One of the best "boomer shooters" on the market. That was incredible. Easily up there with Mullet Madjack for me and that's magnus opus for Boomer Shooters imo. I had an absolute blast. Really hope to see more from the developers. Beautiful story with comedy injected into it as well. Man I love Video games.
OSRC #003 🔎Was bin ich ? 🔎Was biete ich ?
I feel kinda mixed about this game. In one hand, the weapons feel punchy, the action is satisfying and the gunplay is good. But on the other hand, its not a regular shooter, its a time attack roguelite that manages to be extremely repetitive. I played several runs and at first I had some fun. It wasn't doing anything new, but everything felt good enough. The weapons feel great, they sound good, they have a nice kick and most feel effective. With some rare ones (mainly melee and the flamethrower), I liked using most weapons. Visually, the game looks ok. Regular low poly models with low resolution textures akin to a PS1/N64 game. But I think the game plays too safe. It has a bunch of innuendos and adult adjacent imagery, but its all barely above a teen rating. Even the violence is pretty light with no gore, nothing aside some blood particles. There is a lot of underwear and covered breasts. That all the "adult themes" you get. There is a nice variation of enemies, but they all seem to play the same. Some beeline to you and melee, some stay away and shoot one specific gun. The AI is very stupid and more often than not I found it stuck on a corner besides a door without knowing what to do. Now the main problem I have with this game: its not a linear, mission/level based shooter, but a time attack roguelite. You start the run with a weapon you purchased, then run through 5 maps and fight a boss. The first issue was that these maps keep repeating. Out of these 5 maps, 3 were the EXACT same city block, down to the same enemies and item placement. When after I defeated the first boss and went to level 2, the same maps showed up again. There are some different maps now and then, but every run seemed to go the exact same way. You can enable checkpoints by storing your money on machines at the start of every map, but this is only good once. If you die and use the checkpoint, you need to store money in a different one, or you will have to restart the run. Which is how I found out after starting from a checkpoint that put me in the middle of 8 enemies with only the starting pistol and I got immediately juiced like an overripe orange. The "time attack" part comes from an advancing wall, not unlike one from a battle royale game. If it overtakes you, you lose health until you move away or die. This means you have a time limit to finish the levels, you can't explore, you can't backtrack and you can trap yourself on some rooms without secondary routes. The upgrades feel a little limited and unlocking new weapons doesn't helps much if you start with so little ammo. And the character is a bit annoying. She has no personality other than swearing, complaining and going "woah awesome!" at random stuff, her voice doesn't sounds tough, sounds like a teenager posing as a tough guy on the internet. Like a certain fictional character once said: "Swearing doesn't makes you cool." If this was a regular shooter with properly designed and structured levels, I think I have enjoyed it more. But as it is, it feels like a missed opportunity. Also, no one but brazilian people will get the joke in the title. Basically, it would be something like "Sona Bith Samurai"
I was really on the fence about wether this was going to be a positive or negative review because theres a lot to like about the game but ultimately it's just not very fun. Having a handful of maps that you have to go through potentially 20-50+ times per map it gets stale after like the 2-3rd run through the same map with the same enemies.... It also has this whole adult aesthetics but goes to deep into it to not cater to people who doesnt like adult stuff in their games and doesnt go deep enough into it to cater to who the devs should have catered to. It essentially end up catering to no one attempting to cater to everyone.... Overall the game really just feels like an EXTREMELY waterede down version of Nightmare reaper and is ultimately worse in every way.
An addicting roguelike FPS with a vivid artstyle, good sound design, and a ton of collectibles. I come back to it every now and again for a few runs. Lewd enough to where I bought it on my alt account.
This game is the definition of a 7.5 out of 10, but it easily had the potentiality to be a 9. The roguelite elements are well applied to this game as a boomer shooter, but it crosses into hardcore rogueLIKE territory with one damn caveat where you MUST RESTART STAGES. That standard just doesn't match with long and linear boomer shooter style levels. Completed all the areas in chapter one? Good, now replay all those areas if you want to play chapter 2. Did all that and made it to chapter 3? Now replay all the areas in chapters 1 and 2 to play the areas in chapter 3. That's what this game does from start to finish. It has a clear identity issue where it's trying to be both a traditional boomer shooter and a roguelike at the same time, and it simply does not work with these long linear stages. This game needed to stay in the lane of borrowing elements from rogueLITES, which meant keeping the softer gameplay elements of roguelikes, but dropping the hardcore requirement of making players totally reset to level one. Further into the game, the repeated areas do add a pinch of variety, however, it's not nearly enough to warrant replaying these very long stages. They're basically the same exact chapters you already played with a new enemy introduced among to the ones you've already been fighting. It barely feels like it makes a meaningful enough of a difference to excuse the repeating of any of these stages. The above may sound like a deal breaker to many of you, and it's valid if you're in that camp, but I do have to point out that otherwise, this game does have the DNA of an awesome boomer shooter. If it's identity crises with wanting to be a roguelike wasn't holding it back, this would have easily been one of the best indie boomer shooters in the space. In spite of its flaws, this is still an immensely fun game, but it really sucks that every time I have to replay a stage, I'm reminded that there's reluctance attached to my enjoyment. This is a good game that could've been great, if only the dev decided to make more stages instead of padding things out by making players replay the same ones. I'm thumbing this up because I do enjoy it quite a bit, but I've got the patience for it. Lots of other folks understandably won't.
Play with the TV filter on and a controller for the full experience
Look, it might be a borderline gooner game, and it might have several notable flaws (pretty janky, limited upgrades, very repetitive structure) but I had a lot of fun! The core gameply felt very satisfying to me. I've played hundreds of games but this might be the first FPS, and I'm sure it wasn't a perfect representation of the genre but I thought the levels were really well-designed, there were plenty of varied weapons to play with, and I liked finding the secret areas building my collections enough to 100% the whole game. There's also a very detailed world outside the main gameplay loop: I especially loved the cozy house that got bigger every couple acts, and there's quite a few minigames too, all of which are cute but there's definitely a couple duds amongst them. I also thought the fact that enemies in different factions fight each other was a great touch, I love seeing things like that considered in games. I didn't pay much attention to the story as it was happening, but I liked where it wound up. I'd also like to shout out the Steam Deck yet again: this is the first game I've tried out gyro controls with and they work amazing, I don't think they're even designed to be in this game but combined with the back buttons I had a pretty incredible flow of play for a controller.
Its a weird experience, I'll start with that. I play most of my games like this on steamdeck and that works well here. The controls are fine out of the box and the hardware manages to hit the framecap with the game looking sharp. The enemies are pretty distinct and read well on a small screen. The art style plays into that a lot as the bright colors of the enemies and the environments really pop and its easy to tell where you're being shot from. The story is fun so far and you'll find plenty of distractions from it if you like mini games. Its full of details and well designed assets that sell the universe of the game. A lot of it you get to interact with and the levels are full of secret areas to find when you explore a little. There is a great variety of weapons and they can be upgraded and can have alternative fire modes that encourages you to try them all rather than just spending the whole game with your trusty super shotgun. The weapons add some elements to the gameplay too. You have to balance the types of ammo you use most as some enemies only drop shotgun shells or only drop small rounds, or energy rounds but the upgrade system expands on that a bit if you just need more ammo capacity or to be better against armor, etc. my only real complaint is that the levels start to feel repetitive and its a shame because the assets are all there to expand the world and help it feel bigger. And while there is a lot of variety to the enemies it feels a bit off at times, where its not obvious what that new enemy is going to do based on what you see and hear. Sometimes things that look like they will be ranged are melee, or things that look weak are more tanky. Its nit picky, I'll admit, but that's because the rest of it works well together. Its not too complicated to play, it doesn't take itself too seriously, and it runs great on steamdeck. Give it a shot.
