FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Honestly been a sensational game only really played through the MSQ so far up to Dawntrail but been so addicting to play

I've play this game for years on ps4 but now I finally have it on PC as well. My love for Final Fantasy spans over many years ever since I was a child. However with that being said, I do believe that XIV just may be the greatest MMORPG I have ever played. From the story to the NPC's, to the job system and the unique leveling system just dose not just limit you to a single job but allows you level up everything on a single character. I have been here since before A Realm Reborn, and Yoshi-P took the original failure and created an absolute masterpiece. If anyone is wondering if this game is worth trying out, my answer is yes without a doubt or hesitation.

I’ve tried getting into MMOs for years, and for whatever reason, most of them just never clicked with me. Final Fantasy XIV Online is the one I keep coming back to. I’ve only just made it to Stormblood, but my goodness, the story has been fantastic. It feels like a proper Final Fantasy game first and an MMO second, which is probably why it works so well for me. The world, characters, music, and overall presentation do a great job pulling you in and making everything feel important. The visuals still hold up really well, the soundtrack is incredible, and the gameplay has been a lot more enjoyable than I expected. Some of the voice acting can be a little cringe at times, but honestly, that hasn’t taken away much from the overall experience. One of the biggest positives for me is being able to play comfortably on the couch with a controller. I don’t always want to be tied to my PC, so being able to relax and play it more like a traditional console RPG is a huge plus. Final Fantasy XIV has done what so many other MMOs couldn’t: it actually made me want to keep playing. I’m still fairly early in the grand scheme of things, but so far, it’s been an excellent experience and one I keep finding myself drawn back into.

Very fun and interesting story. Will keep you on the edge of your seat. Other players are very helpful and friendly. The mentor program that I have seen is one of the best that you can find. 10/10 recommend this game to anyone that is interested in playing an MMORPG. Has adaptations for whether you are a keyboard and mouse player or like me where you prefer controller inputs.

My play time at this point is ~280 hours and... I'm about halfway through the current story, haha. This is actually my second attempt, as a friend and I tried to power through the story as quickly as possible a few years ago. We made good progress but eventually did burn out. And this would be my biggest warning for those looking at this game: The story is huge. Google suggests around 500 hours in total, with another expansion in about six months that will likely add another 30 to 50 hours. If you're a WoW person like myself, you should not go into this thinking you'll be able to get to endgame in a week or two. You need to accept that this is likely a multi-month, or in my case multi-year, journey that you just need to take in your own time. Which I have done better on my second attempt. I'll hop on a few times a week. Sometimes it's completing story missions. Or I'm leveling up gunbreaker, one of the tanking jobs (aka classes), to go with the two DPS jobs I played previously. Other times I just do the Roulette, which are daily group events similar to dungeons and raids. I found a Free Company, this game's version of guilds, full of goof balls that are always happy to provide advice. Another factor that won me over is how beautiful this game is. I can't say I really know what's always going on, but I often find myself just enjoying the view. The story, at least so far, is compelling and intrigues me enough to continue. While the classes have similarities (1, 2, 3 combo and then some kind of spender) they all have enough variety and character to make them different. A perk of the game is that one character can swap between all the jobs, as long as they're leveled, giving you the ability to change up your experience at nearly any point. For me, this is all I was really looking for in a MMO. Classes to master, missions to complete, and a group of friends to enjoy it with. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this game to everyone. But if you happen to have the itch, I think this is one of the better options you can go with.
