This game has ruined every other MMO for me. 6/10
Wish it was more popular :(
inspired by my friend candehh to play this game on June 24 2026 i have been so addicted to this game since June 24 2026 that i now have 16041 hours in this game as of June 24 2026. pls come play pvp frontlines on primal
i actually have thousands of hours on a different platform than steam, achievements for having lots of lvl 100 accounts etc. why do i not recommend this game? because after all that, i am still waiting for the game to get good. by that, i do not mean i am waiting for end game content, the content in this game never changes from level 1 to level 100. it will always remain an incredibly slow and clunky tab target MMO designed for the early 2000s. somehow, the main playerbase is fine with that. they like to be elitist in a game that requires less than the bare minimum of every other updated game. the hardest part about end game PvE in this game? the servers. your game client sends information to the server which updates so incredibly slow that it actually causes issues in the game. the servers take so long to process and confirm information that they have to predict a second in advance what is happening on your end, and then they go with it. if you were walking towards an explosion, and then stopped like a normal person would, the game does not care. the server predicts you kept holding W, got hit, and took damage. and in this game, most things just instant kill you. they call this "snapshotting" and it is the most well known mechanic for any end game content player. it means that even though you did not get hit by an ability, the game assumes you did because of positioning predictions and server delay. so in FF14, you have to memorize entire fights and pre-play the mechanics before they happen, because what happens on your screen is always false and you cannot react to anything you see on your screen because it is always false. imagine playing PvP in a game designed like this. took damage? ok, heal then. right? oh you cant heal because you actually died 3 seconds ago to 8 different attacks that did not visually appear on screen or register in the combat log yet. someone did the ability 5 seconds ago, and it had to be registered by the server, and your inputs to heal are incredibly late AND they still have to go be registered by the server anyways which takes forever. wow, great PvP right? so what can i do? well, you have to realize that the game will predict you ran further out of cover than you actually did, every time. and everyone on the enemy team is using macros and scripts to nuke the 1st person that pixel peeks out of a wall. so you have to get used to using your guard ability when you are still full hp on your screen. you have to get used to using your purify ability before you are even stunned on your screen. you have to get used to using heals when you have not been hit yet, because trust me, you have been getting nuked for the past 3 seconds by 5 people and it will show up all at once in this game. when i said i was waiting for the game to get better, this is what i meant. there is nothing good about the gameplay. its garbage. its braindead. you would only defend it if you were braindead. its not hard to not stand in red circles on the floor, but it is artificial difficulty to add imaginary 1000ms latency to everyone through server updates. and because the game designed so bad, they cant release good content. they are still bound by contract to let PS4 players and nintendo switch gameboy players access FF14 and all its content, so thats the limitations we are talking about. this game CANT improve. the only reason i am still here is to finish the story. and the story is another major issue. everyone tells you its the best story in gaming? its not. it has amazing cutscenes, but you have to play 100 hours of 2005 slop to unlock 30 minutes of voiced cinematics. ask yourself if the story is worth putting 2000 into for 5 hours of cutscenes and maybe 10 hours of actual good questing dialogue. if i knew back then what i knew now, i would of avoided this game, but now im too invested to not finish it. im trying to save you from that same fate. the community does not redeem the game at all, they are a bunch of perverts that hang around in town "AFKing" 20 hours a day in their hooker outfits on animal people with a bunch of creepy accronyms in their bio that invite you to message them about erotic roleplay involving torturing them or drugging them and taking advantage of them etc. theres an entire server of people like that called balmung. people professionally dirty talk and sell dirty art in this game for pixel currency, they spend all day doing it and devote entire guilds to it and make their player house into a casino where you can rent their guild members for weird stuff every night. everyone also cheats, they buy hundreds of dollars per month worth of extra accounts and "retainers" which are just extra auction house slots and passive money generators so they can list all their botted items made with daily and weekly limit cap items you cant possibly obtain on a single paid account, so the market is completely dominated by actual rejects of society that spend all day in FF14 using scripts and addons to run their army of accounts that just afk at every mining node or tree, and craft macro gear sets which take a minute per ingredient so 10 minutes per item, then they list hundreds of them per day for nearly free. these people never log off and they will undercut you by a penny the second you update your prices, and they will do it on dozens of items every minute. you can literally just google how to get bots that do this stuff for you but square enix and their infinite wisdom cant seem to stop any type of botting in their game. you can literally find dozens of level 10s in the starter zones underground out of bounds fighting quest enemies all day and night. the devs do nothing. 30mil active players my A! this game is mostly bots and erotic roleplayers completely protected by the devs because they invest so much money. those ERP clubs and bots will never stop subbing because if they miss a single month of sub their mansions are demolished and they lose out on their submarines and other passive income generation. keep that in mind when the devs act like you can take a break and leave whenever you want. sure, as long as you never invest in any side content like buying a house. expect a ridiculous amount of dailies and weeklies you need to complete too, hours worth that really set your progress back if you dont keep up with them. everything in this game feels predatory. did i mention its 20 bucks a month to play?
