Been Playing for a few days wit my friend it was worth the buy . endless quest to get lost in. i am recovering from a stroke to the brain this is helping me recover and keep my mind focus on tasks
Pros - fantastic setting with great narratives and cool content Cons - Playing alone teaches you what proper lonliness feels like
I have a weird relationship with this game. As you can see by my hours, I have played it quite a bit, I've finished ARR and Heavensward, and spent a lot of time leveling up different jobs, exploring, chatting. The game has a very nice charm and vibe, lots of jobs are fun to play, character customization and glam is great and the story has interesting moments and cool characters. I really want to get invested. And it might have been different if I had started playing it back when everything was releasing over time, but starting after 13 years of content has already been released changes the experience a lot. The main story consists of a loop: Go talk to an NPC, you get sent on an errand (delivering something, picking something up, or killing enemies.) watch a small, non-voiced cutscene, and repeat for an hour or two until you get an actual interesting story beat, dungeon, or major cutscene. Then the loop continues. It feels like for every few hours of MSQ content, you get a few minutes of genuinely engaging content, while the rest is repetitive fetch questing. You arrive at an important location to speak to someone important? Access denied, go and help local villagers for an hour first. Now a lot of MMORPGs don't have strong stories either. The difference here is that this is more of an RPG-first and MMO-second, Since almost all content is locked behind MSQ progression, you can't really ignore the story if you're not enjoying it. People often say "it gets better" and the story definitely does, but the loop stays pretty much the same, at least up to where I made it in the game. Having all this content available at once, without the original release pacing means you experience that gameplay loop uninterrupted, over and over. I will say that maybe I just played too much of the game in a short period of time, but still, it becomes a slog at some points. It's a good game, and i really want to keep liking it, but i find it hard to stay consistently engaged. Maybe I just need to take a break for a while and come back later and push through another expansion or two. Another thing. For an MMO it doesn't feel very social. People are friendly, for sure, but it's hard to actually make friends just by playing. You usually have to seek out Free Companies and Discords. Otherwise there are not many activities that encourage socializing with randoms, and most interaction happens outside the game. I even tried getting friends into it, but playing through the MSQ together isn't really possible. A Realm Reborn, specifically, is the most boring part of the game by far, and you can't really do most of the MSQ content together in any meaningful way. That goes hand in hand with the RPG-first, MMO-second philosophy. The game is much more focused on the story and your Warrior of Light's journey than on creating genuine social experiences. Instead of feeling like a small fish in a huge world full of players, it feels more like you're the main character passing through a world populated by other main characters. At the end of the day, I obviously enjoy something about this game. Otherwise I wouldn't have spent 400+ hours and some money on it. I can see why the game works for some people, but it just didn't work for me, sadly. I just wish i enjoyed the game as much as i enjoy the idea of it.
Do not buy it. It is unacceptable that a multimillion-dollar company completely ignores the Spanish-speaking community. I put 45 hours into this game trying to deal with it, but I had to quit because I got tired of playing uncomfortably. To understand the story and the quests, you have to use a third-party translation software in the background, which completely ruins the immersion and is deeply frustrating. This game could have millions of players in Spain and Latin America, but Square Enix prefers to lose money and turn its back on us because of cold financial logic, assuming we will just settle for English. The worst part is our own community: a passive community that normalizes this disrespect, adapts, and only protests to review-bomb a studio over a minor bug, but swallows everything when we are left stranded without our language.I am done settling. If they do not respect our language, they do not deserve our time or money. Unless you speak perfect English or don't mind using external tools just to play, stay away from this game.
I don't normally like MMOs. But this is very, very different from Runescape or such. Grinding is barely a thing, repeating easymode dungeons is only a thing if you want it to be, and almost all of my hundreds of hours has been spent on just bosses. It's got over a hundred hard 8-minute-long bosses, and they're very very fun.
If you do "Crafting", demons named "Market Board" will try to convince you to "Buy" the "Full Game". This is easily avoided by spending 90% of your gameplay mining pebbles and chopping branches and making rivets and
I swear it gets better after the base game. Just get to Heavensward bro I'm telling you. Yeah I know there's a lot of talking and reading. Yes I know ARR lasts forever. Wait no stop where are you going
Lots and lots of stuff to do. You'll never get bored. I started playing April 2026 and have been enjoying it since. No bad time to start.
Final Fantasy XIV is the one game I have consistently come back to over the years. I started playing in 2019 after trying World of Warcraft, which honestly was not a great experience for me, and FFXIV ended up being exactly what I was looking for. One of the biggest things that stood out to me was the community. For the most part, the player base is welcoming, helpful, and patient, especially with newer players. The Novice Network helped make the game feel less intimidating when I first started, and now that I have played for so long, I find myself wanting to give that same experience back to new players. I enjoy helping them feel welcome, answering questions, and running content with them so they do not feel like they are alone. Since I started playing, the game has improved a lot. A Realm Reborn has had its quest count shortened, the graphics have been upgraded, and on my newer PC the game looks great. I recently got an OLED ultrawide monitor, and FFXIV looks even better on it. The early game does have a lot of reading, which was not always my favorite part, but the later expansions include more voiced cutscenes, and that made a big difference for me. The story itself is amazing. It ties so many things together, builds emotional moments well, and really makes you care about the characters, their conflicts, and their growth. I also love that one character can play every class, job, and crafting or gathering profession. That system goes against the grain compared to a lot of MMOs, and I personally like it so much more than being locked into one role. It can feel overwhelming at times because there are so many choices, but it also gives me freedom. Maybe earlier I wanted to tank, but now I want to play DPS and take on a less stressful role in dungeons or raids. I can still earn XP, progress, and enjoy the game the way I want to in that moment. Glamour is another huge part of the experience. Grinding for outfits, crafting pieces, selling items on the market, and making your character look exactly how you want is genuinely fun. There is a whole side of the game dedicated to expression, collecting, and creativity. There is so much content in FFXIV that even after years of playing, I still have not done everything. That says a lot. I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants a meaningful story, a welcoming community, the chance to make friends, and a structured MMO experience that still gives you freedom. At the end of the day, we are all Warriors of Light.
