A frantic game, for those who like adrenaline and take their persistence to move to the next level very seriously. With a breathtaking soundtrack, Flatland 2 brings an excellent PLUS to its predecessor, providing the player with many hours of great fun! I recommend.
It's great to see the devs expanding the series! Vol. 2 is brighter, even more polished than the previous ones. And amazing soundtrack creates a perfect playlist. Difficulty is still high. But persistence pays off!
This game is amazing! I've played till the end all the other games of this series, but this new one is an amazing addition to this franchise. Precise controls, high dificulty, nice visuals and a great soundtrack is what you'll get in this game. Highly recommended, go buy it now!
3/10
When I wrote my review for Flatland Vol.1 (here), I thought that the Vol.1 was just an empty threat and they wouldn't go ahead and make another, but sadly they did. Flatland Vol.2 is the same gameplay as Vol.1 but worse in many aspects, including an ugly filter, and once more the resolution is locked in fullscreen mode, catapulting this far beneath minimum acceptable standards for PC. I covered a lot of the reasons why games like this are so bad in my first review, but essentially this is just a collection of cut corners, copouts and excuses for not doing their job properly as developers. Minimalist/neon/pixel art has been used to cover for the developers inability to arrange decent PC graphics. A old, tired, dead, obsolete retro platformer game design was used instead of making a proper PC game because it requires great talent, skill and expertise to create modern PC games. The resulting abysmal quality gives us a woefully bad game that serves very little purpose apart from discouraging people from buying cheap game bundles.
Fun game but sometimes the visuals made me nauseous and it's the only game to ever make me feel like that. I recommend but take frequent breaks.
Disclaimer: My scores/reviews are almost always based on having bought the game at close to the "lowest historical price" on steam at time of purchase. Quick score: 4/5 Notes: Solid minimalist platformer. Nothing revolutionary. You got a jump + dash and a bunch of obstacle courses. Unlike the 1st game in the series which was trash, this game is actually pretty great and fixes all the major issues I had with the previous game. So props to the dev for the improvements, good job m8. Massive improvement in almost every way. Couple minor complaints. The movement is still a little stiff for my taste, and the visual effects can be a bit too much at times. (Though turning off screen shake in the options helps a ton and I would recommend) Most of the levels are pretty easy, but the movement speed of your character is fast enough that even on the easy levels it is still enjoyable to try to blast through the levels as fast as you can without dying. The bonus modes are okay, but the only one worth possibly playing through again would be the speedrun one, which adds a death timer to every stage. Personally I'm fine having just played through the normal mode with all the bonus levels which took about 90 minutes total. Worth the $2.50 sale price for me.
More challenging, more beautiful, more fun and more unforgivable. Flatland vol. 2 follows the path from the first one, a minimalist platform game with a high level of difficulty in which all your reflexes skills are put to the test. Prepare to die a lot, AGAIN!!
Reminds me a lot of celeste and super meat boy, which is definitely not a bad thing. A very enjoyable game with tight controls.
You would think a game about playing as a cube overcoming obstacles is simple enough like the first game, but no. It's much worse than the first game. They really upped the ante in this game by making it more challenging and more frustrating. Its controls are a slip and slide. The wall climbing is much more challenging to hold onto and you fall to your death in a mere millisecond. Some movable obstacles that are able to kill you go so fast that it's impossible to get through. Speaking of impossible, there are those cube collectables that you cannot retrieve due to how bad the dash ability is implemented. So bad that they made it so you can only have one dash per jump, only until you land on solid ground, but not when you're against a wall and there are moments when it's impossible to get back to where you came from. Would not recommend such a simple concept of a game :/
