Co-op for one
Getting positively surprised by video games is getting more rare each passing day since video games are evolving and there aren't really that many new tricks you can show. Fields XY on the other hand showed that not all games have to be cut out copies of other games. While not everything was original in Fields XY it certainly did surprise me by how fun the gameplay was. Puzzles and platforming? Sign me up! While the idea of making a "two player game for one" isn't that new it's still a rather rare to see executed well. Fields XY combines a classic puzzle elements with platforming and some strategy. You control two different colored squares, red and blue, and navigate through the levels dealing with different kind of hazards and puzzles that will make you scratch your head a time or two. The red square will control like a platformer. You move and jump while avoiding hazards and collecting orbs to open doors while the blue square can move freely through the space and will not be harmed by hazards but it will leave a physical trail behind it that will fill space and thus create platforms or walls to either access new places or block something, like grey spaces which are required for you to open different kinds of doors to reach the end of the level, with each of the squares having their own level exit. You pretty much have two different kinds of games inside one. You may have already guessed where the tough, and fun, part of the game comes. While you need to control both of the squares to complete the level and co-operatively navigate through the level with each of the squares you can mess up the level with a single bad move from the blue square. While you can help the red square reach higher places or get over a hazard you can block its way too. And no, there really is no way to complete the later levels of the game without the help of each other. So while you have the simplier platformer gameplay with the red square you need to calculate your path with the blue square. Remember, one bad move and your level progress will be gone. Fortunately, the levels are rather short so you don't really have to fear of failing a time or two. And what would a puzzle game be without some difficulties. While the gameplay is fun there are a couple of things I need to address. The soundtrack, while being okay, only consists two tracks: menu music and the in-game music. After a couple of levels you will get sick of the soundtrack so you're better off muting the game and play your own music in the background. Also, there are quite some crashes with the level editor as of now. I didn't get the level editor to work at all. When I was trying to save a level the game just simply crashes. So if you are eager on creating levels for the game I'd suggest for you to wait a while until the crashing is fixed. Overall Fields XY is a fine game. It's fun, has pretty nice graphical style which suits the gameplay well and level editor so you can play more levels as soon as people create more of them. It's well worth playing for any puzzle fan.
The game has been unbeatable for at least a year and even though I wrote about it a few times on the discussions page, there is still no response from the dev

Please note I received this game for free, for participating as a tester. Fields XY is a fun puzzle platformer game, currently with 50 levels. You have to control 2 characters in order to reach the end, as you progress this becomes increasingly difficult with some levels taking multiple tries and a lot of concentration to successfully complete. There is also a best score for each level, if you are up for the challenge. Overall I would recommend this as a small and fun game to play every so often.
