I know some people are going to try this title and say the typical stuff, "its too short", "its too different", and they are welcome to their opinion, however, I found Finish Report to be quite a refreshing change from typical game styles. It took a few minutes to get the mechanics down, and after that I had a really good time with the computer. Really felt like I was trying to discover the mystery that surrounds this station. Rover control also took a bit to get into a flow with, but again after a few minutes, I was moving around just fine. The bottom line here is if you want a new kind of adventure, for under 5 bucks, and you have about an hour and a half to spare, give it a go. Is it perfect? No, but then again, what game really is? It plays just fine, and sets the tone for more content in the future. I am very much looking forward to whatever comes next, and really feel like the value is right where it should be.
At the start of the game, you begin exploration with a robot you control from a distance, you learn about a space station that went silent, the events that took place in it, from several text logs from crew members and environmental details. There is a climax point that starts the second half of the game. You will be ripped of all your sense of safety that you may started to feel, having only need to use your remote robot so far. You will have to jump into the deep waters. You will absolutely ♥♥♥♥ yourself, as I have. You may not have the courage to overcome that obstacle, and will prematurely end your expedition or ALT+F4 out of the game to save your skin. I had to restart 5 times, I had to ask Discord friends to talk to me to watch me play, because I was affraid. Finish Report is a terrifying horror experience, the paranoia and a fear of the unknown builds up inside you. The moment you are exposed, your heart starts to beat faster, you freeze, your eyes wide open for danger but you don't dare move a muscle. Worth a try for everyone.
My canon ending is that I finished my report, and if High Command doesn't like, they can fire me.
Short and sweet. Kept me on edge the whole time. Looking forward to chapter 2.
Start with not knowing what happened. You have the luxury to explore the station from the safety of your own cabin but this changes closing to the end and becomes very tense. Don't look up any review video, that will ruin the fun.
This is a very decisive not recommend. I'm a fan of dread-driven horror, but this isn't that. I felt no dread other than at the thought of having to play more of this game. There were three moments I considered dropping this game. 1. When I booted it up and saw the prose. I'll attach an example of the first few words you see after starting a new game below. 2. When the game froze 10 or so minutes in, forcing me to hard reboot my computer. 3. When I died near the end and it told me "if you die once more you'll have to replay the whole game", which is in many ways off-putting. At this point I really did drop the game. It's not even a skill challenge, you only die if you don't understand the mechanics (like that you don't have to keep walking while you're being attacked, and if you open your eyes it's instant death). Overall though, the above issues could've been easily forgiven. The problem is that this game has nothing it does well. The story is predictable and poorly delivered, the drone controls give me a tremendously interesting view of the floor, the jamming mechanic is overused, and the horror is hard to feel when I know more or less exactly what I'm dealing with before I enter the same post-code as the monster. Promised example of the prose from the starting text scroll "In the future mankind has already reached the stars for a long time They build space ships, cities on different planets, space stations far in deep space And yet, there is no sign of other lifeform apart from our own"
not my tipical style but its better than expected for 5$ good game if u burnt out in multi games also fun to stream
The game has a nice thing going for it. Altho there was stuff that confused me Why not have the rover be moveable using wasd by attaching yourself to the screen or something? start game spoiler:
because the rover sometimes loses its videofeed when near certain places/areas, it made me think that i only had to close my eyes in those specific areas.
midgame spoiler:
Only later on when reading a discussion post did i realise that isnt the case whatsoever, but is tied to hearing whispers.
lategame spoiler:
I didnt notice that there were 2 agent's codes written on the ending panel. so i thought i had to go back to my first panel to find the code. altho thats probably on me i guess? Or maybe close the door behind the person after they get to the last room, so as to point out all you need is already there. i felt confused that i couldnt open the door to escape to the ship. maybe i missed something? nonetheless i was given an end credit so i guess i finished it?
Small bugs: moving (WASD) still allowed even when in terminal. when moving arrow up/down in terminal, it'll autocomplete your previous command but put the cursor at the beginning instead of the end of the command. Overall, nice small game, interesting mechanic. Could use a lill QOL such as WASD rover
