Just started playing and can already tell i'm hooked. Learning German and will be playing this game to completion. Am I having fun studying? Yes

The game is decent, but it is abandoned. Be sure to buy it on sale for the price to be worth an abandoned game. With a little love I would be praising the hell out of this game tbh. EDIT: Heard back from the developer, not abandoned just needs a little love and time. <3

I'm terrible at memorising vocabulary so I want to find a fun way that might be better at helping me learn. Flashcard Hero is exactly that - it's fun, fast-paced, and intense. I didn't expect it to be so fast, but it makes for a laugh. I've not played it for long, but I recommend it all the same.

Helpful game, with enough content. Worth the price :)

This game is great. It's everything Quizlet dreams of becoming. Can't wait to see what else Torch Three Studios comes out with.

This is a small collection of multiple-choice flashcards devoid of sentential context and grammatical information. I've completed all the German content and it has been utterly pointless. The response options largely make learning optional as you can make your way through the entire game by eliminating options or vaguely recognizing a letter or two per word pairing. There are no mechanics requiring active recall of any sort. And speaking of mechanics, it is worth mentioning that this is more of an animated flashcard deck than a game. By responding correctly to the word prompt you lower the HP of your enemy (i.e., you progress through a small deck of flashcards), and when you've defeated the enemy (i.e., completed the deck) you gain experience and level up, which allows you to invest points into a few stats. Increasing your damage or crit reduces the amount of learning you need to do to complete each unit (on average). Increasing the amount of time available to respond removes any possible time pressure. The other stats are completely without impact unless you're really, really struggling. That's it. Out of all possible ways to gamify language learning this is probably one of the least promising ones imaginable. Being able to pick out the translation of "hat" from a list containing words for hat, shoe, skirt and pajamas doesn't require you to decode the word in your target language, nor does it require you to produce it. The fact that you're presented with the same options over and over again within a given fight (or sub-deck) means that you just end up doing rapid visual search and recognition. There aren't even any misleadingly similar options that would require you to pay attention to the actual spelling or grammatical correctness or anything much of relevance. You're not learning to decode the word as it appears in real text or speech, nor are you learning to use it to express yourself. Also, the vocabulary selection is kinda weird.
