Best retro platformer ever?

Good puzzle platformer. I heard people describe this as a platformer and then a puzzle game, in that order. I can't agree with that. The platforming itself is really excellent. The 2D/3D style really sells it, because you aren't navigating one plane of a 3D world, you're specifically navigating its 2D projection, which allows you to do some things that would be impossible if this was actually a 3D game. This was a lot of fun. The environments and the giant, wacky map you can traverse was a very weird experience, but I suppose a unique one. Some of the simpler puzzles clicked very well for me. I was able to figure out some of the numbering on my own, as well as how the vine-shapes worked. There are some slightly more complicated puzzles, like the thing with the owls, or the bell, that I didn't get. There are also some very deep puzzles, like the password, which I didn't even try at. I think that's fair. It's possible to finish the game without solving most of the puzzles, so they're arguably post-game content, and indeed some of them are only possible with a newgame+ item which I think is pretty weird. Honestly though there are not that many of them. I'd say this is around 70% platformer and 30% puzzle. Also bears mentioning: this game is very hard on the eyes. Most of it is pretty, but quite a few portions need a very serious warning attached to them. A LOT of flashing lights and very aggressive glitch/spin graphics. Keep it in mind.
