A ninja gaiden clone that's more rough than diamond. whoever made this game doesn't know enemy behaviour, spawn points, hitboxes, jump height and grap distance, achievement unlocks chained into higher difficulty and lastly replenishable platforms. Also whoever planned level 5-5, ♥♥♥♥ you. literally spend 8 minutes, that jump is not pixel perfect, it's rng as well.

This game's most important mechanic is broken: The wall grab. At the final level where the green water rises up, you rely on grabbing the wall, however this doesn't always work and you end up falling to your death. I wasted like 5 hours trying to do the final level but it's just not worth it when I have no idea if the game is gonna work or not. I liked everything else up until that point, but that's about 1 hour of fun and 5 hours of frustration to the point I had to give up, and I don't give up easily. - UPDATE - I figured out the issue, and I must say, at least I can sort of forgive the game now, but sadly I must leave this negative review because this game simply needs a fix. The issue is that when using a gamepad, you can only move with analog stick, not D-pad. It so happens that wall grab doesn't work if you accidentally tilt the stick a bit up or down, as that would count as a diagonal input, and you cant wall grab if you press diagonals. It HAS to be left or right, not up left, down left, up right, or down right. If you play this with keyboard, this issue will never happen. This games needs either d-pad support, or make it possible to wall grab with diagonals. I was surprisingly comfortable with analog stick, because the rest of the game is easy enough, but now we either need diagonal wall grab, or d-pad support. Or to be honest, both. I had to collect extra lives to do the final level. I would suggest a slight edit on the final level to add at least 2 more 1-up items.

An OK "NES" game. The controls are responsive (I'm using an NES USB controller and it works great with JoyToKey), the sprite art is good, and the level design is fine. I have to agree with others that the music is not the best, but honestly, I tend to tune it out with all that's going on. I've not beaten it yet, however, I'm not sure that's going to be possible, as level 2 hard mode has a series of four near-impossible jumps on ice platforms that were (I'm guessing) not play tested. I can get to the fourth one maybe 2 times in a 45 minute session, but it's honestly such a shock I always screw up the last hop to the orange platform. I haven't tried the easier modes yet, so I can't comment as to whether or not other issues that may hinder progression arise. Recommended, but only for those who grew up playing NES games or just like abuse and aren't expecting to score all the achievements on this title. EDIT: Got past level 2 on Holy Gaiden (hard); for whatever reason, my NES controller causes the glitch I mentioned--using an Xbox 360 controller doesn't seem to trigger the bug on the ice platforms. As such, the game is still recommended. Just be sure to use a modern controller.
