogg. Their entire world looks like garbage and they fight with makeshift Rust weapons, so I thought it was actually kind of fitting that most of them only drop like 2 bullets and a useless pistol on death The story in general is pretty forgettable, there's a frenchman on your radio that tells you where to go every 15 minutes but overall the levels/environments themselves seemed a lot more interesting. Going into it, I thought I was in for more of a Dead Space feel where you're stuck on a large ship, but the game essentially only uses the ship (thus far) for the opening sequence and then the main point of interest becomes the alien world/base that seems more like a megastructure than anything. There's still a lot of tight corridors and enclosed spaces, but you often end up in very large, open areas that still look man-made. It reminded me a lot of some of Lorn's Lure's levels. "artillery in a megastructure" was also something I first saw in Lorn's Lure, but unlike that game, you actually get to operate it here and I hope that it's going to be re-used at some point. I'm unsure if you can actually destroy the alien dropship with the LMGs on the sides (I just ran away from it), but it would be interesting to defend against a bunch of those using the cannon controls or something similar, it would be a waste if that feature was only used for blowing open closed paths In short, it's obviously not finished and needs some re-balancing, but it's a pretty decent FPS. I think this game and especially its marketing would actually benefit from leaning into the megastructure theme a little more, the only megastructure-themed FPS on Steam (Metal Garden) got a lot of attention just for its setting and I think this game improves quite a bit on some sections & aesthetics players loved about that game
Excellent jeu indé! La gameplay est énervé et fluide pour des gunfights bien nerveux. La DA transpire la rouille et le sang, de la SF retro comme on en fait plus!
FLAW is an impressive attempt to re-create the magic of FPS games from the turn of the century. Despite it being in Early Access, the campaign will take around 8 hours to beat and has a surprisingly large feature set, including a lengthy introduction with story/dialogue, expansive levels, driving, and a tightly balanced health/ammo economy. Many games emulate the 90s early 3D era in some fashion, but where those games typically fail, FLAW succeeds. This game plays more like Halo: CE meets Half-life, with a starwars junkyard aesthetic. Each area flows into the next, and the game occasionally adds a new enemy or weapon type as it slowly increases the difficulty. THE GOOD: -enemy AI is better than you'd expect. They typically advance on you but will sometimes peer out from cover, do a dodge roll, or reposition themselves for a better shot. -the weapons feel and sound satisfying to use, the game features bright blood and ragdolls, all giving combat some punch to it -level layouts have a lot of variety, plenty of large complexes, cramped corridors, and expansive wastelands -character controller is fantastic. moving, jumping, colliding, sprinting all feel 10/10 -climbing all over the environment is rarely halted via invisible walls, and reminded me of getting outside the map in older games -the world is well thought out and the plot is coherent. The lengthy introduction gives you a real understanding of why you're here/were captured, with lots of ugly-but-charming characters. -the game also has AI companions that follow you around at times, another ambitious feature not typically seen in indie FPS games -the level design is outstanding. Many of the game's firefights take place in spaces that are fun to explore and can be approached from different angles -stealth is often relevant. Enemies patrol areas and can frequently be snuck up on -no difficulty settings. A con for some, but I found the difficulty to be just right. Encounters don't feel unfair or trivial. Different enemy types mesh well with the different weapons, and I rarely ran out of ammo or had an insane surplus. -the tone is immersive. This is not a game that parades itself around trying to be cool. The story and designs are taken seriously by the developer. THE BAD: -save system needs work. The levels are very long and incorporate lots of world events and animations, making a conventional quicksave system challenging. The game simply isn't storing enough data on the fly to make the save system accurate enough. -objectives or interactables can be unclear. I didn't struggle with these, but less experienced players could easily be stuck because they didn't know that certain computers are interactable, or why certain doors might not open. -performance dips to an unacceptable degree when using the improved smg -UI Text size does not stay at what is set to -characters' voice acting has no variety -ragdolls are a little unstable and occasionally 'explode', a nitpick -sequence using artillery to destroy road barrier fired off on its own before i even entered the building, surely this was not intended? would've been fun to do this -game could really use some music and ambiance here and there. -the game has no conclusion and just ends. It's early access, so this is more of a warning to players than a strike against the developer All in all, the gripes are minimal. I just had SO MUCH FUN with FLAW. The core components are all great and the game never got boring. It stands with the best boomer shooters out there even without being finished. 8.5/10
The game is great, but it needs some bug fixes:Weapon pickup: Issues with picking up weapons.Save/Load glitch: Vehicles and guns disappear after reloading a saved game.Display mode bug: Windowed mode automatically resets to Fullscreen every time the game loads.
Сохранения не работают, бомжи багуются и не умирают.
Not ready for even the most basic consumption. I can excuse some of the Early Access jank. But I can't excuse the fail of basic functionality. Stuff that should be ready first. 1. Enemies can not die. Had one where the head was blown off and it didn't die. 2. And much worse: Basic saving functions does not work. Every single time when trying to load a save the file would simply not load and then vanish. I want this to be good, good points are here. But they are useless when basic functions don't work.
