I'm definitely going to keep this review brief. This was it, eh? Find Me is not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination. However, this was on Kickstarter in 2017, was successfully funded (I was one of the backers), and for the last three years, this was all we got. A 40 minute basic basic basic platformer with no real frills. I can't help but wonder what really happened that after three years of development. What we essentially received is a glorified demo. I don't see a scenario where you should ever pay more than a buck or so for this game, based on the content. Really though, this game should be offered free. The story is essentially you, a little girl, gets hit by a car which dislodges her shadow. You play as said shadow, trying to find your way back to your body. Which sounds pretty cool. In practice, this is the type of demo you would let your child play, and if your expectation is anything beyond a dark topic framed against a children's platformer demo, this is not the game for you, and as a backer, I am quite disappointed in the end result, which, as mentioned, is passable, but nothing even close to the game three years of development should have provided. I would give this a flat average score, but due to Steam's format and the fact that this game did not live up to any real expectations, I'm giving this a thumbs down. If you're curious about the game, I'd wait until it is a buck or less, or for its eventual entry into a bundle. Cute little game that you can beat in about 30-45 minutes. The artwork and music are charming but the gameplay and level design is a bit unrefined. Overall though, it was a fun time from some young developers and glad to have supported this game during it's development.
This is a fun puzzle platformer in the same vein as games like Inside or Limbo, so if you enjoyed those games you will enjoy this one as well. I originally backed the development on Kickstarter, and it turned out even better than advertised, so it is definitely worth the cost. I hope this isn't the last we've seen from the girls of Team Invenio or Girls Make Games. We need more developers like them in the industry.
From the little I played so far, I really enjoyed it. It is simple to learn and understand. The game makes it easy to learn the mechanics.
Wow! Just played the beta and I'm so impressed! Congratulations on the launch of the game. Just wanted to list some things I loved in case it makes it back to the team: -The music for the boss fight into the ending - really gave me the big feels and carried that emotional impact into the ending -The animation states felt polished for the main character - tricky to do, and well executed! -This deadly bread factory! Such a fun and dangerous place! -I love a story that can communicate so much without words -The ambulance level! Great use of side-scroller fun and a nice ramp up in challenge. -Loved the environment art in the Studio Invenio level! All those background characters, whiteboards and arcade cabinets - plus the little kitchen :D Overall I was blown away and I'm so glad to have been a supporter and see this vision come to life!
WONDERFUL GAME BY A WONDERFUL TEAM OF DEVELOPERS!!!!!! REALLY CREATIVE IDEA 10/10 BEST GAME EVER
A tiny little platformer with some clever ideas surrounding light and darkness. I especially loved the nicely drawn polaroid memory secrets strewn around the levels. Well done, Team Invenio!
I'm one of the Kickstarter supporters and please keep in mind that the initial game was developed by 4 young girls who met at summer camp to create this game and won the grand prize. It may have taken about 3 years to develop which I understand that these girls may have been working on this on the side while still attending school and such. And of course, had some professional help along the way. Now with that out of the way, this is a legit good game for their level of knowledge in game development. I honestly thought this was going to be a breeze, but truthfully, I am a mediocre player when it comes to platformers, so there were a few areas where I actually struggled to get to the next part. The punishment is that you "lose a life" by being by exposed to the light too long and then respawning at a checkpoint. There are a few awkward/clunky areas, but still responsive and doable. The only glitches I've encountered are small invisible platforms that I bumped into, but not game breaking. I would recommend it to anyone who has a kid or a young loved one who is interested in gaming. Or if you just want a simple platformer that can be easily completed in a hour.
Great effort on this game!
This game has set itself up to immediately be a favorite of mine. As a guy who dreams of having an indie game of my own and have one in development, I can say this feels gratifying. Although this is a somewhat basic game mechanically, Team Invenio uses a tool that all can relate to. Nostalgia and deep childhood memories come together to make a great reminder that not all games need to be big. not all games need to be fancy. This is an equivalent to a small town in game form, and it makes me incredibly happy to know this is from the minds that may become game devs fulltime in the future. I'd be sad to never hear from the youths that made this, because this game changed my views as a gamer. It makes me appreciate the small things, and that is something we all need reminded of time after time.
